  1. I have a set of forte II's that I just restored. They had the most beat up boxes i have ever seen on speakers, but I got them looking mint and I painted them black. I got new emblems for them, also installed some titanium diaphragms for the tweeters because one was blown. I can recap them myself/rebuild the crossover. I am just wondering how much of an effect it will have to use good stuff (from crites or equivalent). I am assuming the speakers had a bit of abuse as their housings were destroyed and a tweeter was blown. Not sure exactly how old they are.
  2. I have a set of Klipsch Forte II's /w upgraded titanium tweeters, Klipsch Sub-10, yamaha rx-v663, optical out off my macbook. I was thinking about adding some small satellites to make it a 5.1 setup for movies. I got ahold of some extra promedia 5.1 ultra satellites. (i am planning on a 5.1 setup, but 7.1 is possible). Will they work fine off of my receiver and how well will these different kinds of speakers match up? Any input? What height should I mount my rear surrounds at? I want them a bit elevated. Probably going to be listening sitting on my bed, which is in the middle of the room.
  3. I am a huge klipsch fan. Love my 2 promedia sets and forte ii's. We put em in our family room. Running on an onkyosr606 receiver w/ a sub-10 for bass. They are wall mounted and have some "premium" wire the home installers used (however I am a bit skeptical as it looks a little on the thin side (only issue I can see is the wire). I am just really unimpressed with these speakers. Ive tried a complete break in, used multiple sources (cd player, digital out from macbook, cable, radio, etc) They sind kinda flimsy like some cheap computer speakers you get for free with a dell or gateway if you catch my drift. They sound like the housing is really affecting them. Also they dont seem to have any midbass. I feel like the promedia satellites sound way better. Any ideas on making these guys sound better?
  4. Blown 5.1ultra midbass driver in satellite, where to get replacement? I think the tweater might be shot too.
  5. I would like to wall mount my center speaker for the klipsch quintet. Where can I get a good kit to do this?
  6. Basically, we are doing our home theater and we want to stealth all the wires in the wall, i already did the speakers but we are having a guy come to run the tv wires. In the corner of the room we have our receiver, dvd player, cable box, etc. and We have the tv in the middle. Since the guy is coming, what exactly should i have him put through the wall. I am thinking two hdmi cables (from the corner to the tv) would work. Is there anything else i should have him do while he is here? There is already an ethernet port behind the tv as well as power/cable.
  7. I have some forte's and a sub-10. I want to add a center and surround channels to make a 5.1 setup. What are some decent speakers that will work well with this. I would like some smaller speakers that can be wall mounted for the rear ones.
  8. Ok i opened em up, loose connection on the midwoofer. It looked like the tweeter is bad on one of em though. Its got infinite resistance and doesnt work in either one. I am guessing the diaphragm needs to be replaced. Where can I get a new one?
  9. I got a pair or heavily used and abused forte ii's. I think i want to restore em by refinishing the cabinet. I noticed the midwoofer on one of them doesnt seem to work and the tweater on the other isn't responding. How do i figure out if this is a cross over or driver problem and where can I get replacements? Also any good way to pull out a dust cap? one of the passive ones is pushed in.
  10. I have used an ipod, macbook pro, and samsung dvd player as sound input. I tried the auddessey auto setup and it sounds better wiht default settings and just the mids cut a bit but still lacking.
  11. We got the Quintet 3, onkyo sr606 and a sub 10. It seems that this system is really lacking on the midrange and I can't figure it out. The sound coming from them doesn't sound musical and is very artificial. It is hard to describe but I think that should give a good idea. They sound very bright which I hear is normal and doesnt bother me. I cut the highs a little bit in the equalizerand it seems to sound a little better to me. But no matter what I do they are really lacking in mids. I have a promedia system on my computer and i prefer listening to that over em because of this and I would believe that the quintets should be equivalent or better in these aspects. Any tips on tweaking the bass, I am having a hard time finding a place where it bumps but the sub doesnt just overpower everything. I have the sub on LFE and ive tried receiver crossovers ranging from 100-120 hz.
  12. One of my satellites is having a strange problem. It's hard to describe but at certain frequencies you hear a vibration inside. Like somethings loose. It produces sound just fine and i can't fix it my changing the wire, channel, etc so its the satellite. What could be going on, the cone looks perfect and no holes in it. Other than that i dont see anything else.
  13. I am also into the hard kick to the sternum without the ear bleed. Which is what I am looking for.
  14. I want to get the most out of some forte's, what do i need to look for in a receiver to make sure it makes enough power to get these things to their max? I am very confused by the ratings.
  15. Well apparantly it isnt blown, did the 9 volt trick and both drivers popped. Just need to get a receiver for em. I located the other one, its in a friends room (livin in a frat house) daisy chained with a bose system I need to find a way into talking him into letting me have that one. Any ideas on that one? hahaha
  16. Well that's what I got, didnt know the back one's passive. Ill pull em apart and see whats going on.
  17. I found one of my old fortes and sadly it appears to have no resistance through the speaker. It appears to have two speakers on it. Is there anywhere to get replacement drivers or anything? I am gonna pull it apart and see if its just one or both speakers blown.
  18. I think that makes sense, a seperate subwoofer. What do you guys recommend I look out for to be as cheap as possible. I will eventually upgrade when I have more cash and want to do a full out home theater back home. When I can do it right. I gotta look around for forte prices and stuff, anything else I should look at it to keep costs down?
  19. I have a klipsch 4.1 setup been using for the longest time. I want to have more, deeper bass and a little more loudness. How does the 5.1 compare to the 4.1? I realize it has more power and bigger subs. Is it quite a big difference?
  20. I have been listening to music on my klipsch promedia 4.1's for like 8 years. They just don't get loud enough for parties at my place. I have been running them 2.1 lately as I didnt feel like running wire in current room. I want to get 2 big floor standing speakers. I am a bass head and want loud deep bass like the stuff you hear at clubs or concert halls. What can you recommend for my setup. I hooked my parents up with a quintet setup and a sub-12 and it is close to what I want but I have no need for a 5.1 system. What do you suggest I look into as far as these likes. I had some klipsch forte ii's for a little while and they were awesome loudness wise but still didnt have that deep loud bass I was looking for. I would like to try to pic up an older set to be honest used preferrably and on a budget. I am a klipsch fan and pretty brand loyal.
  21. i bought a mod chip once from a canadian company. It got held at the border for months and i got calls and stuff, very inconvenient, don't want to go through that stuff anymore. plus the exhange rate issues and stuff.
  22. My cp-1 is going down the drain, it is sooo distorted when changing volume and i keep losing channels. Ik it is the preamp/control thing because my friend has a 4.1 and we tried his preamp and it eliminates the problem. I just called klipsch and they said they sold their last one monday. Where can i get one from? Does anyone have a used one that works well that they want to sell or soemthing? Only place i can find it is here: http://www.microncanada.ca/gpage1.html I would not like to buy from a canadian company because ive had trouble in the past, my items got held at the border for months. Please help.
  23. Ok so the decision has been made. We aren't going to flush mount our speakers, so now lets say we got 1000-2000$ to work with. Give me a good recommendation on an awesome setup with sub, and receiver. Can you guys lean me towards a 5.1 or 7.1 system? I am not too familiar with 7.1 but if it is going to be the norm anytime soon, might as well go to it.
  24. So, my family is in the process of moving. I am away at college but I do go home from time to time. We had a meeting with our structured wiring guy. We are gettin the works with wired stuff. So, onto the Home theatre. The structured wire guy is trying to get us to go with a 4.1 Klipsch r3650w setup with a rw12d subwoofer. I am not sure, maybe he is planning a 5.1, will have to find out. He is charging 2400$ for the speakers, sub, to flush mount the speakers in the wall, and to do wiring. I am familiar with klipsch products and I do know they are some of the best. I havent had time to do research on home theatre lately. Do you think we should take this offer or should I just do the wiring myself and get better speakers for the money (if these aren't that good), I probably wont be able to mount the speakers in the wall myself but i was never a fan of that anyways. I was going to use klipsch speakers anyways but I dont know much about their HT speakers, I have been into their Computer speakers for the most part. I want this setup to sound awesome, to pound, and not get outdated. At our current house: We have a 56'' standard tv, tons of decks and capability to play dvds, video, games, laserdiscs, radio, casettes, cds, etc. We had a fancy wall unit built to hold everything and we have inwall speakers. The idiots who did this when i was small used very low quality bose speakers and left out wires so nothing worked right. I modernized the system a couple years ago and rewired everything so it all worked. Any and all help is appreciated. If anyone wants to chat on aim hit me up at : phenomic69 or icq: 17354672
  25. I am having trouble with my main volume and surround rheostat's(knobs that control the volume). When I turn them, I get a lot of static. The static has gotten louder over time and it happens everytime i turn the volume. Also, now, there are certain positions that if i put the main volume at, I get no bass at all. Like i lose bass and I have to wiggle it. It has gotten very annoying. I tried using electronic contact cleaner in the past and it has helped but not 100%. I dont have any access to any or tools (at college) so I cant do that atm. Is there anything else i can try?
