  1. Which is why we must not erase or ignore it’s history and that it’s history is historically accurate.
  2. Mask it........ (some colorful language in this article) https://www.buzzfeed.com/mjs538/face-mask-signs
  3. I drilled into the subject a little deeper. It is interesting. Reportedly blacks kept as chattel by the 5 tribes were treated quite well in relative terms. It was stated that white men acting as agents for the tribes made efforts to educate them on ‘how’ to treat black slaves because they observed that the tribes treated them too nicely. I could not find where any blacks tried to escape their situations but that may have been more geographic than by desire since Oklahoma was frontier at the time. Many blacks assimilated with their tribes and we’re welcomed to do so. In other words it was not the same punishing ‘slavery’ as blacks endured under their white masters. It was not nice, it was forced and their choices were sparse. Worst of all the descendants of these blacks were denied tribal membership in subsequent years. They sued for tribal membership and won. Now they’re entitled to whatever their once native masters get.
  4. No I did not understand that amerindians held blacks in slavery. I did know that black had done so. Slavery was (sadly) more the norm for quite sometime and many cultures practiced enslaving others. What I also found interesting about your link was the commercial enterprises of the amerindians and the relationship of enslaving native Americans and the nexus to the importation and enslavement of Africans. I have read a lot of historic materials and listened to many lectures on these subjects and had not heard about these perspectives.
  5. This is history I did not know........ but it does not surprise me. Very informative. Thanks for posting the link.
  6. Here’s an article discussing the application of gene editing for covid19 testing. Here too is another example of how the feds are expediting covid19 pertinent diagnostics and pharmaceuticals. This is work on a scale that will pay generous dividends in many future applications. So this is the ‘silver lining’ for the awful covid19 mess and it is being delivered by our leadership. https://www.wbur.org/commonhealth/2020/07/10/crispr-coronavirus-covid-19-testing
  7. Well looks like more big changes on the way. The Supreme Court decided to honor the physical boundaries promised to the amerindians relocated to Oklahoma by treaty. Roughly 1/2 of Oklahoma will now be considered Indian reservation and this includes the entire metropolis of Tulsa. As far as I’m concerned it’s about time. If there’s one group of peoples thoroughly plowed by colonial America and the nation of America it has been the indigenous natives. After this ruling there will surely be other suits brought by other tribes whose solemn treaties got somehow vacated. Should be interesting. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-53358330

    So...

Nice to see a pleasant, happy and familiar face. This place misses your finesse.
  9. You are indeed blessed.
  10. Your implication is that people are ‘massed’ together for covid19 testing. That’s not the case. But if you can get tested privately that’s certainly better, maybe...... as long as the doctors waiting room is empty.
  11. IMHO it is not the ‘type’ of social interaction but the ‘variety’ of social interactions that are better discovered earlier in life. Learning about perils, schemers and miscreants are quite necessary to improve ones chances in the real world.
  12. Well I believe this might work on the local levels. There are many areas where covid19 is practically nonexistent and those communities should be able to open their schools with appropriate vigilance. We do know enough about covid19 that we could open some schools. But once community spread is evident..... all bets are off. Of course to know this evidence we need earlier testing in some form. I like the idea of testing effluents for covid19.
  13. This should not be a problem. For any of the samples to be valid they too must not be contaminated. The staff is trained in sterile procedures to get good samples and keep themselves, their work spaces and others free from cross contamination. The ‘sterile’ procedures are foundational, the same procedures used to establish and sustain sterile fields anywhere.
  14. Of course you realize that they’re discussing children whose ‘homes’ are incapable or unwillling to ‘home’ school. So it is ‘not’ a debate about the relative value of home schooling over institutional settings. I’d wager that most kids are getting next to no schooling and I think that all kids need that social interaction. Not sure that I’d put kids back in clustered settings. It is inevitable that a mass contamination event will occur in one of these schools, and it will most likely impact an economically challenged area. The kids will survive, but they’ll infect the adults who would not fair as well.
  15. The debates continue on precisely how covid19 can be transmitted through the air. They’re certain covid19 can be carried in ‘larger’ particulate airborne droplets but now the debate is whether, or not, covid19 can be spread in the much smaller aerosols also expelled with each breath we exhale. If so then covid19 could linger ‘airborne’ for very long periods and the simple masks deemed less effective at their task of baffling expelled materials. Given what we’ve experienced I suspect the answer is not ‘clearly’ definitive. Certainly covid19 is not carried by fine aerosols ‘all’ the time or our predicament would be much worse than it is. But under the right circumstances I’d guess it does occur. This would be where a highly infectious person broadcasts heavily covid19 laden aerosols into a space where highly vulnerable people can inhale multiple breaths of this contaminated aerosol. While it is important to understand every detail possible about covid19 some of this is more academic than not. If these fine aerosols do carry covid19 we also know that they can be killed using UV light scrubbers. In other words we already have an approach for the problem, if it is a problem. Knowing the answer will direct us to install the solutions. https://arstechnica.com/science/2020/07/is-sars-cov-2-airborne-questions-abound-but-heres-what-we-know/

  20. I’d been to the store just prior to reading this article and noted how many ‘elders’ were not masked, etc. But where I live many feel the masks are too much to ask anyway. I found the article intriguing. If you read their comments section you find many responses exactly like yours. Somewhere I read that education levels as a function of mask adherence shows the ‘weak’ minded more inclined to value their ‘freedom’ more than their health. Essentially they’re too dumb to be worried about covid19.
  21. Can the infections be traced? Do these infected people know how/when they got covid19?

  24. My strengths vary from 2.25 for distance up to 4.0 diopters for tight work. The other advantage is that every product that offers magnification will also work. Page loupes and any magnifying type work lamps plus the spectacles gain me clarity no matter what size the project is. I believe also that I am a fiend for visual perfection. I refuse to live w/o clarity and do not want any eye strain in achieving same. And I don’t need to - I just need glasses every where.
