  1. thanks for all the replys. the truth is that i really don't want to spend that much on this sub because it will never be played that loud so i don't think i need that great of a sub. i'm checking out ebay on maybe getting a good deal on used sub. i found a listing for an rw-8, which seems to be in my budget. the other big problem i have is that i live in canada, and everything i find here is at MRSP. too bad the store that sold me my paradigm pw2200 closed. the only store up here that have klipsch synergy series are the best buys and they are way overpriced ( they only have the sub-10 and selling it at 649.99$ +tax compared to best buy in the states that sell it at 349$ this week). then i have the reference series which a local chain do carry but are overpriced (you don't even wanna know how much i paid for my rb-15s). well, that's my situation, and thanks for all the comments. if you guys have any suggestions on where to get good deals in montreal they are more than welcome. my budget is around 300$CDN but am willing to go up to 400$ for the right sub. it's also tricky when buying from ebay because of the shipping costs and the taxes at the door, so i don't think i can even afford a decent sub.
  2. hi, i am currently looking for a sub for my computer setup. i' ve had the original promedia v2-400 for about 4 years and then i "upgraded" to a GMX 2.1 system but i wasn't really happy with them so i decided to go with real speakers instead of computer speakers. so i moved my home theater receiver (yammy rxv-1200) and bought a pair of rb15. i am very happy with these speakers but i need a sub. i didn't realise how important to me it is until i didn't have one. what do you guys think of the rw-8 to complement my rb-15. the computer is in a smaller room, about 17'x10' and i was really happy with the subs that came with the v2-400 and gmx systems i had. how does this sub compare to those subs? should i be looking for a bigger sub, maybe an rw-10 or a sub-10 from the synergy series instead. it is mainly used for music since during gaming my mind isn't really focused on sound quality. i guess i really need a sub that is musical. thanks.
  3. i bought my cp-1 from thorne electronics and the service wasn't that bad. actually, the cp-1 was delayed about two weeks in the mail and when i phoned them they immediately sent out another one. i actually got the first one in the mail at the same time as the second one.
  4. but how would you connect everything. i always thought i could connect my 4.1s to the back front jacks of the sound card, then i would connect the 2.1s to the center jack of the sound card. isn't this right?
  5. i don't want to get rid of the door because it also acts as a sound barrier. the little noise that the equipment produces can't be heard with the door closed. i'm looking into those fans you suugested and power supplies to go with them. are you talking about the same fans that we put in our computers? don't those have special connectors for use with computer power supplies? where can i go look for stuff like this?
  6. hope you guys can help me with my little problem. i have all my AV equipment in a bookshelf type of thing with a glass front that opens and closes. the back side is open. i keep the glass front closed most of the time especially when the equipment is in use. it gets pretty ho in there. nothing excessive but enough to worry me. are there like little fans i could buy to put in place just to get the air flowing in there. i was thinking of computer fans but i wouldn't know what kind of a power source i would need to get.
  7. yeah, the pw2200 is in that proce range. i got it for 865 after gst and pst. i don't think i got that good a deal though. some guys on this forum have said they got it for less.
  8. i own a yamaha rxv1200 and there is thing on the back that the manual calls a control out. it kinda looks like a mini-plug with +12V written at its right side and 10mA MAX written directly under it. in the manual all it says about it is: "This is a control expansion terminal for commercial use". so what's the story with this thing?
  9. in defense of us canadians, the paradigm website is not as exciting as the klipsch website. the site practically never gets updated, and there is nothing usefull there unless you are in the market of buying new speakers. i have paradigm speakers for my ht yet i spend way more time at the klipsch site. yes, i do have promedias which is the reason i started coming to this site, but this forum is the reason for about 80% of my visits. i enjoy looking at the beautiful reference speakers (planning rf3II for a two channel setup), which make up the other 20%.
  10. how exactly are you planning to connect the two systems to the audigy card?
  11. does anybody know if the monster cables are available in Canada through the canadian distributor. if so can somebody give me their phone number. i had it when i ordered the cp1 a year ago but i think i lost it. also last year the wall brackets were not available, has this changed?
  12. i don't see why you should give up on the rear speakers just because you don't have any room. before i bought stands for the rears i had the same problem. so i kept all speakers in front of me. i put the rears higher than the mains. it doesnt sound weird at all since there are no real surround effects anyways.
  13. yes, all elves are weightless. remember in the first movie when they're walking in the snow and all the characters are buried chest high in snow, and legolas is the only one that's walking on top of the snow. or when arwen wants to be the one to ride frodo to rivendell because she says "she's the faster rider" well that's only because she is weightless. and that's why gimli rides with legolas in the second movie. or else legolas would be way faster than the other two. man this movie is popular. i went to see it last sunday and the theater was sold out. the latest box office figures show that it has made 243 million dollars in its first 17 days in the US alone. it should pass harry potter this weekend which has been out for 50 days.
  14. the second tower is the one in mordor. remember the one with the eye ("reathed in flame") at the top of it. the special effects blunder i was talking about was the one with the hobbits on top of the tree. in some instances it is very obvious, and looks hideous. but it is rare, and the rest of the time it kinda sticks to you and it's all you stare at. i thought the skateboard scene was very well done. you clearly see that the shield is not smoothly sliding down the slope, but since legolas (the elf) is weightless he keeps himself steady. although my favorite scene in the movie is when legolas does the flip thing on the horse after he spots the orcs on the wargs. that was the coolest scene, i thought.
