That R-115 punches way above it's rated "70w/ch".  Unless you want some modern conveniences of the Yamaha A-S501, then why part with the Luxman?  I am by no means knocking the Yamaha A-S501 which seems to be pretty nice, built well, and has an onboard DAC.

Another option if you just want more power, just add an outboard amp of say 125w/ch and use the R-115 as a preamp.

Not more power really, just banana plugs and sub out I’d like to have

Why get rid of the luxman? They are special and sound great, imo. I'm running a r117 on RF7i's and love it!

I also have a 115 which gets occasionally rotated into use with a pair of KLF-30s. Again a very pleasant sound that can really wake them up!

Looking for more modern things like a sub out and able to use banana plugs, I’m selling it cheap LOL

I don't know the Luxman (or the Yamaha), but maybe Phil(?) wants something with a DAC or the Luxman is getting tired and a refresh is more than he wants to spend, or something, anything.  He didn't expound on the "why" of it; just wanted to know about the suitability of the Yamaha?

I wanted something a bit more modern with a sub output

Listen before changing anything.  In and of itself, titanium is not necessarily an improvement.

I have a '67 H700 that needed the capacitors replaced and a '68 H700 that didn't.  I have 2 post 1979 HIPs that also are happily running their original paper and foil in oil caps, so don't just blow money for fashion.

    Will do thank you!

  6. Morning all! I currently have a Luxman r115 that I will probably getting rid of soon. My budget is around $300 now and was looking at the Yamaha a-s510 85 wpc. Will that be sufficient power to drive the 20s? Thanks for you help!!

Baffles or MOTOR-BOARDS...are what the woofers are attached to...the motor-boards are glued into the cabinet, and due to the glue used at the time they were made, they may need re-gluing.

Ok great that makes sense thank you and I will def check when I go get them tomorrow.,

I agree that the KLF20 is a great loudspeaker. You need to first check that all four baffles are sound and not loose. Then you need to replace the stock shiny black poly tweeter diaphragm as it is not up to the task, replace it with a set of Bob Crites titanium tweeter diaphragms. Then you will have a god idea of what a KLF20 can do and really it is time to replace the crossover caps as well because they are old and they were cheap to begin with. Bob can help you there also. Save the double shipping cost and purchase the diaphragms and the crossover caps at the same time or sent your networks to Bob he will rebuild them test them and send them back in short order. Now you can enjoy your new KLF20.

Did you mean check the woofers to make sure they are not loose? Not sure what you meant by baffles sorry lol thanks

That is about right on price, if they check out decent enough for you.

It is the KLF series ...legendary.

  10. I have a chance to buy the KF- 20s for $500 black finish. Any thoughts? These seem to be exactly what I'm looking for. I've seen some upgrades tweeters and if anyone can give me what specific parts can be upgraded I would appreciate it. Thanks!!!

  11. Hi All I'm a newbie here and no expert at all. I have the opportunity to purchase a beautiful mint pair of KG4's with no mods done for $200. I have a Luxman 115 amplifier. Is this a good setup and are the speakers as good as I've heard. Any help appreciated. Thank you!!
