  1. I just received my 2900 yesterday. I have read BB reviews were people had trouble with the dvd-a and sacd connections. Im not savvy when it comes to detailed language related to hook-ups. Is the owners manual reader friendly? I have not had a opportunity yet to read it. I have the Denon 4802 receiver. If I run into problems can i contact you for assistance? Awaiting arrival of Samsung's HLN507W 50" DLP TV next week! Thanks..... Peter greek@webtv.net
  2. I am seriously considering in the very near future buyin the Denon 3800. I currently have the Phillips Q50. Would I notice a significant difference? Can you tell me details on its audio/video strengths? How does CD playback sound? Any freezing?.....chroma bug? Thank you for your time and input. The GREEK

    Decent music DVD's

Boa.... It's a PhilipsQ50 DVDP....prog-scan....although its does not have DVD-audio, it does have the DTS format option. And, well I bought that Queen DVD (what a legend) ...last night, and to hear the DTS tech and Queen together was a sonic orgasm! The enveloping sound was just AWESOME! The harmony especially on "love of my life" is stunning! Tonight I found and bought a Bruce Hornsby DVD (Rockpalast series) on Pioneer Artists label.....awesome live DVD - highly recommended! I have also been hearing that the "Hell freezes over" Eagles cd is hot..... Peter

    Decent music DVD's

Thanks everyone for the DVD info. I have dealt with DVDplanet once before concerning movies with good results. I have heard several strong positive comments/reviews on Queen's DVD-audio/DTS format of "night at the opera". Im prob going to pick it up. You know, That music that it sounds like you all are familiar with......nothing these recent years can compare with it. Peter
  7. I'm interested to hear what music DVD's people are finding exceptional. My fav groups/artists are mostly from the 70's and some 80's. Im looking also for particular music DVDs that the soundtrack was digitally remastered in the studio. Is there a particular website that has a decent selection of music DVD's? Peter
  8. What is the difference between dolby surround and 5.1 surround formats? Which format is ideal to listen to?
  9. Thanks for responding back. Actually if anything, I should ADD another pair of surrounds(only have 1 pair in the rear). Im using my Philips to spin my music cds. The only prob with this is that I have been told to hear the full impact of DVD-audio and HDCD, you need a player designed to run these formats. And.....Im interested in these formats - I understand the sonic quality is awesome. I have this inkling feeling, these 2 formats will be the next generation of music storage/play maybe?? I have heard if I do anything I should get a new dedicated cd player (Rega planet 2000) maybe? I am new to HT. I dont know any of the technical audiophile language and theory - I wish i did! I just have a great love for having a decent HiFi system and listening to music. Before I put together my current system, I had separates that I spun my music cds on - - Sonograph SC22 (by Conrad Johnson Design) preamp - NAD 2100 "power envelope" Amp - Nakamichi MB-4S CD player/changer .....these guys are put away in the closet. I have been doing some reading here on the net and i understand people are using separates with their AVR's?? Anyway, any suggestions if I want to sell them?? Thanks again for the feedback - its appreciated. Peter
  10. I am trying to get a deep full-bodied sound from my sub without that "boomy" sound playing cds and dvds. On my Denon 4802, i changed and adjusted the crossover freq. to 60Hz... and set the fronts to "Large"....and subwoofer mode to "LFE-THX". Before, I had Cross Freq. set to "Fixed-THX".....front speakers to "small". Subwoofer mode remained the same. Are my settings appropriate? I believe it may sound better now. The damn Denon manual is difficult for me to follow. I need some feedback/input please. Peter Denon AVR 4802 Philips Q50 DVDP Klipsch "Quartets" (fronts) RSW-10 RC-3 II RS-3 II
  11. I have a pair of Quartets as fronts that are used for both HT and music cds. They do sound real good, though i would like some input if it would be realistic to upgrade/replace them? Peter Denon 4802 Philips Q50 DVDP RSW-10 RC-3 II RS-3 II
  12. Dave, Thanks for replying back - its appreciated. i had bought the 3801 about a month ago, but decided to return it and exchange it for the 4802. So, you dont use the Denon "surround" modes to listen to your musical cds? Actually I have been somewhat experimenting with the direct and stereo modes lately. Now the musical DVD's - what settings are you using? I'm using my Philips Q50 DVD player with optical digital inputs to play my music cds. Whats your thoughts about using my DVDP to spin my musical cd's? What does your system consist of? Denon 4802 Philips Q50 DVD player Klipsch Quartets (fronts) -Transparent "the wave 200" connects for fronts RSW-10 sub RC-3 II RS-3 II
  13. I recently purchased the Denon 4802. Alot of bells and whistles for a beginner as myself. Also in my system the Philips 50 DVD player and Klipsh Quartets for fronts and reference center, SW, and surround rears. On playing musical cd's are the pure direct/direct/stereo options the ideal applications to play music cd's? Or, are the DENON surround modes applicable to use listening to music cd's? If so....which surround mode is most appropriate? Is there an "un-official" Denon web site for tech/help assistance?
