  1. This seems solved fellas. Bob said he wants people to order the gaskets as an add-on but if you order them by themselves he wants to sell 10 or more. so I figured that there may be several of you with extra gaskets laying around going to waste and I wanted to see that maybe a couple of them went to good use. Thanks all, 👍!
  2. This exactly. I'll message you. Thank you!
  3. Agreed. I have paper gasket material in the garage.
  4. Ok guys, does anybody know the material and thickness?
  5. Crite's page says he hopes people will order them as an add on and I won't be ordering anything else at the moment. Does anybody have extras laying around? If not and they are just rubber.. how thick are they and what is the ID and OD. I could likely just make a pair. Thanks, Brad
  6. Well I picked up a receiver this weekend and had a little adventure. Check it out. https://imgur.com/gallery/LYfJCnd
  7. Killer! I like the idea of using magnets for the grilles. After removing the Velcro from the cabs, what did you use to refinish the black? I doubt I will get this far into mine. I plan on at minimum, replacing caps w Crites, sealing the cabs, installing new horn to driver gaskets, and putting in access panel gasket. But first, I want to listen to them for just a little bit so that I will be able to really hear any improvement. Also, I'm having a buddy who does carpentry make me a set of slant risers from walnut ply. I plan to oil them and am hoping they will be a close enough match. He says he will have em done by next week. 🤞
  8. Awesome! So what I'm learning is that it's worth waiting to find a restored/recapped machine. I'm all over Hifishark.com and USAaudiomart.com today. Are there any other good sites to take a look at? I'm ready to pull the trigger on something when I find something I like. I'm looking for something that's in very good to mint condition that's been restored and has a bit of wow factor when you turn it on(LED's and whatnot). 😉
  9. Just came across this.. $450 CAD translates to roughly $320 USD. I like the look of the 730 more though.. https://www.usaudiomart.com/details/649615052-harmon-kardon-930-high-end-receiver-made-in-japan/images/2688113/ What kind of wattage do the I's like best? I don't want to be able to hurt them. I'm seeing Heresy I specs at 100W continuous/400W peak.
  10. I wrote a whole response to several things earlier but I guess I never hit "Submit Reply." Shoot. I was thinking I'd go with a Marantz or maybe a Sansui. I have now seen the Harmon Kardons recommended several times with Heresies, is there a reason behind that are are they just generally great receivers? What should I expect to pay for a restored HK 730? I'm assuming this is a bit high? Seems it had EVERYTHING fixed up. https://reverb.com/item/15018296-fully-restored-harman-kardon-730-stereo-receiver-dual-power-supply-design-great-looks-and-sound Is there a go-to person here on the forums that restores the HK's? I know a guy here in town but he deals almost exclusively in Marantz. I'm open to other ideas about receivers to pair with the Heresies, are there any other popular pairings? Here's some more pictures. https://imgur.com/gallery/KIOWF7K
  11. They look plenty good Hpower. I'm about to start on the 2nd cab and I just took these pics. The difference when they are side by side is astonishing.
  12. This is what I have. https://www.homedepot.com/p/RYOBI-2-6-Amp-Corded-5-in-Random-Orbital-Sander-RS290G/205105594 I found that the faster I moved the sander, the more material it removed. For the most part I just let the weight of the sander do the work and I just guided it back and forth.
  13. Wow, that is a sharp looking setup Rick! I looked around alot and I liked the look of the Linseed oil more than what I was seeing from Watco. All of your recommendations are exactly what I'm interested in. Several questions.. 1. Where do I get the foam seal for the back panel? Can you link to or name a product to look for? 2. Where do I find the new gasket for the mid driver? Link me? Does it go between the driver and the horn or between the horn and the cabinet? 3. What are my search terms to find a new banana plug style input panel to put in the back panel? Link or search terms? Are there replacements that drop right in? EDIT: just saw your link to the plugs. So I'm guessing a guy would drill a hole for each one of those and run wires from old spade connectors to the banana plugs so that either may be used? 4. Does the visual condition of the caps have any reflection on their working condition? Mine look basically brand new still. That light colored cloth would sure pop with the new finish of the cabs.... Excellent advice! I appreciate it. Also, I am building an all new system with these so I am in the market for a receiver. Suggestions welcome but I'd like to stay under the 4-500 dollar mark for now and maybe upgrade in a year or so.
  14. I have been eyeing these aluminum replicas. The price makes them pretty interesting.. ugh. I want to put the real ones on them but at 5 to 6x the price of these.. I think I'll wait till I'm done with the woodwork to make my decision.
  15. I got a response on my WTB ad about the badges. So the 1979's came with the laser etched style badges? Here is what is being offered. It is to my understanding that these are in decent condition for their age, but is there a common way to get these badges looking new again?
  16. I hauled one of the Heresy's down to the garage this afternoon and got to work. I went ahead an bought a Ryobi DA sander and some 220 pads. The Ryobi came with 3 pads of its own, 80, 150, and 220 grit and I'm glad it did because I ended up using the 150 pad. The tops are by far the worst on both cabinets and I needed more than the 220 to get the several water marks out of the first one. The other cabinet has two rings on it, so that will be interesting. There is one discolored area on this one that you can still see even after sanding. After working it for several minutes with the 150, I decided to call it quits. I sure didn't want to overdo it. It still looks heaps better than it did before. I finished the top off with 220. The rest of the cabinet only needed the 220 grit to clean up. After sanding, I wiped everything down with acetone and made sure they were dust free, then I put on the first coat of oil. I am beyond pleased with the results and I can't wait to see what several more coats will do. Take a look: https://imgur.com/gallery/K08mptV Tomorrow I'm starting in on the other one.
  17. Thanks for your response Gary. I bought a DA last night and some 220 grit pads. The speed advice and each defect at a time advice is gladly heard, thank you! I spent the last half of my evening watching lots of videos about proper DA sanding and boiled linseed application videos. I learned alot and I feel like I am ready to move forward. Boy, you aren't kidding about the fire hazard associated with boiled linseed oil. The rags DEFINITELY WILL spontaneously combust if given the right settings. Here is a great video on just that. 😲
  18. Long shot on a dead thread but any chance you still have them?
  19. I just acquired my first set of Heresy's and they are both missing the badges. I would prefer to source authentic replacements rather than using the aluminum Fleabay ones.
