  1. I don't think Klipsch makes a small sub worthy of a Heresy, I honestly don't know if the SPL-110 is worth a damn. I would go with a pair of SVS Micro subs. Or a couple RELs. They make really small subs too. KEF also has a desirable micro sub.

Problem is: a pair of any of the aforementioned subs will get quite expensive really quick. Whatever you get, it needs to be a sealed design. In order to have the speed needed to keep up with Heresys.

they need to be placed close to the wall for a good bass performance , they aren´t designed for a " free in the room" placement. And if they are new ...don´t forget the drivers and chassis needs a " burn In " periode approx. 200 hours

I'm usually a burn-in skeptic but it definitely took some time for me to start really enjoying my CWIVs.

Now rather than was burn-in, brain burn-in or figuring out optimal placement and toe-in angle, I'm not sure.

Maybe it was all of the above.

Thanks for the app tip, Cory.  I just downloaded the app and it’s pretty cool.  Can I record a spectrum sweep in one room that I like and compare to the room that needs help?

Hmm maybe not the way you're thinking but I believe you could do something similar with the camera function of the app. You can record videos with a FR graph overlaid. This may only be in the Pro (paid) version of the app, which I recommend.

Thanks for the comments, Mark.  I’ll play with the placement a bit more.  I wish I had something to measure the frequency output.  I already have and use the Velodyne SMS-1 room correction with a passive sub, but that’s only for the lows.  Today I’ll try the RCA 12AU7 tubes.  I’ve got plenty of tubes to darken sound, just not used to trying to bright it.  Times like this I wish I’d never sold my Cary 300SEI!  That was, by far, the brightest amp I’d owned even comparing to SS.  The only problem is it would not fit inside the slot I have in this rack, so that’s why I’d considered something in SS, and specifically the ATI Class D because I’d heard they were a little brighter than other Class D amps.  If I can tweak the speaker placement as you say, and inch the response a bit more with tubes, risers, and I/C them I’m set.

There's a fantastic iPhone app in the App Store called "Decibel: dB sound level meter" developed by Vlad Polyanski. It does everything, measures SPL and gives a FR graph. It can even tell what instrument is playing in any given recording, and it's damn accurate.

I use this app with the built-in mic on my iPhone with great results, but you can also plug in an external higher end mic if you have one.

I just had a paint correction and ceramic coating applied last weekend. I can't believe how well it turned out. The paint was swirled terribly before the polish. It looks damn near brand new now, very pleased how it turned out.

In October I had a few mods installed and had it tuned on a Dyno. She makes 332hp at the wheels now, which may not sound like much by today's standards, but trust me it's more than enough to get yourself in trouble, in more ways than one!

Nissan rates these cars at 332hp at the crank from the factory, so she's making close to 400hp at the crank now.

Several months ago I purchased a pair of beautiful Cherry Forte IVs to replace my 1986 Forte 1s I had inherited from my father. I also added a set of the lambswool grills and man oh man the combo is stunning. I power these with a Primaluna EVO 400 Integrated amp and to my ears the IVs are a major improvement over my upgraded Forte 1s. The number one thing I notice is the incredible sound stage. It is much larger in width and depth and vocals are much better centered. It makes me feel like the artists are playing live right in front of me in my living room. Bass is deep and very punchy, the midrange is fabulous and the highs are more accurate without being fatiguing. I love my system with the new Forte IVs as my mains. In my mind they are a major improvement and fill my home with incredible music. There isn’t a genre of music that I have heard that doesn’t  sound freaking fantastic with the IVs.

Where does one purchase these lambs wool grills? I’ve recently discovered that I much prefer the sound of my Cornwall IVs with the grills off, it definitely has a more crisp, more lively sound with the grills off, and I’m confident I could discern it blindly.

But damn those grills look amazing on your FIVs!

They aren't all on here, don't associate them. This ain't AVS forum....

Nah the Klipsch Facebook group is the worst offender, in my opinion. Klipsch makes some easily accessible speakers you can buy in big box stores, so it goes without saying a lot of people who don't know what they're doing end up with a bunch of copper drivers in their living room with some very questionable setups and speaker placements lol.

Just scored a minty set of KLF 30s for my brother-in-law.

Need help picking out an integrated amp.

He is not really in to audio gear, but was taken with my Klipsch set up and wanted in.

He would like to keep is simple, 2 channel, Bluetooth, Tone controls, $500.00 budget

My first thought is the Yamaha R-N303, but now that I know what speakers he is getting, I thought some additional opinions would be great.

    Appreciate and suggestions

    Thanks

At that budget I recommend the Topping PA5 and the matching balanced DAC it stacks with. It's impossible to beat at that price.

I have cornwall iv forte iv and klipsch rf-7111 I was able to run all 6 speakers Bridge but not for long after 30 minutes the amp goes off

Dude....stop doing that. Like now. That's a sweet amp but you're using it in a way that it's not intended to be used. It's you wonder you haven't already caused it irreversible damage and hell maybe you have. 2 channel amps are for running.....2 channels.

From my experience in this forum and especially in the Klipsch Facebook groups I'm in: Klipsch owners do some weird sh*t. From stuff like this to people stacking their surround channels on top of their mains, to mounting their center channel on the goddamn ceiling.

Wow, I just bought the same amp myself for the 6000fs. I was a bit worried because the picture is of the 6000a and not the Play. Should receive it in about a week.

How are you liking the pairing with your cornwalls so far?

I love the pairing! It took a few days to really click for me. The first day I spent with it I was ready to box it up and send it back lol. I had to move my speakers just a touch. The 6000f is less fickle than the CWIV, so I suspect you'll plug in and fall in love. Just give it a day or so if it doesn't impress right away.

Also the streaming of the 6000a Play leaves something to be desired. It doesn't support gapless playback (at least for now) and it uses your phone as a go between. I have a PC plugged into my Play via optical so I don't really even use the "Play" functionality. I could have saved some $$ and got the non-Play model. Oh well.

  11. Also: look into the Topping PA5! It has a matching balanced DAC and the pair is less than $600! ASR just measured it and it was the second best measuring amp they've ever measured. Right behind the Benchmark AH2B!

It's a 50wpc Class D amp and it's one of the best measuring amps in the world. I intend to get a stack eventually myself.

Yeah, the money metric is probably not the best limitation.  I wonder if a new SS integrated such as the Yamaha A-S 1200 or something equivalent to that is as much upscaling as the Heresy IV's could benefit from. I am looking at new and not used.

That Yamaha 1200 would likely be fantastic with the Heresy IV. I have to tell you though, I picked up a 50wpc Audiolab 6000a Play for my Cornwall IVs and it's a fantastic pair. This amp has grunt. Though I could have saved $300 and got the non-Play version, and I would suggest you do too. The streaming sounds fantastic, but for whatever reason it uses your phone as a go-between. Plus there's a ridiculous gap between tracks. I mean like 3-5 seconds. So no gapless playback when streaming.

The Audiollab 6000a Play is $1300 and the 6000a is $1000. I was prepared to spend up to $5000 on an integrated amp and it was something I thought about literally all summer. But I was recommended the 6000a Play and I'm glad I was.

Pretty much maintenance free. Just a slightly damp microfiber cloth to wipe off any fingerprints or smudges.

I have no idea of that’s what the Cornwall IV manual says. 🙂

I take my Cornwalls out into the yard and rinse them off with the water hose. Then just let them air dry in the sun. If it leaves any water spots just hit it with a can of spray paint.

You don’t want your Cornwalls to get too spoiled, you know? They need to know struggle in order to convey the emotion in music.

Every once in while I smack my Cornwalls around a little bit and talk crazy to them.

these units will not satisfy all

Most likely the expectation bias club who want to justify their $7000 amps that measure worse than this little China box. "Oh but the soundstage" yes I'm sure all those expensive amps do all the subjective things (that can't be measured) better than this amp. All the subjective things that seem to disappear when doing blind ABX testing.

It matches the E50 perfectly. Here's my rack with the PA3s just waiting for the PA5. As you can see I'm using the DAC in preamp mode and I use it's remote for volume control. I run the amp wide open and it's dead quiet.

So wow the DAC is basically a pre-amp with a remote??? OMG I want this stack so bad now. I literally just spent $1300 on a much larger and undoubtedly worse measuring integrated Audiolab amp....This is so cool and insane to me.

Yes, stereo should not be so simple and cute.  It needs to more Rube Goldberg to sound better.

I honestly do worry that a little stack like this would have an adverse effect on my expectation bias and possibly even not sound as good (in my head) because of it!

That is the coolest little stack I think I've ever seen. So you are the guy who started the "Honey I shrunk the stereo" thread? What kind of power does that PA3 put out? 30wpc? That little rack is awesome too dude. Just imagine a little stack like that powering monster speakers like Khorns or hell even Cornwalls. That is endlessly cool.

Pretty impressive.  What gets me though is their oddball power ratings.  What is this amp rated for from 20 to 20k at reasonable distortion at 8 and 4 ohm?  Not that I'm ready to give up my 460wpc Carver M-1.0t just yet.  lol

From what I understand it’s rated at 50wpc at 8ohms and 80wpc at 4ohms (.08THD) with quite a bit more headroom at 1% distortion. I think it was like 130wpc at 1%THD at 4ohms.

Very impressive stuff for a loudspeaker amp smaller than most headphone amps and even most headphone DACs.

It will go with my Fortes replacing the PA3s amp that I'm already running balanced TRS with an E50 DAC. That will be my first tier system. Second tier is my Heresy IIIs paired with a Sabaj A20 amp and E50 DAC. Third place goes to my beloved old Heresy Is running Sabaj A10 amp and a Khadas Tone Pro 2 DAC. All three systems sound excellent to amazing since I started using the latest stuff from China. I know, I know, let's not go there please.

Hell yeah that’s awesome brother. Is the E50 DAC the one that stacks perfectly with this amp, size wise? That’s an amazing little stack dude. I literally just bought a 50wpc integrated and I’m very tempted to pick up this Topping stack just for the damn novelty. If it had a remote I would absolutely pick it up.

I will continue to be candid .....

Plugging the ports will certainly change the deep bass. I can't imagine that it would improve the deep bass.

    Continuing to be candid ......

I think of much of what you are seeking has little to do with electronics. Unless you are comparing across units that include some real dogs.

I believe what you are seeking (with these speakers) is mostly governed by room geometry  and room placement. The good news is that after some false starts, you have now stumbled upon a better strategy.

    Good luck,

    -Tom

Yeah the way I understood it was that by plugging ports you got less deep bass but more impactful.

But yeah, speaker placement is surely the best way to achieve the desired results.

Am I understanding you correctly that you blocked the port(s)?

I will be candid, if this was given to you as advice ..... then that advice is very suspect.

Yeah I’ve seen it mentioned in a few threads that in some cases you can better better bass response by plugging one bass port on each CWIV. And that was the case with my old amp.  But with my new amp I got better more impactful bass with having them all open.

  21. I pushed my Cornwall IVs even closer to the wall this weekend and got even better bass. The inside corner, the corner closest to the wall, is only 2 inches from the wall now. I also removed the plug from the bass port (aka Cornhole). It’s weird because with my old A/V receiver I got better bass impact with one cornhole plugged on each speaker. With this new Audiolab it sounds best with all cornholes open.

I’m sure I would get better soundstage depth if I pulled the speakers out from the wall but I’m willing to sacrifice depth for this amazing impactful bass I get.

I Just got the shipping notice from Amazon! Should be about ten more days from Shenzhen China.

Awesome brother what speakers will you be pairing with? And which DAC? You do know this PA5 only has balanced TRS connectors, right? So you’ll have to pair it with a balanced DAC and you’ll likely have to use some sort of XLR to TRS adapter, unless your current DAC has balanced TRS out, which I find unlikely haha.

Mine is on the way. It's replacing a Topping PA3s(which btw sounds extremely good) that replaced my Musical Paradise tube amp a few months ago. So far I don't miss the tube amp at all and I thought I liked tubes. Then again I used to like vinyl.

Topping is keeping secrets about the technology involved, I'd really like to see a tear-down.   It'll be a few weeks 'till it arrives and I will give my impressions then.

Are you the one who started the "honey I shrunk the system" thread? Maybe that thread was talking about the PA3. These new breeds of class D amps are changing the entire audiophile landscape. These boutique amp manufacturers making wildly overpriced amps that measure terribly should really be scared.

I just hope Schiit has an answer for this class D craze as I much prefer to buy American when I can. I'm sure they'll be announcing something next year.
