  1. I installed the Volti crossovers, Dave A's SMAHL V2 tweeter, and the A-55-G/2 midrange drivers. There is a very nice range of adjustments for this crossover, so I opted to put everything on full blast to start. The La Scalas still sound like La Scalas, but with more detail and air. The bass is better, too. I need to let everything burn in for a few days to hear how everything settles.

So far, this is the best Heart's Dreamboat Annie has ever sounded.

    1. 10AWG copper wire
    2. Dave A's SMAHL V2 tweeters
    3. ALK, or comparable crossovers
    4. Dynamat on the mid horn

Ask around for a modern crossover, as ALK is over booked. These updates made my Heresy I pair come to life in a way I didn't think possible. I'm making similar updates for my vintage La Scalas. This time I'll try the Volti crossovers.

Hi all, I hate to barge in here but yours is the only active discussion re: ALK I could find. I've been trying to contact ALK for months to no avail. The phone doesn't answer, voicemail almost never works and the "contact via email" link is broke on the website. I'd really love to get on the list for a pair of his crossovers for my LaScala's. Does anyone have a working email address for ALK? Thanks.

He's always been very responsive by this email.

How's about PE (Parts Express)? They have gold plated spade terminals with little red/black booties

Careful with what stud size you need. The ones I linked are #6 and work perfect with Klipsch original crossovers in La scala and KHorn. Also work perfct with ALK's stuff too. Don't know about Crites but would assume there good with those also.

Those would be fine. I just wanted pure copper, so I went with Furutech.

hey there.  i'm curious where you got the terminations (spaces, etc.) for your wire -- i've only been able to find cheap zinc ones and am hoping for something better.  thx!

This is what I'm using now for my La Scalas:

  5. Add insulation to the mid horns. Kilmat is what I used. This will take out out the midrange honk completely. The mids will also blend much better with the highs and lows.

Cut some solid wood risers to fit your Chorus. A local carpenter made mine. They look just like the new risers Klipsch uses for the current Forte and Cornwall. The new style risers tightened up the bass very nicely. I was totally surprised at the sonic upgrade; I didn't even know the speakers had resonance issues. I'm pretty sure this is why Klipsch went to this new riser style.

Replace the wiring between the crossovers and drivers. 10AWG pure copper wiring gets more current to the drivers, and that little electron boost gets you a nice rise in presence, volume, and detail across all frequencies. The current production La Scalas use thicker wire, so I borrowed the idea from them.

If you're thinking about the tweeter, get Dave A's SMAHL tweeters for your Chorus. The titanium upgrade for these tweeters is nice, but Dave's tweeter is great.
