  1. So you guys think it is a crime to use just passive radiators in a sub? I found some that would do the trick, but...
  2. So, can you mix series and parallel? Can I run the two woofers in series (12 ohm) and add a tweeter in paralell somehow? I have actually narrowed it down. I re-thought my design and have decided to go with 2 woofers and a tweeter now. They are 6 ohm and 8 ohm now. How will this change it?
  3. I have some plans in mind and want to build two speakers to serve as mains in my upcoming HT. However, these speakers are 6 ohms each, as well as the tweeter is 6.5 ohms. I planned to use tree drivers, one as a rear-firing passive radiator a the other two sharing the midbass/midrange freequencies. And then a tweter on top. So, if I do 6ohm+6ohm+6ohm+6.5ohm, what do I get?! Do I add them? Half them? What? Also, these speakers have their own frequency responses, but they don't have their own crossovers. Do I need to nclude a crossover so that they may work well and sound good? Or will their frequency response take over this?
  4. I have begun the planning stages for building a pair of 2-way speakers for music and movie purposes. I realize that the project may cost more than I might pay for a pair of pre-made speakers, but money isn't a problem here. I am wanting to include a 12" rear firing driver as a passive radiator, two midbass/midrange of 10" and 8", and a tweeter, preferable horn. If it turns out to be a dome tweeter, I can build a horn for it. Now on to the questions. I have an idea of what drivers I want to include, however, all of them are 6 ohm. They are Pioneer drivers and are listed on Parts Express as well as Radio Shack. So, first question. Using three of these 6 ohm drivers and a 6 ohm tweeter, what impedence do I end up with? What kind of amp do I need to power this impedence? I will put links on the bottom to see these drivers. Do you think they are any good? (after seeing them of course) Next part. The 12" frequency response is 23-1500 Hz, 10" 26-2500 Hz, 8" 29-2500 Hz, and tweeter 2000-20000 Hz. Will the speaker response take care of the crossover portion for me? Or do I need to find out a way to make a crossover for them? I know very little about this subject. if I need a crossover, what would you recommend? How would I set it up? Links: 8" 10" 12" Thank you for your help.

    sub drivers

How would a sub made of two Tempest drivers sound in comparison to an SVS?

    sub drivers

Here is a link to info about it. It appears promising. I have looked at these Tempest subs, but where might I find them? Any store carry them?
  7. I posted this, or a variation of this, in the Technical Questions area, but felt it was better suited here, so I am re-posting. I had this very good idea on how to build a monster sub in a dream last night. I have thought it through, and it should work. The only problem holding me back is the choice of drivers. I was in an audio store (car and home) and they had this really huge incredible car subwoofer. I do not really see why not, but is anyone just totally opposed to a car sub in an HT set-up? The Pioneer TS-W384DVC 15" sub has a frequency response down to 15 Hz and would seem to fit my bass needs when paired of course. Two of these should drive the neighbors away! But do you think they would deliver the dynamics I need? Enclosure will be bass relfexed. Secret design, sorry... must see if it works before I make myself look stupi=d here. Also, what would I need to know about a crossover? Should the amp have this control? Thanks guys!
  8. I am looking for about a response to 15 Hz just for fun and a high power handling, but the more sensitive, the better. Does JBL sell their drivers separately.... I am not seeing this here. Do you know where I could find these so I could check out specs?
  9. I found one that might work.... a 15" Pioneer sub with a frequency respnse of 15-1500 Hz, 350 watts RMS, 700 MBO, 91 dB sensitivity. Would this work powered by, say a 400 watt amp? Also, what about crossovers.... how do I get one set for certain levels- like about 150 Hz?
  10. I had a very good idea on how to build a decent sub.... came to me in a dream actually. Anyway, I cannot tell anyone my exact plans on the enclosure type or anything... it's a secret. Though I must tell that it will be bass reflexed via two or three 2" pipe openings. The only problem is I need a speaker. Not just any speaker either. This design is supposed to be the ultimate ever. I need a speaker that can hit below 20 Hz at as high an SPL as possible. Maximum power and cost are no object here. What do you think would be good to use? Would a car audio sub be plausible? Any suggestions are highly appreciated.
  11. I am looking for some floorstanding Klipsch speakers. None in particular, I just would like to have any I could get for, say, less than $200. Is that possible? Does anyone here have any they wish to sell for cheap? This message has been edited by theone on 06-13-2002 at 01:13 PM
