  1. I would think [with some patience], you can put a nice little system together for $400 - $500. Might get lucky and snag a pair of Heresy and a little amp. If cosmetics are not a big consideration, it can open the door pretty wide.

my junk stereo.. Sony AVR, R15M's and a sub is not bad for what it is. The R15M are entry level bookshelf speakers. The RB series bookshelf are much better.

I have not any I didn't like but this guy has some good stuff.

has to be good.  The little restaurant that opened for me after hours, in LA, was on BillRd.  I call that a good sign.

I have time to tell a story.

Was driving boy's car to him in NC. Wanted something decent to eat... not macs or.  Turned off somewhere outside of Shreveport and started looking. Didn't see anything, so a stopped at a mechanic's shop [or the like] and asked. Well, I found the place. Empty parking lot. Door locked.  Sitting in the car, ponder my next move when I see a kid poke his face from around the back corner of the building.

    Someone is "home".

I walk around back... Knock on the door. A couple come out and explain that they are closed from lunch and until dinner... I talked them into a plate of leftovers. They set a table [the chairs were on the table for cleaning] and we talked while I ate. Pie and sweet tea to go.  I gave them a sizeable tip. What they did was above and beyond. They could have been making tracks.  They were ready to leave when I showed.

  3. Seems that when I was a kid, 4 kids was about average.

My wife is another story. She has 3 sisters.... But her dad married 4 times and had children with every wife.   I think there are 27, counting halfs and steps.

  4. not going to Canada... but I can visit lots of Canadians.... in Yuma.   Winter visitors/snowbirds.

Was talking to a friend there... Temp dropped to mid 80's. It feels cold.

made the coffee a little on the strong side. I'm not very scientific when it comes to that. Don't weigh the beans, or filter water.  Have a "spice mill" coffee grinder. no real control of the grind.  Judging by the taste... Too much beans, ground too fine. Kinda bitter this AM.

Boy rode in an obstacle course for horses yesterday. Got a 3rd in the novice division.

Novice is an understatement for him. He's got more time under a horse than on one. He's a trained ferrier.  He learned all he knew about horses taking the course.  Never rode until he got the job at the dude ranch. About 6mo now.  He rode a trail horse... One time thru the course as practice.... and they had to drag the horse thru one of the obstacles.   The other contestants' mounts were more accustomed to competition. It was as much a test of animal as rider. I think he did good.

Round 2 today. Hope he doesn't get cocky and hurt himself trying to go [too] fast.

  5. do you tequila affectionados prefer it come from a particular agave?

I see ads stating all blue [better]...  From my understanding  . Blue agave are used commercially because they grow fast... es todo. That quality makes them "best".

    ......... for someone

  7. a column shift would stop any modern car thief.

I enjoy both. Living in the boonies, I don't have to spend a lot of time with a foot on the clutch. In traffic/city, automatic all the way.

I learned a manual on a motorcycle.  Learned to not like manuals driving semi. Stop & go on the 405...ugh

Dang hard to get good Klipsch bookshelf speakers for $100

    ain't easy with $100USD, either

I've been looking.  Best I've seen is a pair of RB-61 II with a small sub [Klipsch] for $200 and I would need to drive 150 miles [one way] to fetch them.

  10. I was about to say it is cold... and then had to look at snow pics.

it's around 45` here. Will get to low 80's. Already warming... sun is up.  Because I live in a cold air drainage, we get a draft in the morning and evening when the air settles/moves. Not bad in the PM... on cool AMs, it is like someone opening the refrigerator door.

Although, I was on a site and chatted with four at the most. Carna and I hit it off immediately, and she quickly shared her world with me. Introduced me to her co-teachers, a lot of her students. She certainly didn't hide anything. I can say that after knowing her for 12 years and having been married for 9.

you can meet some very nice/interesting people on-line.

I didn't marry any of them. I checked too many bad habit boxes... Still keep in contact, though.

i think tomorrow i’ll make my liquor run across the border in Washington State.

You can't get Molson in Canada?

Been up for 2hrs... Ask me why. No frig idea, besides I am awake.

she doesn't know it, but the wife is very happy for me to have "the doghouse".    and a reasonable distance from the house.   It's 5AM... is it too early for/to turn the stereo on/up?   Not around here. Prolly a good thing I haven't upgraded the doghouse system or I would need to move the doghouse further away from the house.

... my SIL bought us a bag of Peruvian beans. Not intentionally. She bought the bag for herself and left it here.... too bad for her. It won't go to waste or get stale.

I feel a trip to Yuma comin' on. Need to visit a friend. She normally winters there.  Medical concerns left her to summer there this year. I think she reversed her sleep schedule for that.  Not much reason to be awake and trying to do things when it's 115`. Not a place I would choose to be in the summer. I bet it is quiet, tho.

  13. back to food

    apple season

I love this time of year.   We can get heirloom varieties.

Not like you folks in IN... Elkhart/Bristol was all about apples until WA. There are orchards where you can get 10 different Russet[?] apples. I'd have to ask my sis...

  14. I still do.... But, I'm too cheap to buy a tree.  I cut/trim our arborvitae and make a Christmas tree bouquet using an old wheel as a stand. My dad would be proud.

    for me

a Christmas tree is just very expensive firewood. And not very good wood, at that

I feel like I should add a "Bah Humbug"

Don't ever be in a Walmart grocery after midnight...

    It's bad enough in daylight

I was gonna suggest an "up-scale" type grocery.    But... anything higher than wally is good.

    fwiw

I met my wife "at the store".
