  1. mobile homeless, I follow your replys and value your opinion. In late Sept I intend to upgrade to a Belle Vista Blue Note TT and Shanling CD - a reward for celebrating my 43rd birthday last week by filing for divorce. Now, about the amps for the mids and highs: I thought the Mc30s were supposed to be excellent? Oh, my this is one steep learning curve I'm on! BTH, please give me your opinion on the Belles vs the KLH30. I hooked the Belles up but the CD sounded so bad I couldn't stand it and moved them off to the side. They are also just too wide for for 9 ft wide living room and KLF3s were recommended instead. I was thinking of just moving the Belles to a storage room for the day when I have a real house... Thank You ------------------ HH Scott vintage tube system with 122 preamp,LT110 tuner, pair 240 monoblocks, JVC turntable, Klipsch Heresy I speakers, Harman Kardon dual CD, HK DVD, Klipsch Belles, McIntosh MC30s, McIntosh C20 preamp
  2. Thanks. Who makes a good crossover? If I keep my Belles I will have the same problem although there is some type of crossover installed by Klipsch during a rework I need to investigate it. The Belles are just too wide for narrow living room and I thought the KLF30s would be the next best thing. I intended to power the lows with a Scott LK150 tube amp and the highs with a pair of McIntosh MC30s and a Mc C20 preamp. ------------------ HH Scott vintage tube system with 122 preamp,LT110 tuner, pair 240 monoblocks, JVC turntable, Klipsch Heresy I speakers, Harman Kardon dual CD, HK DVD, Klipsch Belles, McIntosh MC30s, McIntosh C20 preamp
  3. Can the KLF 30s be bi-amped for 2 channel stereo? ------------------ HH Scott vintage tube system with 122 preamp,LT110 tuner, pair 240 monoblocks, JVC turntable, Klipsch Heresy I speakers, Harman Kardon dual CD, HK DVD, Klipsch Belles, McIntosh MC30s, McIntosh C20 preamp
  4. What about the gain on the amps, should I turn them down too? I always turn the volume down but not the gain... ------------------ HH Scott vintage tube system with 122 preamp,LT110 tuner, pair 240 monoblocks, JVC turntable, Klipsch Heresy I speakers, Harman Kardon dual CD, HK DVD, Klipsch Belles, McIntosh MC30s, McIntosh C20 preamp
  5. I'm suspecting the preamp but will hook up the 240s tonight and see for sure. No, I don't want to sell the 240s but I know where there is a pair of 250s from a trusted source. If you're interested contact Mark at soundbug1@cox.net. I saw them last Saturday and they look to be in good condition. He's honest and you can trust him... ------------------ HH Scott vintage tube system with 122 preamp,LT110 tuner, pair 240 monoblocks, JVC turntable, Klipsch Heresy I speakers, Harman Kardon dual CD, HK DVD, Klipsch Belles, McIntosh MC30s, McIntosh C20 preamp
  6. I had my Boston Acoustics VR-M60 (89 sensitivity) when it stated the with Scott 240 amp. I switched to the Belles and at the same time switched the Scott 240s for the McIntosh MC30 (I was troubleshooting my McIntosh C20 preamp, which I had never heard because I just got the MC 30s Saturday). I took the Belles out of the system and stacked them off to the side (man those guys are hard to stack by yourself)and now I can still hear it with the Boston Acoustics VR-M60. It does not seem to matter if its the tuner, extra (CD), or phono. Errrrr ------------------ HH Scott vintage tube system with 122 preamp,LT110 tuner, pair 240 monoblocks, JVC turntable, Klipsch Heresy I speakers, Harman Kardon dual CD, HK DVD, Klipsch Belles, McIntosh MC30s, McIntosh C20 preamp
  7. I just got my pre-listened Belles and I can now say that all the advice you all gave me on my previous post was great. First, my sources suck and it's painfull to hear them esp the HK CD. Second, my room is way to narrow. If I put them at the long end (which is narrow) there is about one speaker width between them. If I were to reposition them to the wide side, I would have to raise them up somehow about 4 ft just to have a place to put them. I'm moving to a bigger apt in mid-Oct and I am thinking about moth balling them until then. Now for the question. I now hear a popping whenever I turn off my preamp or amps. The Klipsch help center said its not the speakers (which I knew) so I was hoping maybe some of you all might know what it is; I suspect my preamp (Scott 122). The amps as McIntosh MC 30 but it was happening with the left channel of my Scott 240 amp also before I switched out the amps. The stereo phase of my phone input also went belly up and now will only play in mono. I think it might just be I cratered my preamp. Thanks for all your help. ------------------ HH Scott vintage tube system with 122 preamp,LT110 tuner, pair 240 monoblocks, JVC turntable, Klipsch Heresy I speakers, Harman Kardon dual CD, HK DVD, Klipsch Belles, McIntosh MC30s, McIntosh C20 preamp
  8. Keep it up, I'm gonna learn yet. HIGHER quality amps? I thought the MC30s were way up there...I'm very open to upgrading sources but don't know where to start. I have a line on a Micro Seiki 3000 TT that looks pretty good. I had a MS in an earlier life and loved it. Due to budget everything I buy needs to be "pre listened". The sub question is still open and my sub is POLK (their top). Thanks for your help! ------------------ HH Scott vintage tube system with 122 preamp,LT110 tuner, pair 240 monoblocks, JVC turntable, Klipsch Heresy I speakers, Harman Kardon dual CD, HK DVD, Klipsch Belles, McIntosh MC30s, McIntosh C20 preamp
  9. Ok, no more wacky stuff. How about bi-amping the Belles? Reason being I am in the process of acquiring a second pair of MC30s... ------------------ HH Scott vintage tube system with 122 preamp,310 E tuner, pair 240 monoblocks, JVC turntable, Klipsch Heresy I speakers, Harman Kardon dual CD
  10. I've been watching all the posts about the Belles low end response (or lack of) and will be purchasing my first set this Saturday. The low end freqency is important to me due to the music I listen to (tango, lots of violins, stand up base). One friend has recommened a solution which (in brief) involves running the center channel output from my preamp to another amp and then out to two speakers which have the tweaters removed. (I left out alot of his message)...So I have this pair of Klipsch KG 3.5 which a frequency response of around 36 compared to the Belles 54. So I was thinking, hm I'll just disconnect the tweater from this pair and use them. BUT, I though you guys could (please) set me straight. ------------------ HH Scott vintage tube system with 122 preamp,310 E tuner, pair 240 monoblocks, JVC turntable, Klipsch Heresy I speakers, Harman Kardon dual CD
  11. Ok, prepare myself to get crucified. I heard a pair of ML at about 4K with a 200 (or was it 300?) watt per channel McIntosh. The saleskid put in a Muddy Waters cd from the 40s. Man, I thought the he had risen from the 5th Ward and come in to speak to me. I was stunned. I bought Belles and a pair of 30 watt monoblocks instead. My whole system cost less than that pair of ML. I also noticed that I can turn up the KHORNS REALLY LOUD and wife doesn't start looking for her castration shears (she's a country gal). Oh well, anybody reading this post already know that KHORNS rule. My buddy has a pair of Electostats that sound great and yea he has a big SS amp and listens to Metalica at 911 volumns... ------------------ HH Scott vintage tube system with 122 preamp,310 E tuner, pair 240 monoblocks, JVC turntable, Klipsch Heresy I speakers, Harman Kardon dual CD
  12. Ok, my 2 cents as a novice. I have a McIntosh C20 (couldn't afford either the C22 original or reissue) and HH Scott 122. The Scott is a little hotter...no not warmer than the Mc but its about 1/2 the price. It is a very quality unit but if you go Scott look for the 130. I read all the posts and they are all great stuff. My recommendations is to start with your budget and work backwards... ------------------ HH Scott vintage tube system with 122 preamp,310 E tuner, pair 240 monoblocks, JVC turntable, Klipsch Heresy I speakers, Harman Kardon dual CD
  13. Ok, now I'm really confused. I'm upgrading this weekend from my (1) Heresy I and (2) Boston Acoustics VR-M60 no I didn't know what I was doing and can't get my money back to: HH Scott (tubes) preamp 122 and HH Scott 240 monoblocks with Belles to replace the Heresy or BA. Now I'm hearing the base thing. I listen to jazz, blues, and tango (very bass heavy...multiple violins, bandoneon, stand up bass, piano). I also have a McIntosh C20 tube preamp and a pair of MC30s which I have not hooked up yet (amps are in the mail). So, what is going to happen to me on the base? Any recommendations on using the Scott vs the McIntosh? And finally, the current owner of the Belles have them sitting on some kind of sand filled box to raise the base to ear level and reduce vibration. Any comments? Also my living room is about 10' X 20 '... ------------------ HH Scott vintage tube system with 122 preamp,310 E tuner, pair 240 monoblocks, JVC turntable, Klipsch Heresy I speakers, Harman Kardon dual CD
  14. This same guy sold me a HH Scott 299B that was "in working order". When I fired it up it lit up a tube like a lightening bolt and fried a fuses. I posted another item on this earlier. What gives? Note the side sticker says 12-Aug-1953 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1368613949&rd=1 ------------------ HH Scott vintage tube system with 122 preamp,310 E tuner, pair 240 monoblocks, JVC turntable, Klipsch Heresy I speakers, Harman Kardon dual CD This message has been edited by tangero on 07-24-2002 at 12:07 PM
  15. First rule of KHORNS OBYWAN, use tubes! Since you're not into tubes, those KHORNS need a new home, me! ------------------ HH Scott vintage tube system with 122 preamp,310 E tuner, pair 240 monoblocks, JVC turntable, Klipsch Heresy I speakers, Harman Kardon dual CD
