  1. Thank you Chris!

We're seeing a used Xilica can be copped for around the same as the Ashly – appreciate the recommendation. Any other forum members care to comment on Ashly vs Xilica?

As for analog splitters/distribution networks, and dedicated analogue crossover for the MCMs (ours didn't come with a crossover), are there options on that side if we wanted to forgo digital processing?

  2. Hi all,

We're assembling a sound system for (for now) one-off dance-orientated events – consisting of 6 Klipschorns and a pair of Klipsch MCM 1900, not for using all at once but in different combinations depending on the scale of the event and the venue.

Our choice of amp for now is the Lab Gruppen C10:8, with which, for example, we could drive all 6 Klipschorns (or more or fewer), or the MCMs with two channels bridged + up to 4 Klipschorns. We could also pair the MCMs with a dedicated amp and crossover, but wonder if we do that at a later stage.

To complete a basic setup we know we need either an analog dividing network or a DSP (for example, the Ashly 4.8sp), to split into as many channels as we need before going into the amp.

This could get into analog vs digital, preserving purity of signal etc... and we're also looking for a solution that can work for different configurations, as mentioned, at least to get us going. What do y'all recommend?

    Thanks in advance!

  3. Hi all, here comes another desperately rookie question...

A system of two Klipschorns is planned for use in an Ambient music "listening"/performance event, at least for the playing of recorded music (vinyl and hi-quality digital) before a live performance by a guest artist. An amplifier is yet to be defined for this setup.

Is it feasible/desirable for the live performance – our first guest plays sitar and synthesizers – to somehow run through the same system (via a mixing board) as opposed to a separate P.A.? If it is feasible/desirable from an audio standpoint, what amplification and other components (including for seamless transition from DJ to live performer) would be advised?

    Thanks in adv!

  4. Asking this again:

You'll see we have side wings that would have previously had grill cloth attached. They're structurally unsound towards the bottom of the bass cabinet assembly, so we'd assume these could simply come off with no detriment to the sound? Alternatively we could restore the grill cloth even if the top horn is likely to remain open. Any recommendations here?

  6. Greetings all, first post here.

Two pairs of K-Horns have come into the care of a small group of hifi party aficionados.

The oldest of the two pairs, also unmodded since 1968 and cosmetically well worn, is due some renovation. Given the sanding and possible need for the application of new veneers to its wood panels and edges, we expect it will be practical to disassemble the speakers to remove drivers and electronics that might otherwise be subject to vibrations and shocks while the work is taking place.

Do you agree that disassembly is necessary and what advice do you have for successful disassembly and reassembly?

In addition, this particular pair of speakers has the top hat fixed to the bass cabinet (*see speaker pics*), with no 'lid'/top face to the bass cabinet were we to separate them (which we'd like to do so as to raise the top hat with a riser middle extension – *see London Loft pic*).

Any advice on separating top hat and bass cabinet and ensuring the bass cabinet with new lid is engineered so that its bass performance isn't compromised?

    Big thanks in adv!
