  1. Boa12, Yep you got it right how I have things set up that is. What I ment by hi level inputs was just what you thought it was. I should have said speaker level inputs.I am thinking on a receiver upgrade. dougdrake,Yep you got it! And I did pick no to sub in my DVD player setup so all the lows will go to my sub from all channels. I'll try seting my mains to large for the hec of it and see what it sounds like. A big thank you to you both!!! Just one more question so I understand whats been bugging me for some time. Lets say I have a low pass filter a choke if you will. Say that filter is made to filtering out all bass above 100Hz and I was to hook up another filter of the same value in series to the first one could you tell me what effect this would have on the circuit? Then the same set up but with the filters hooked up in parallel what does it do to the circuit ( sound if you will ). I think I will understand much better if I know this. Thanks again! George
  2. boa12, Thanks for the reply! My onkyo is a digital ready reciver with no real bass management other then subwoofer yes-no and volume for the sub out.Mains and rear always full range and sub out is fixed 80Hz It's a sourround sound reciver put out just before 5.1 came out but does have 1.5 multi channel input. My DVD player has a inboard dsp that does all the processing ( I set it up everything to small. The hookup I'm running now is main speakers hooked to the reviver *speakers are large bookshelf that can handle 45 to 50Hz with ease* Sub hooked up with high level in from the reciver speaker out's and low pass on sub set to about 60Hz. I also tryed it with the mains coming off the sub high level out both ways sound good to me hard to decide but think I like full range going to the mains. With this older reciver it's hard to get both music and H/T to sound good. But when I was using the sub out on the reviver it almost sounded like I was halfing the lows from what the dial on the sub was saying they sounded weak, thin and I could not get a good match with what ever I did or adjusted and didn't understand why.George
  3. I was hoping someone could help me understand why the sub just don't sound as good double filtered. Let me give you a idea how I set things up. I had this sub for almost 4 years and it never really sounded good with music and I think this is why. Ok I have a onkyo 545 reciver witch is digital ready with no real bass management other then subwoofer yes-no with a sub-out on the back Onkyo uses 80Hz to this sub out at all times. so with sub out to sub in on the sub I was getting from 80Hz and down to the sub I was told to just turn up the low pass on the sub all the way and it Still never sounded right to me with music. What I would like to know is the technical reason why it don't sound right, because of having the sound pass through two lowpass filters? Yes I did try the Y adaptor to the line input from the sub output on the reciver that gave me a few more db in sound output but with no better sound quality. I don't have line level outputs on this reciver or I would have tryed it too. I finely decided to hook up the sub with the speaker level input on the sub and it sounds much better to me more musical more rounded sound. Why? Thanks George
  4. Ed,Yes I did I only have two spots to realy place the sub. one was a corner and the bass was to slow and hung around to long. There a audio term for that but just can't think of it at the moment. Now I have the sub centered between the two front speakers. I did try (for the heck of it) placing it all around the room even were I would not leave it just to see it it would work better. I didn't. I'm running vintage AVID's 102's now just went over them and set them up. Was running vintage Infinity RSb's. I think the SLP is a bit higher on the AVID's and that lets me run the sub a bit harder But I still get no shake from it. The port length I'm running now is 10" even so it's close to the original 9-7/8. I'll re-do it to exactly 9-7/8 as soon as I get a chance. Yes I had a chance to get one of the newer subs when I got this one a ksw 12 and it looked half the size of this one and was rated in dynamic peek watts not what per channel like the KSW 200 and you right it was much lighter too. For movies it's not bad I can get some real shake but cant seem to get it just right for music. Thanks so much for taking the time to help me out! George
  5. ED, Thanks! Big time. Also how does that sub preform for you with music and H/T 5.1? I had this one for a few years now and still trying to get some kick and shake out of it with music. That's how I messed up the original port length. I changed it so many times over the years to try and get it to sound a little better I forgot what size it was to start with. LOL! Now I know I'm getting old.George
  6. Sorry for the re-posted But posted this on the powered subwoofer board and only got 6 reads so thought this may be a better place to get some help. Could a few of you with the older KSW 200 subwoofers please let me know how long the cardboard part of the port is for that sub for me? Just a tape measure and flash light is all you will need to help me out should take you less then 5 min. I need to reblace the port in mine I have the right size cardboard tube just need to know how long to cut it.Thanks! George PS I called Klipsch and thay could sell me the part but could not tell me how long it needed to be.

  8. Stu Pidass, Wow thank you for all the great info! To tell you the truth I'm a little overwhelmed with all the info. I'm taking it in in slow. Also checked out the url links you sent. Great read and had a look around on that site great place to learn. I'm going to make some changes to our system and see how it sounds. I know I'll have some more questions for you if it's ok with you I'll post them on this board as *ATT Stu Pidass*. I think the thing I realy need to start is that Y adapter to get the 6 db gain. I'm still running from sub out on the receiver to the sub in on the sub I know my receiver uses a 80hz filter. My main speakers go down well to 45 to 50 hz so I set the sub low pass dial to 50kz. Think after doing a little reaing I'll change to the Y and the line in on the sub for the 6db gain. I'll see how that sounds. If I have to I may go and hook up things to speaker level from the receiver to the high level input on the sub.Not sure, what do you think? Hey thanks again for all the great info! George
  9. justin, Thanks but no I don't think it should cost anyone anything to read that review. Thanks George
  10. UPDATE on the AVID's! But first. Thanks for the info guys! Ok finely got a chance to clean them up and go over them to make sure they didn't have shorts or something that may hurt my receiver. Checked out ok the only thing I found wrong was the fusses for the domes were blown so replaced them. They sound great; open, brite, very detailed, forward, lacking some in bass. But that's no biggie with a sub. Anyone else with some more info would be great. Just need to know before I decide to modify or alter them in some way. What got me thinking is the butyl surrounds on the woffers you just don't see that in cheap speakers! If they are of audiophile quality in brand it may be better just to keep them original. What do you all think? Thanks George
  11. Hello, I need some help with setting the Low-pass dial on the back of the KSW-200 subwoofer.Ok the amp I'm using is a Onkyo TX-SV 545 it's a digital ready recever and does not have any bass management other then *sub-yes,no* and I belive on it's sub out it's set at a fixed 80hz. I using the sub out from the reciver to the sub in on the subwoofer. This sub has no life input* My main speakers are large floor models so they can handle base down to 40hz. Do I set the low pass dial to full 120hz with this setup or say 45hz or so? I use this system for 95% music 5%DVD video. Also I did do the put sub where you sit thing to find the best spot and do have a rat Shack SLP meter.I had this sub and setup for about two years and was not happy with the bass output or blend of the sub sound for music but always ran the sub low pass dial from 40hz to 80hz...power level on the sub at 6 or 7 and if I turned it up the music would sound muddy. I never felt any kick or shake with music.I think you all should know where I'm coming from with this setup info any help would be appreciated! Thanks! George
  12. Just found a pair of AVID speakers model 102. There in great shape they have butereal surrounds on the woofers they are a two way design and have 10"woofers and what looks to be a nice dome tweeter, on the back the tag said made in USA inspeceted in 1979 by xx. I know alot of you on this board have been in audio a lot longer then I have been and may have heard of or know about these speakers. Were they good in there time? Were they high end? Would love to hear whatever be it good or bad about them. Thanks for you help! George PS Sorry for the repost but didn't get many reads on the general forum. Thought this would be a more appropriate place to post this question. And yes I do own and love my Klipsch speakers! Thanks Agin! George
