  1. Thanks for your takes on it guys. LOL HornEd. This lack of bass configuration was my only complaint with the Denon-2802. No variable crossover is a pain. (Unless you count the useless 100Hz and 120Hz settings). ------------------ "May your mind be like water and mold to many things." -Bruce Lee
  2. I recently purchased a home theater consisting of Reference 3's all around (2RF3's, 1RC3, 2RS3's), and an SVS PCi25-31 Sub. The system sounds awesomeon home theater with all of the mains set to small and the crossover at 80Hz. But I noticed that in stereo mode for music, SVS lacks a bit of punch when it comes to rock. I then tried setting the Mains to large, and switching on the manual crossover on the SVS. (The Specs on the RF3's are 37Hz to 20KHz, so I set the SVS to about 43). This sounded muchbetter. Anyone else had similar experiences? I'm trying to get some other opinions to maximize performance musically. Thanks. Best horror movie?

C'mon guys, what about Suspiria? (sp) ------------------ "May your mind be like water and mold to many things." -Bruce Lee
  5. I agree with avman. The whole arguement that HD 16:9 programming will be standard by 2006 is a pipe dream. I can see myself buying a 16:9 set in the future, after I see it utilized with more than just DVD's. Also, if I bought one now, who's to say that when HD is standardized (I'm guessing at least another 8 years)there won't be something drastically better out that I'll want to get then. I'm not saying that 16:9's aren't nice, I'm just saying the way I look at it right now, a 4:3 is a better choice for me. ------------------ "May your mind be like water and mold to many things." -Bruce Lee
  6. It is a 4:3, Kain64. I do a lot of gaming, so the 4:3 works great. It looks great for movies too. When we (my girlfriend and I) went looking for TV's, the panasonic out performed all of the direct view sets in the same price range (around 1500) and the same size (32 inch). I definately smoked the Sonys, which seemed to have a warmer, but overall blurrier (harder to see the small details) picture. It features 420p, 720p, and 1080i modes (as most do), and a big feature for me was the 5 sets of inputs (all with composite, 2 with added component, and the remaining 3 with added s-video). ------------------ "May your mind be like water and mold to many things." -Bruce Lee
  7. I received my SVS 25-31pci yesterday. I never could have imagined the impact it would make on my system(pun intended). The first thing I put in was Toy Story, for the Monsters Inc. preview. (Serious clear bass when they are banging on the door and when they burst through). It blows my mind the way the bass seems to be coming from each individual speaker even though they are all X'd over at 80 Hz. A big thanks to HornEd for recommending SVS. I'm totally blown away by it. Then I played Halo in glorious 5.1 for 3 hours. Here's my system. Denon AVR-2802 2 Klipsch RF3II 2 Klipsch RS3II 1 Klipsch RC3II 1 SVS 25-31pci Panasonic 32' HDTV (not sure of the model, but it is silver and styled like WEGA) XBOX PS2 Dreamcast JVC DVD player (single disc, gold) ------------------ "May your mind be like water and mold to many things." -Bruce Lee
  8. Kain, If you're a big gamer, I suggest getting a 4:3 television. I play tons of games (PS2, XBOX, Cube, Dreamcast). Although a lot of games are supporting 16:9 now, games that don't will have to be played with bars on the side (really annoying) or will have to be stretched. Also, although I am really impressed by some of the new rear-projection sets (especially pioneer), IMHO a direct view HDTV will give you the best image in a smaller room. I'm using a Panasonic HD, 32 inch, and it looks terrific (a lot sharper than the trinitron HD's at the same price.) Just some info to chew on. ------------------ "May your mind be like water and mold to many things." -Bruce Lee

    DVD crackling

Thanks, It's good to know that I'm not the only one who has experienced this. ------------------ "May your mind be like water and mold to many things." -Bruce Lee
  10. I have noticed since I set up my new system (Denon 2802, Klipsch RF3II all around) that on some DVD's during certain sections there is a crackling sound. It is usually when there is a lot of midrange activity coming out of the center (a plane engine, or crowd noise, etc...) THe sound is there an any volume, and if I rewind the DVD, it is EXACTLY the same sound, as if it is in the recording. A few DVD's I have noticed this on...(Blood: The last Vampire, Near beginning, big plane taking off::: Almost FAmous, Untitled, In a party scene with a lot of talking). Cound this be the DVD Player (JVC, not sure of model #, but it is gold, and was around 220, single disc), my connections, the Denon, or what. I'm quite convinced it's not the speakers, since it occurs even at low volumes, and it is the same on each viewing. I'm using a coaxial connection to the denon from the DVD player. All opinions appreciated. ------------------ "May your mind be like water and mold to many things." -Bruce Lee
  11. SVS's pci series is great for the money. I just ordered a SVS pci 25-51 for $569.91 shipped. From what I've read, they are just about the ultimate bang for the buck. Very precise, although they are tall. ------------------ "May your mind be like water and mold to many things." -Bruce Lee
  12. Also, thanks for the replies guys. ------------------ "May your mind be like water and mold to many things." -Bruce Lee
  13. Zandern, I don't get a humming sound, but I will tell you that hiss on audio CD's (hiss that is already there) is much more noticable in the quiet parts. I think this has more to do with the crystal-clarity of the RF-3 's than anything else. I did listen for a his with nothing playing, and even then, you have to damn-near crank it to hear anything at all, although if you get up toward 0, you do hear a hiss. NO humming though. ------------------ "May your mind be like water and mold to many things." -Bruce Lee
  14. I have some questions concerning setting up my Denon 2802 with my Klipsch RF3's, RS3's, and RC3, along with a SVS PCi 25-31. First of all.. Large or small, and on which speakers? Second... LFE or LFE+Main for the sub setting (I realize that this depends on the above). Third...Crossover. Yes/No? The Denon offers 80Hz 100Hz and 120Hz settings. I realize that 80 is what I would go with, but it still seems a little high. Don't know though. All opinions will be appreciated. Thanks Dave Blue ------------------ "May your mind be like water and mold to many things." -Bruce Lee
  15. Thanks a lot, I think I'll look into it. You've been really helpful. ------------------ "May your mind be like water and mold to many things." -Bruce Lee
  16. I saw your recommendation to Rocknon about the SVS series sub. I went and checked them out. I'm looking for a sub that will give me precision and accuracy, and I was really wowed by a Velodyne SPL-800 (8') that I heard in an audio store. I want a sub that will perform as well in music as it will in home theater, and these little sealed baddies seemed to fit the bill. I guess my question is, how does the SVS pci series stack up to the Velodyne SPL series, as far as accuracy goes? I have a Denon 2802 with the full reference 3 series. I was just about to purchase the velodyne, but you have me thinking. Thanks. ------------------ "May your mind be like water and mold to many things." -Bruce Lee
  17. Well, I was just working with the same budget. Here's what I came up with. Denon AVR-2802 - $620 shipped (with honored warranty...They'll pay to ship it if it breaks) @ absoluteaudiovideo.com Complete Reference 3 II set - 1450.00 at Ultimate Electronics (authorized dealer) Velodyne SPL-1000 - about $800 shipped (w/ warranty) $2870.00 If you have 3000 you can upgrade the receiver here (or get a different sub. I love the velodyne, very, VERY accurate sub for the money). ------------------ "May your mind be like water and mold to many things." -Bruce Lee

    Hanging RS-3s

Looks like the toggle bolt is a winner. I'll give it a whirl. Thanks for the advice. ------------------ "May your mind be like water and mold to many things." -Bruce Lee
  19. Now that I have decided on where to hang the RS3's, I have another problem. I found that there is no stud where I want to hang them, and hanging them on the nearest stud will impact the sound. I don't feel comfortable hanging a 12 pound speaker on drywall, even with a toggle bolt. Any suggestions? ------------------ "May your mind be like water and mold to many things." -Bruce Lee

  23. I recently purchased a complete Reference Series surround set (RF-3, RS-3, RC-3). I'm having Trouble trying to place my surrounds. I can place them directly on the sides, but due to space constraints, they will actually be about 6 inches in front of the head of the listener. I could put them on the back wall, which is my other option, and that would put them about 15 feet behind the listening position. I am running an Denon AVR-2802 receiver. Suggestions? ------------------ "May your mind be like water and mold to many things." -Bruce Lee
