The 528i was a great choice! Find a good local independant BMW mechanic and they are no more expensive to maintain than a Toyota Corrola. Go to the BMW forum, http://www.bimmerforums.com/, and you will find a wealth of information regarding your 528i as well as good local mechanics in your area (references from other BMW owners). As mustang Guy stated, they are tough as nails. For parts and accessories a good place to start is http://www.bavauto.com/. Once again, good choice and good luck!.

The 288-16H was the last of the Alnico drivers and, like the G, fetches big bucks. Wonderful drivers!
Shawn is right, the 805's would work great. If you're interested, I have some 311-60's that would work as well. Roughly the same size as the 805's. Possibly somewhat smaller.

Yep, they were Dixilanders. Two pair in fact. I'll never forget because the final bid was like $102.00 or so. After all these years I'm still mad about it!!!

A number of years ago I picked up a pair of Gollehon ESL400's (La Scala clones) on the cheap as well. And yes, wood horns too!! Anyway, they came with a pair of 1" Gollehon drivers. If you're willing to pay to for the shipping they are yours.

In my system, the crossover points radically changing has not been an issue. None whatsoever. I'v tried Klipsch Type B and the Thunder Bob passive in a traditional configuration. I've also tried Rane, Ashley and Behringer actives. Each had benefits but not one was "it". Like you, at first I was skeptical of this as well. But hearing (and tweaking) made me a believer. Needless to say it's easy to do and well worth a try. Let your ears be the judge. Who knows, you might be surprised!!

I am doing something slightly different and it has worked very, very well for me. I have tried both active and passive crossovers and each had thier pro's and con's. As a result, I decided to build a prototype and triamp my system using a passive crossover. A Cornwal Type B in fact. In short, here is how I did it....
1. CD out to preamp in
2. Preamp to out to Cornwal Type B crossover in.
3. Type B woofer out to amplifier in
4. Type B squawker out to amplifier in.
5. Type B tweeter out to amplifier in.
6. Woofer amplifier out wired directly to woofer
7. Squawker amplifier out wired directly to sqawker.
8. Tweeter amplifier out wired directly to tweeter.
At first, there was a slight hum. This problem was solved by grounding the Type B crossover back to the preamp. For testing, I spliced one end of el cheapo RCA interconnects and used the center wire (hot-red) for input/output and external wire to ground. I should also note that before doing this I spoke with Crown engineers and gave them the specs for the type B as well as what amp I was using. I was told that there would not be a problem doing this. My mids are driven by tubes therefore I contacted engineers @ Conrad Johnson and they said the same thing as the Crown engineers. Once again, no problem. Anyway, I hooked everything up and the sound was marvelous!! The bass was extremely tight, mids extremely clear. I also noticed that the attact and dynamics were lightning fast. The sound was also very, very open. In short, it was, by far, the best my system had ever sounded.
After running my system in this configuration for a number of months, I then decided to upgrade the stock Type B crossovers to 8 guage inductors, mundorf capacitors and a universal transformer. I also replaced my spliced interconnects with Cardas connectors and silver wire. Once again, this modification was also a giant leap forward. For me, this configuration has given me the best of both worlds as far as triamping is concerned.
Anyway, I just thought I would throw this in.

They look to be in fairly good condition. Of course judging by the picture the grill cloth would definately need to be replaced and probably some refinishing would be required as well. Still, at $800.00 or best offer this appears to be a very good deal. Anyway, here are the specifics....

Belle Klipsch Speakers finished in Oak veneer. Although they sound and perform perfectly, their appearance is only a 5 of 10. There are some chips in the veneer and the grill cloth shows some aging. I bought these from a friend 2 years ago with the intention of re-finsihing them but never got around to it. They have been in my basement virtually unused for this period. As stated, they work perfectly, sound great, and will play very loud with little amplification. I will not ship, but can deliver in the Denver area. Please call 303-805-4097 for more info

Have you ever lived in inner city Memphis? Have you ever had an armed crack head in your house climbing your staircase at 2:20 a.m.???? I think not!! Had it not been for my dog I might not be here typing this. As the guy was running out the door, I called him off. My dog had already chewed him up fairly well. Here is another alternative. Build the Cornwall to spec and use the cabinet as a bass bin. Mount Altec 511B's on top of the cabinet and use a set of Altec drivers as well. Preferably 802-16G's or 902-16's. Mount the K77's on top of the 511's. Easy to do. The type B crossover will work great for this configuration also. This is REALLY a great setup. Especially when powered by quality tube gear.

Get that D28 fixed ASAP. Earlier Martins are notorious for having the standard pick guard "pull". Unfortunatley, what usually happens is a crack will develope between the bridge and the pick guard. Once that happens, you are sh*t out of luck. Yes, you can have it repaired but the crack will always remain. I have three earlier Martins as well and I have replaced the stupid pick guard on each and every one of them. Fortunately I had them replaced before a crack developed. Martin glued the pick guard directly to the wood prior to varnishing and this was a design flaw for obvious reasons. It has since been remedied. Go to an authorized Martin repair shop and have it replaced. Shouldn't be more than $75.00 to $100.00 and it will by no means damage the value or integrity of the guitar.

If you have the opportunity, look into a Hafler 9130 (65 wpc) or 9170 (105 wpc)amp. These are very warm, tube like sounding SS amps and can usually be found for anywhere between $175.00 and $275.00 depending upon condition. IMHO, they sound wonderful with Klipsch. Bigtime bang for the buck!!

Prince had the job of guarding Bryant throughout the series. And he stuck to him like glue. At times you could tell Bryant was frustrated because of this. Prince always in his face that is. Anyway, I thought Prince did a stellar job as well.
