  1. ...meanwhile, in the hill country of southern AZ, you guys and your gin have me running for my bottle of bourbon.... Was a domestic god yesterday. Cleaned the house, plunged the chimney. It was nasty. Smolderin' creosote is soooooo nice. A friend commented.. Bill, you smell like 3 month old bong water. Made a quick batch of spaghetti sauce. The kid will be around. She expects it.
  2. think I'll stick to sippin' whiskey. this talk of martinis and gin ... I wanna wash my mouth with whiskey to clear the word gin.... y'all made me do it again
  3. Sorry if I go on about mundane stuff ... it pretty quiet around here. so to speak. Get to see lots of military aircraft. DavisMonthan AFB is in Tucson and we are between it and GoldwaterBombingRange. Today's event. Plunge the chimney. oh ... and run laundry. How's that for excitement? the weather is nice. 75. from freezing this AM. the R/H is 5 - 10 % Cat is sitting in my lap ... this is really messed up ... I am petting it just so I can watch it jump when the static discharges ..
  4. I can't say I am totally familiar with how to do the egg thing ... I was just a kid, just remember her putting an egg in. One of those memories.
  5. this place had propane. It went bye bye. All electric. Natural gas isn't available here. that looks like the "coffee" I make for my granddaughter. This is the one that says the speaker isn't working unless she can feel the music. I play a lot of different stuff for her. INXS got her at first. Primal beat, I guess. Her taste is getting a little more sophisticated. She only 3.
  6. Now you're talking my language. The last MrCoffee machine I had, well, It worked OK. But try to pour a cup w/o it dribbling all over. Found a Cuisinart garage saling. It lasted 7 years. We were given a GE that's going TU. It lasted 3 years. Beans .... wife will drink Folgers at work and want a cup of day old and cold good coffee. She sez it doesn't matter to her ... until she has been away from the locally roasted beans, fresh ground. Me ... I'm a coffee snob. I admit it. if you like "cowboy coffee" ... boiled. An electric percolator, with the stem and basket pulled out, works great. It almost boils, then shuts down. My aunt used to make Swedish boiled coffee, with an egg in it to settle the grounds.
  7. I broke my wheelbarrow .... ... and this isn't the first one. don't know y'all well enough to jump into that ....
  8. I was visiting family in IN. My bro-in-law cautioned me about the "hill folk" when I told him I was going to go fishing at Tablerock Lake. I put my bibs on and had a great time. Even got a piece of homemade strawberry/rhubarb pie. that's when is sunk in ... I am hill folk
  9. 60 mile SW of Tucson my wife hates the term ... but we are "hill folk". You prolly guessed by now.
  10. @280 ea, new sounded OK to me. IDK I am trusting y'all to keep me right I would use our burr grinder, but I am not up to hand cranking it at 4AM. I normally use a braun spice mill. It OK, sort of, if you like a mix of grind/s.
  11. no tsunami here, either. Still waiting for this place to be ocean front. Sunny and .... um, seasonably cold. 65` for a high. 80 this weekend.
  12. got me on that song. has a good "hook". those prices are w/i my budget
  13. I take they are not in a highly favored status.. What would be a decent price on a pair of Cornwalls? We are at the very edge of out of my league with them.
  14. was looking at some RB-81 II's. Any thoughts? They are dirt cheap. can a mod cut the excess off this post. I don't know what I did. thnx WillyBob
  15. ...serious you see the ARMY ads where the are using tiny , hand held "drones" .... that's what we, several of us on an R/C forum, were doing. In hindsight, I should have pursued it. the room I am working with is 11 X 25 ... if that matters. The Cornwalls look great. Now, to get some for the right price. thnx again for indulging me
  16. Thnx. Hadn't considered used. I see rebuild threads ... I am not unfamiliar with a soldering iron. Used to play R/C helicopters. Those spend more time on the bench than in the air, while you are learning. I got scared away from that hobby after a "Sorry, wrong number" call from Raytheon
  17. Mornin' all enjoy it ... the end is near we're at about 20`, en route to 60` today. The woodstove is still mighty attractive. Yep, it is our "furnace". We'll burn less than a cord over the season. I have a little money to burn and am in a bit of a quandary. Should I get lower end floorstanders or higher end bookshelf?
  18. I got one you all will appreciate. Granddaughter was over. I play music for her ... at levels grandma wouldn't approve of... rattle stuff off the shelves. Grandma was home and had it turned down to grandma's taste. Kid walks over to the speaker, "Grandpa, this one isn't working"..... someone forgot to turn the heat on. Bluebird skies, light breeze and is topping out at 50`. A cold day in the desert SW... I am cuddled up to the woodstove.
  19. I just swish some "flowers" in my bourbon. My version or "Rock-n-Rye"
  20. Mornin' from what I've been reading here ... it would appear than many [several?] of you are familiar with my old stomping grounds. North central IN. Prolly was MI before they cut a piece off to give IN great lake "frontage" ... My dad worked in the band instrument industry. I've been down here so long, that I am semi-native. Got a bag of Mexican beans, from the roaster. Good stuff. There are a couple varieties I don't care for. One is a specialty bean. Dried with the cherry on. Might be an acquired taste ... reminded me of chicory. And I am not too keen about dark roast, in general. No "weather" yet. Was too warm this AM. Clouds on the western horizon. Looks like it is coming. Our winter precip mirrors SanDiego, if you scale it back a bit.
  21. as a desert rat I have no qualms with saying 60 is cold. For me to move further south, I would be outa the country. That being said, I used to ride in the winter. AM temps, sub freezing... Laying on the tank. One hand on the head .... I gave my bike away. I woulda killed myself on it. And if I didn't, someone else would. It like a lotta things. can say I had a bike. Can say I had a TriumpSpitfire loaded with a 170HP V6 and survived. The Triumph was scary fast. Gave that away, too a little rambling I have just about got the wife talked into closing this place up and wintering in HI. Let this place out to someone from snow country for a few months. Little passed time for mud. But, this isn't syrup from being too long on the stove.
  22. this thread moves right along ... How you all are? hope all in the weather affected areas are safe. Things can be replaced. Yeah, cliche .. but true Went thru Hurricane Iniki while I was on Kauai. MKP, My 80 has 125K. I bought it from a little old lady for $600. Did the cv joints/axles, clutch, brakes, timing belt and water pump. Shop looked at me a little funny when I asked how much to rebuild the CARB. "Ummm, we're gonna have to pull one of the old guys for this". The sheet metal is good. Has some pocks from a freak hail storm. The rubber needs to be replaced. the pic of the cuppu I'm a purist. I would need a cup of coffee to wash that down. I get Peruvian from our roaster... It can be very good. I drink a lot of varietals. I enjoy a good blend, too You see me going for cream and sugar, the coffee is bad. My drink, sippin' whiskey - neat. I spose it would figure that I roll my own cigarettes, too. ...say WillyBob How much coffee have you had this AM?
  23. Very nice If I care to drive to Tucson ... I was thinking that our bar would make a good "tavern head" for the brewery. having a roaster is good enough. It's too bad our baker died. Fresh sour dough. Our "rain event" turned out to be more wind than wet. Wind was flat howling, then suddenly laid down. I turned to wife, "You know what this means, don't you?" "No" "Me either" HaHaHa
  24. 1st step to making good coffee, start with good beans. I'm a bit of a coffee snob. Starbux es no bueno. A little spoiled by having a roaster in town. All we need is a microbrewer and we'd be set. A coffee roaster/shop, a bar, a general store and a post office. Welcome to my town ... ~2000pop, if you include outlying areas. I get out of town once a month or so ... . MKP, You doing a restoration or ? I have an '80 Prelude that I am trying to restore. Working on mechanical first.
  25. thanks for the warm welcome it has been a while since we have seen more than mud spots on the windshield Our "bad" weather is too much good weather. Only one place in the US with better weather ... Hawaii. I lived on Kauai for 8 years.
