  1. Well the Academy has arrived, and all I can say is OMG. Now I know why it is in such demand. It's like all the speakers in the front of the room blend seamlessly together tone wise. Thanks for the offer Bev. Maybe we can work something out. ------------------ My System: Mitsubishi 65908 Yamaha RX-V1 Panasonic DMRE30 DVD RAM Pioneer CLD3080 Chorus II (Main) Academy (Center) Forte' II (Rear) RCA Lineaum(Center Rear/front effects) Yamaha M-80 RCA right/left sub
  2. jwad21 Not trying to be a smart a** or anything, but I was wondering if you don't care for the brightness of a Yamaha receiver, why do you have Klipsch speakers? They are noted for their brightness. The upper end Yamaha receivers have eq's on all channels to adjust the sound to suit your tastes and better match the tone quality of each channel of speakers (assuming that you have different brand speakers for surrounds and mains). I went to the Yamaha/Denon repair center today (I blew up my M-80) (don't ask), and this particular place in Memphis carries both upper end Denon and Yamaha Equipment. I was asking about both as far as build quality. He was telling me that Yamaha build quality was far superior on the lower end equipment, but as you topped the $1,500+ range they both are good. I hope you find the sound you are looking for. 3. What do you primarily watch/listen to, music, movies? Most A/V processors/receivers do one or the other fairly well, unless you spend over a grand, then most do both well. Look for 6.1, which means you will have to rethink your speakers because you will have to add a center rear to the room. Believe it or not that extra speaker really makes a big difference. I prefer Yamaha, I have owned various Yamaha processors for years and have had really good luck with them. My current A/V receiver is a RX-V1, which has all of the above and front effects as well. They were originally about $3000, but you can pick one up on e-bay for around $1000 or less now. It also gives you the option to add external amps for all channels should you want to use tube amps. It all boils down to a matter of taste and how much you are willing to spend. ------------------ My System: Mitsubishi 65908 Yamaha RX-V1 Panasonic DMRE30 DVD RAM Pioneer CLD3080 Chorus II (Main) Academy (Center) Forte' II (Rear) RCA Lineaum(Center Rear/front effects) Yamaha M-80 RCA right/left sub
  4. Klipsch daddy I have an RX-V1 Yamaha, when you set the swfr setting to main on the reciever, you won't get anything out of the sub. I keep mine set on both, that way I really get the boom on the bass, and it doesn't tax the mains as much. As far as the crossover hz, that is a matter of taste, I keep mine around 90. ------------------ My System: Mitsubishi 65908 Yamaha RX-V1 Panasonic DMRE30 DVD RAM Pioneer CLD3080 Chorus II (Main) Academy (Center) Forte' II (Rear) RCA Lineaum(Center Rear/front effects) Yamaha M-80 RCA right/left sub
  5. Thanks erdric, I did the search. I think I know how to effectively screw it up now (just kidding). Will let you know how it comes out.
  6. Well, Justin, that is a good question. The RG6 cables are 75ohm cables, but I don't know if they will produce a better picture than what you have now. You could use the "save by spending" method I use and go get you some RG6 cables and connectors and see, if it doesn't, take 'em back.
  7. If you are good with a soldering gun, making your own cables is better. If you aren't, (or lazy like me) I still would recommend buying pre-made cables (RG6) with the F connectors already on them and just screwing on the F to RCA adapters. If you make your own cables, solder the heck out of the connections when you put a RCA connector on a RG6 cable. Also it is wise to label the 3 cables at both ends (R G while you are at it, we wouldn't want everyones face to be blue A good connection is everything.
  8. Well, I appreciate the vote of confidence. I'm not sure I was taken too bad at $350, I have seen them for much higher. The pictures looked pretty good, and he shipped it Fed Ex 2 day, which isn't bad. Does anyone know what is the best stain product to return it back to it's original black? My goal is to put it back like it's supposed to be, plus my Forte' II's are black as well as the TV. My Chorus II's are walnut oil. Thanks guys.
  9. I have a Panasonic DVD Recorder/Player with component outs and a long run. I used 50' 75ohm, solid copper, deoxgenated coax cables with gold ends, went to Radio Shack and bought gold F to RCA connectors and attached them to each end. It works great. I think you get a better picture depth/accuracy with the component outs. It is connected to a 65" Mitsubishi HDTV that does 480p doubled. All of the cables and connectors were less than 100 bucks. Hope that helps.
  10. I won the E-bay auction.Well, he did send me 3 pics of the speaker...looks pretty good, just not used to seeing a shiney Klipsch speaker...I did buy it to go with my Chorus II fronts and my Forte' II rears. (I am still deciding on what to use for my center rear and front effects) We will see what kind of condition it is in internally when it arrives. Reading this post makes me kinda nervous. I think it will be easy to put back to black because of Klipsch's high cabinet quality.
  11. Thanks Wes...didn't know about audiogon and audioweb, nice sites. Chris
  12. I am looking for an Academy Center Channel speaker, thought you guys might be able to help me out. Walnut or black, but wouldn't scoff at a light oak. I have had a pair of Forte' II's for 11 years (bought them new in 1991) I wouldn't trade them for anything, they are kinda like a family member. I just upgraded my sound processor to a Yamaha RX-V1, and my Optimus center just doesn't cut it....any help would be greatly appreciated.
