I don't think it makes that much of a difference, big or small. I'm currently playing around with speaker angle trying to find that sweet spot. Do you already have front ATMOS-enabled speakers installed? I sit quite far away from my fronts (13 feet), and so the regular 70 degree angle that Dolby dictated wasn't really providing much "height" affect. I purchased some isolation foam kits to modify the angle of the speakers. So far it's improved the effect of the speakers, and I'm getting a bit better "height" effect, it doesn't sound like sound is coming from a front-height speaker. The more you prop up the speaker the more disperse the sound is on the ceiling though, so I've got a bit of testing to do.

The Dolby guidelines don’t state that they have to be placed on top of the speakers, their 5.1.4 guide states that while you can place them within 3 feet of the surrounds.

I should add, value proposition-wise the R-41s are $500 more than the R-14s are $400. Being an ATMOS speaker I don't know if I'll hear the difference though.

Looking to add a couple of ATMOS speakers to my system. Is there much of a difference between the R-14SA and the R-41SA? This is meant for the 5.1.2 system. My Denon receiver manual recommended I place them on the fronts - any thoughts on placing the ATMOS speakers on the fronts instead of onto of the rears? Any advice would be appreciated!

yeah they were hooked up into the exact same setup, side by side. as consistent as you can get. settings exactly the same. the R120SW just walks away with a richer and more well rounded sound.

I had purchased both to compare... the R120SW sounds a little fuller but everything looks like it's built the same. Just a $100 more expensive for the newer model. I had sent in a support email but haven't heard back yet.

I've seen both on sale for black Friday and Boxing Day sales, the R-120SW going for $500 CAD and the R-12SW going to $400 CAD. Can't find anywhere online that discusses the differences between the two of them. Can anyone shed light on the difference between the two? Is there a technical difference other than the finishing on the cabinets?
