K1 or K2 have less negative FB? I believe on my K2s it is selectable. 26dB gain or 1.4v for full output which is even more gain. My D75s are 26 dB gain. Also I think Mark turned down the gain on the "Duke".

FeedBack and Gain are not related

And Wendy (Walter) Carlos used Cornwalls hanging from chains in her studio. That means nothing. For a while certain engineers/producers liked Yamaha NS10s, too.

NS 10 are still in many small Studios. 🙂

I'm feeling pretty good. I'll be glad when the androgen blocker shot finally wears off. I've probably got a few more months to go with that. Motivation is shot right now. I have lots of projects started and nothing finished.

    Aaahhh ...Whassa hurry ???

Projects will still be there next month. 🙃

I have a good friend in Phoenix that has a set of those and has had them for close to 30 years now.  Those things are the shiznit and love being played on a big Mac 2300.  We tripped a house breaker one night jamming, maybe 1996 or so, and that amp was just coasting.  I still remember it to this day.

    Needs 30 A Circuit. 🙃

I'm picking up a very nice pair of original, consecutive Klipsch Chorus I's (no modifications or upgrades). I'm going to put these in a 500 sq ft space right now.  I have the following receivers/amps (and wpc at 8 ohms):

    • Marantz PM8006
      • 80 wpc
      • My go-to right now
    • Carver HD772
      •  140 wpc
      • I will need to repair, as it just stopped turning on... I think it's a straightforward fix
    • Sony DA4400ES home theatre receiver
      • 120 wpc
      • Got free. I don't love the sound from this unit.
    • Two Niles 1230 12-channel amp
      • 80 wpc when bridged
      • Got free. Not sure if I can configure for more power output. Have not set up yet.
    • Linn LK100:
      • 50 wpc
      • Got free. Have not set up yet.

Unfortunately, from what I've read perhaps everything except maybe my awesome Carver would a poor fit for these speakers.

    1. Will the Carver receiver or any of the above be sufficient for showcasing these speakers?
    2. Will they sound "bad" on the PM8006 when played a reasonably lower levels for regular listening?
    3. Would I be better off selling everything and getting a single really nice high powered amp?

My experience with LS and KH is that Carver, tho not really Hifi sounds fabtastic unless you are a real picky snob. 😀

I lifted this post from another forum ( https://forums.thepaceline.net/showthread.php?t=303204 )but thought it might be of interest here.  Not sure if this has ever been posted here - I did a quick forum search and found no history.  The WAPO article is a cautionary tale.  Hope the links work.
Please pardon me if this is a repost.

Ken Fritz. Approximately $1,000,000 USD. 27 years. A very custom 1,650 square foot addition to his house. 35,000 watt amplifiers. A 1,500 pound (680 kg) turntable with three arms. Three 10 foot main speakers, four 7 foot surround speakers, 24 subwoofers.

    Just one little excerpt -

    Quote:

“He crafted by hand the three 10-foot speakers that loomed like alien monoliths at the head of the room, with the help of Paul Gibson, a former employee at his fiberglass company. Each 1,400-pound slab pulsed with 24 cone drivers for the deeper tones and 40 tweeters — 30 shooting into the room, 10 toward the crimson curtains draping the wall behind — to project the upper-range sounds.”
