  1. I just looked at this transformer and the ideal recommended VA is 180 minimum. It looks like the transformer is only 3.64A and they recommend at least 4A to handle the 1.5A used by each board. You always want headroom.

I have built a few external power supplies for the amp camps in stock chassis and I use Antek's 200VA transformer at 5A with a CapMX supply with CRC in front of it. I have found even more successes with lower noise floor with a Capacitor, CHOKE, Capacitor orientation and I thought that sounded amazing.

If you are interested in a custom PSU build I might have everything needed to build one. But, you would have to re-wire your amp camp power input so you can run them dual mono. This is absolutely the best way to do it and get a very good sound. My current chassis I have on hand is black.

Also, have you completed the mods from Tungstenaudio on your amps?

  2. Jim,

See below from AMB regarding the boards

    • The maximum current limit is determined by the rating of the power transformer, the rectifier diodes (the specified MUR820 devices are rated at 8A), and the AC line fuse.

The transformers in both chassis are only 2.5A. I would have to swap them out with the AS-2220, but unfortunately they would not fit in these smaller Hammond chassis.

I was mainly using these to power preamps, phonos, or dacs.

  3. I built three AMB Sigma ó11 external power supplies and I no longer use them. I had set one up for 5V, one for 12V, and one for 24V.

Shown in the picture is two of the three. Two of them have logos while one has a clean faceplate.

    I used them to:

    - power a Raspberry Pi Hifiberry Dac

    - to run my turntable motor

    - power my builds from DiyAudio (Korg, ACP, Amp Camp Mini)

I am selling them individually for $100 plus shipping. Give me your desired voltage so I can set it correctly; I can only set them up to 24V.

I just recommend confirming your power is DC. Also, the barrel is a 5.5x2.5 where the inside is positive and the outer is negative. Please check the original PSU with a multimeter to confirm this.

  4. I built this amp recently because I had some spare heatsinks, amp, boards, and PSU boards.

This amp is the quietest torroidal amp I have built. It has the upgrades from Tungstenaudio’s recommended schematic changed on the DiyAudio forum, larger 22V 300VA transformer, 70,000uf capacitance, CRCRC filter, CapMX PSU, and heatsinks large enough for the higher voltage.

I have built almost all the DiyAudio amps and this one to me sound better than the F5 or F6 and has just as much power, just doesn’t run as much current into lower impedances.

I am asking $600 plus shipping.

  5. I built this Nelson Pass Amp Camp Mini for fun and used it for a few months, but I am mostly listening to my less efficient speakers so I need to let this go.

6 watts Class A and to me, it sounds almost exactly like an F5 but 1/4 the power. Most Klipsch speakers only need 2-4 watts to get LOUD, so having an amp of this size to show off on your horns is really FUN!

I put this on top of my Pass XA25 and allowed friends to listen to it on my Horned Heil full range speakers and they were shocked to know it was this small amp.

I also have a 24V external PSU I built with an AMB ó11 PSU and it makes the amp sound even better.

I can sell it with a meanwell PSU for $250 total or with the Sigma ó22 PSU for $350.

    please help cover shipping. Thanks!

  6. I just lowered my prices on these items and I am still open to any trades.

Also, I just finished this amp and it looks and sounds fantastic for being built with spare heatsinks from a large Denon surround sound unit and some extra PSU parts I had laying around.

This is a 15 watt Nelson Pass Amp Camp Amp like the amps above but has a larger 300va transformer with 28V per rail instead of the normal 24V. This results in more power and gives the amp a more robust sound.

I had some extra 10,000uf caps on a breadboard and 2 CapMX power supplies so I combined them together to make 60,000uf in power filtering before a nicely designed CapMX power supply.  The amp is one of the quietest I have built because of the added filtering and it runs VERY cool because of the larger heat sinks.

Finally, a really nice scrap of Peruvian Walnut on the face of the amp with a power switch on front AND back (for when you don’t use it for longer period of time).

Asking $600 for it and I’ll ship it for free anywhere in the Cont US.

@Dneu2011Just curious what you might be interested in in the way of trades.  I’m possibly interested in the single amp with the red oak faceplate.

I’m mainly looking for a quality Dac or balanced preamplifier. If you’re local I’ve been trying to get a pair of Klipsch Heresy to restore. Happy to spend my own money if your item costs more.

Feel free to PM me with what you have.

  8. I have a few different revisions of the Amp Camp Amplifier for sale. Some of these I built for friends or family to try out Class A and some I built for fun with some spare heatsinks and parts and enjoyed for awhile. Every amplifier board was built with the same upgrades discussed in the below thread on DiyAudio from Tungstenaudio. The biggest different is the Power Supply configuration I used and I mentioned the differences below.

Great way to enjoy Class A Nelson Pass on a budget! These amps are my favorite on Klipsch and I preferred them over all my tube gear including a Bob Latino VTA 120 I built. I also have a PassDIY M2x with all the populated daughter boards I built as Dual Mono I would consider selling.

Single Amp Camp Amplifier (silver heatsinks):

    - Antek AS-2220 transformer with CapMX power supply

    - 26 Volt Rails

    - Red Oak stained faceplate

    - Approximately 12 watts per channel Class A

    - SOLD

Dual Amp Camp Amplifier (large 4u 400m black chassis):

    - LED lights in picture are NOT as bright as they appear

    - Two Amps built into one large chassis

    - Black Powder Coated Faceplate

    - Two AS-2220 Transformers

    - Capacitor, Resistor, Choke, Capacitor Filtering

    - 24V Rails per channel

    - 54,000uf capacitors per amp board

    - Wired according to Nelson's 1.8 revision

    - 3 way switch for Parallel RCA monoblocks, XLR monoblocks, RCA Bridged Monoblocks, or to run 4 speakers in stereo

    - Approximately 20 watts Class A per channel as monoblocks and 10 watts per channel as stereo (depending on load)

    - Very large amp so shipping will be higher; asking $900 and ill ship for free

All amps were built from used heatsinks or some that I had to cut to size on a bandsaw. Some of the heatsinks have some minor blemishes but it is hardly noticeable!

    Any questions, just ask.
