  1. Looking to change my Type A crossovers to Type AA, so I need 2 x 2uf Sonicap Gen I caps. Shipping to UK. Anyone got a couple of spares lying around they can send my way? Thanks in advance!
  2. Thanks John. I’ll need to get the crossover in front of me to really understand how this works but from what I can see, all I need is another 2uf cap, a .35 mH inductor and a 245 uH inductor. One last question, is there any specific type of inductor I need - air core, iron core etc?
  3. I’m switching beyween two at the minute, a Bluesound Powernode 2i At 60w a channel and a Trilogy VTi, again 60w a channel.
  4. A new, more powerful amp has me thinking about the tweeter protection of the Type AA crossover. Is there a guide on how to change a Type A to a Type AA to protect the K77 tweeter? Thanks
  5. I can get these on eBay at $50 a pair delivered. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/161827860935 These seem like the right one.
  6. On certain tracks I am hearing some funny cracking coming from one of my K77 tweeters and I am assuming they may be in need of new diaphragms. Looking on ebay, there are various different diaphragms available (Electro-Voice, Simply Speakers, generic chinese etc) and ranging in price, can anyone provide guidance on which are acceptable replacements? Obviously, cost is a factor and I am based in the UK, which greatly increases shipping and import costs, but on balance I would like to get the right replacement first time. Thanks.
  7. My initial thought was that they were too close together. The best I can do separation wise is about where they are (5ft), maybe a tad more. Other than that, I could bring them in to the room and toe-in to my hearts content.
  8. Due to the current lockdown I have done a lot of listening to my clone la scala and have been playing with position and toe-in. I don’t have buckets of room to move them around (roughly 5ft apart) but I’m finding the central image is very tight. Sat in my listening position (roughly 12ft away) I can find the central vocal shifting from left to right just by moving my head a few inches left or right. Is anyone else using las scala in a smaller space? Have you experienced this? Any hints or tips?
  9. The horns are very rough and only held in place with a couple of wooden blocks. To be honest, because I have a set K401 on their way (whenever they turn up) I really didn’t take too much care with the construction and finishing of these, however, they seem to be doing the trick. They are certainly allowing me to experience what the la Scala can do and I’m mightily impressed. At some point I may take the time to make a another set that are properly finished.
  10. Spotted that, I may fo that at some point. Like these....
  11. They sound fantastic! First impressions are very detailed, plenty of bottom end for my taste. The braces have done a great job of taming the cabinet resonance which really cleans up the sound. They seems to bring the best out of a well recorded track but as ever, poorly recorded or mastered music sound as bad as ever. A very honest sound.
  12. Its been a short while since I updated here so for anyone that may be following the thread, here is a brief update: I have now installed braces to tame the resonance of the bass cabs and have knocked up a pair of wooden horns to use until the proper ones turn up...... whenever that may be!
  13. Two very rough looking horns.... done! Now I can see what all the fuss is about!
  14. fairly easy, it was just about on the limit though as it did crack in one place but a bit of glue and a clamp sorted that. The original post I read recommended using two layers of 6mm ply or mdf. If I was doing it again I would possibly dampen the mdf a little and try clamping it in place over night so that it takes the shape before glueing snd screwing.
  15. I’m not too sure about a perfect fit! It’ll be pretty close when its done but is only intended as a stop gap until the proper horns turn up. I had some old 9mm MDF lying around which is what I used for the side walls. I found the details online for the dimensions:
  16. I did that, in a very rough manner! Once the glue dries I’ll have another go at making it a little neater. The adapters should be here in the morning so I will at least be able to test one out!
  17. Bought a couple of the adapters and managed to make a flange to attach it..... very rough and ready but it might not sound awful..... has to be better than listening without a horn at all! 😳
  18. So, I’m desperate! My clone la scala are all but finished and I’ve now been waiting 12 weeks for the mid-range horns to arrive. Things being the way they are at the minute I can’t see them arriving anytime soon....... so I made an attempt at a wooden clone but I am struggling with the transition from horn to driver. Here is where I am at: Has Anyone done this? Can you please provide details or pics or guidance how to connect the driver? Thanks.
  19. Hi All, I've been testing my clone la scala while waiting for the mid-horn to turn up and think they definitely need to the cabinet bracing. I thought I read somewhere that the bracing has to be off-set veritcally in order to avoid some kind of unwanted interference with the low frequency signal, is this correct?? and if so, by how much?? For a better bracing effect, I was thinking of doubling up on the braces i.e two pieces of sandwiched 18mm ply cut in to the appropriate wedge, then fixed in place, probably glued and screwed. is this overkill? Thanks.
  20. A little more progress today, cut the back panels and fitted the binding posts. I had to make some alterations to the crossover to accommodate the bi-wire binding posts. Just waiting on the mid-range horns to complete the project!
  21. here is a before and after image..... I think this is right! Before: After:
  22. I realise that this the “easy” way of doing it but if I’ve got bi-wire binding posts why not utilise them and do it properly!? I will take pictures and do a diagram while I’m following Mikes instructions and post them when I’m done. 👍🏻
  23. Thanks Mike, I’m going to have to break this down and work through it bit by bit. I’m a visual learner so will need the crossover in front of me to make sense of this. 👍🏻
  24. Without realising it I have bought bi-wire speaker binding posts for my clone la scala project. Rather than tossing them on a pile of spares and buying another set of normal binding posts can someone tell me whether I can (and how to) connect the bi-wire binding posts to the Type A crossover in a bi-wire configuration? Thanks.
