  1. I haven’t yet, but it may be an easier option than building my own. I did ask the seller about shipping costs but didn’t hear anything back.
  2. Quick update on this, I managed to contact the Klipsch supplier in the UK and they have sold me a pair of K401 horns. Sorted!
  3. Any idea of the shipping cost? Or can you supply dimensions and weight so I can estimate?
  4. hi there, as mentioned I am interested if you can ship to the UK??
  5. That is very kind of you, thanks. I have now decided to go full DIY and make a wood version of the K400, unless a pair of used horns come up at the right price in the meantime.
  6. Hi all, I’ve been on the lookout for a used K-55V driver for my clone la scalas and one has popped up on eBay as spares or repairs. My experience of speaker drivers in general makes me think this could be a fairly easy fix and I was already considering doing a diaphragm replacement on the drives once I had them both. However, my question is - other than the diaphragm, what else could be the issue with the driver? Is a diaphragm replacement a kind of cure all for the K-55? Thanks.
  7. I may be interested in these if you can ship to the UK?
  8. I have the will but it won’t be by the way of Vitavox.....£3,649 each! 😂😂
  9. As per the title, I am looking for a pair of K400 or K401 mid-range horns. Uk shipping required. Anyone that can help out, please get in touch. Thanks in advance.
  10. previous posts suggest Klipsch will not sell parts??
  11. I tried emailing Klipsch about the modern K401 horn to find out costs etc but that was 4 or 5 days ago and I've had no response as yet. The fact that these horns have been in use for so long must be testement to the love that people have for their Klipsch products, as there has only been one pair of used K400 horns for sale on ebay in the last 6 months and they sold for over $270 in the US. I can't wait another 6 months for a pair of K400's to come along, so I need to find an alternative........ or have a go at building my own.
  12. Thank you both. This will be my first build and I was hoping to stay fairly faithful to the original la scala. There are a number of reasons for that, one being that the speakers will take a front and centre position in out living space, so I need them not to be too outlandish. Second, the reason I’m building my own horns is for sensitivity, as I plan to drive them with low power 300B amps, so active crossovers are a no. Surely Klipsch can’t be the only company that makes a 400hz horn that fits the bill? I was looking to build my own Type AA crossovers, so any tweaks needed to accommodate for a different horn should not be too difficult.
  13. I have been surfing the web this afternoon looking for horns for my DIY La Scala project. As I understand it, the original 400hz horns are available from Klipsch, however, a fellow forum member suggested an alternative that is available locally: http://www.paudiothailand.com/uploads/pdf/products/PH-4220.pdf Other than having a cut off frequency of 400Hz, are there any other specifications for the horn that should be met? Thanks.
  14. Hi all, As per the title, has anyone got a single K-55V (push connector) driver they could let go? Shipping to the UK required. Much appreciated. Simon. Just to add, I appreciate that buying from and selling to new members is sometimes concerning, however, if you pop along to the hifiwigwam forum you will see I am a long standing member there with many contributions.
  15. Thanks, Jason. The kappa’s that I have just bought seem to already have a rather thick gasket in place (see image attached) will I need another gasket as well as this?
  16. Quick thread revival with an update..... and further questions. Amazingly, I have just managed to pick up a pair of Eminence Kappa 15C drivers for a bargain £60 and the bonus is that they are only 10 miles away from me! 😎 So, that means this project is now going ahead using the Eminence Kappa 15C Woofers, Klipsch K-77M Tweeters & Klipsch K-55V Mid drivers. Following guidance from various posters, I will be buying or possibly making the Type AA Crossovers. However, will there be any changes required to the stock AA network when using these drivers? Finally, that just leaves the horns. I can see on the crites site that there are two flavours, a 600hz and a 700hz..... why are there two different types and how do I go about selecting the correct one? As with everything else in this project, I would ideally like to purchase the horns locally to save on international shipping and import charges, so an alternative to the crites horn would be good. Thanks in advance!
  17. Thanks all for the feedback on this thread, its great to see so many opinions and get advice from those in the know. I have now committed to using original Klipsch K-55V mid drivers, as one came up on eBay at a reasonable price, so I just need a second K-55V to go with it and ill have a pair!! 😃 That just leaves the woofers. I would love to go with original K33 drivers if they turn up at a reasonable price but have a feeling that may be a long shot. As for the amplifiers, I have Transcendent SE OTL 300B’s, which are rated at only 1.5watts but don’t seem to struggle driving my old Wharfedale speakers that are around 95db sensitivity, so I was hoping that the La Scala, all be it a clone, would work well......
  18. Thanks Randyh! The info is very much appreciated. You’re correct in your response to PrestonTom, used La Scala simply don’t come up for sale over here and to be honest, when they do they are much more expensive than in the US. I believe I can build a set of La scala for a budget of around £700, maybe £800 all told, I certainly couldn’t buy a used set for that, plus I get the pleasure of the project. I have already sourced square K-77M tweeters and will almost certainly go with original K-55 or the PD5VH mids, when funds allow. However, your comment about the Kappa 15 concerns me as the whole reason I wanted to build the La Scala was for the high sensitivity, as I plan to drive them with my 1.5w 300B monoblock amps. This is the reason I want to go with a passive design rather than active.
  19. Hi John and thank you for this concise info, it is much appreciated. I am keeping my eye on ebay listing and hoping a few bargains show up which offset the extra duty charges when importing to the UK, which, when added to international shipping costs is just making most new drivers too expensive. I appreciate the guidance regarding the crossover too. 👍
  20. Evening all! In an effort to keep this project alive I have managed to pick up a pair of original Klipsch K-77 tweeters (the one with square magnets), so I now have one of the 3 drivers I need. Going forward, as funds become available I will likely pick up a pair of original Klipsch K-55 horn drivers. The woofer will likely be locally sourced Eminence Kappa 15 drivers and I plan to either build or buy the Type A crossovers. However, I am aware that there are various versions of the K-55 (M & V) and there are also 4, 8 & 16 ohm versions of the Kappa 15. When using the Type A crossover and the K-77 tweeter, which version of the horn and woofer should I be using?
  21. Hi John! Thanks for the pointer. I like the sound of that, to my mind, simpler is better. If going two way using the DE250 and the Eminence 15C how would I go about choosing the right horn and crossover? In reality here I am looking for suggestions from people in the know, rather than guidance on my choices! As I say, although I am confident on the construction of the cabinets and I’m handy with a soldering iron, I am a little clueless when it comes to the technical detail of the drivers and crossovers, so some very straightforward recommendations would be welcomed i.e use this woofer, this mid and this tweeter with this horn using this crossover....... The only proviso being the availability of the parts in the UK / Europe.
  22. Good Evening all! (where I am anyway) Newbie here...... please be gentle! I have been floating around the forum and reading various threads over the last few weeks and have now formed some solid questions that I am looking for some advice on. I am planning a winter project to build some DIY La Scala II speakers. I have detailed plans and will be using 24mm ply. The practical side of constructing the cabinets I am fairly confident with, but I have been struggling to get my head around the various driver and crossover options. I know this question has been asked before, however, I am based in the UK and I am finding that original driver options are scarecely available or are located in the US, meaning that shipping and import costs will likely kill the project before it has got off the ground! The same goes for the Crites drivers. From reading various threads on here and elsewhere I have noted the following options: Woofer Eminence Kappa 15C - Locally available at £230 a pair Crites CW1526 - Roughly the same price per unit but would need to be imported Mid-Driver Crites A-55G - Costly at £280 a pair and would need to be imported Atlas PD-5VH - Slightly less expensive at £220 a pair but again will need importing Selenium D250-X - These would need to be imported but are substatially cheaper at around £80 a pair Tweeter Crites CT125 - Seem very fairly priced at £130 a pair but again will need importing Are there any other options that I could look at?? Thanks in advance!
