  1. Thanks for the reply. No I have not. What do you suggest?
  2. I have a 4.2 setup (2)2.1 systems running together. All was well for a few years but now the one sub will cut in and out dependent on volume I have it at. If the sub was dying why would it not simply stop working? It happens as soon as I turn it on. What is the repair procedure for getting it looked at? Is there a flat fee? Thanks for taking the time.
  3. "placebo"? If you mean placement, i tend to disagree. The speakers were already in the same location except they were sitting on a shelf not hanging off the wall. Trust me or don't trust me, but the sound improved.
  4. Copper Pins? You mean for plugging into the sub? I got some monster cable ones at home depot but u can get similar at radio shack. http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&product%5Fid=278-310 I also got the 3.5 plugs at radio shack and a soldering iron. It was a pain in the but to do. I suck at doing it. I wasted 3 plugs but they r cheap. Also don't go huge on your wire as the sleeve will not fit onto the back of the plug since the cable will be to fat. I used 16 gauge and it was probably the limit. Good Luck. If you want pics let me know.
  5. I did the mod where I bought 3.5 mini plug-ins and bought some 16-Gauge wire and redid my 4.2 setup. The wire was like $20-$25 for 100' feet of digital-100% oxygen free copper from RCA. I found it to be the cheapest at a home depot. The plugs i picked up at radio shack for like $2-3 a piece. I can honestly say the sound improved considerably. Heck even my wife noticed it. For the ends that plug into the speaker terminals on the sub i bought some of those copper pins u put on the wire ends. Looks nice and probably better sound through them. Those were like $5-6. I mounted them ear level on the walls using the homemade speaker mounts. I just bought some flat steel 1" wide about 3/16" thick for about $3 for a 3' length and bent them to the angle i wanted speakers at. Drilled the end out used a bolt with dual nuts and a washer to put on the speakers and tighten'em a tad to keep them angled correctly. The wires i ran though the wall and and out behind and under the mounts and up into the speaker. It looks really classy.
  6. But the sub plays great when it is not doing this. It thumps just as good as the other sub in the setup. A blown sub would do nothing right??
  7. I have been running a 4.2 setup for over 4 yrs now with no troubles. I noticed that in the last few months the one sub clips in and out here and there. The sats run great but the one sub does give grief. It only clips out for a brief second here and there. Could it be a dying soundcard? I have been overclocking my system for quite sometime. I cannot lock the agp/pci bus speeds while doing this so my sound card is actually running at 36MHz instead of 33MHz which can cause stuff to die prematurely. Any thoughts on the problem?
  8. Once again a dead link......try it before u post it please.
  9. I have been trying to see this mounting system(lol) for months and always led to dead ends.....anyone got real pics of hofy system?
  10. I am trying to figure out how this would get connected into a 4.2 setup. Is it even possible? This would definitely be great for first person shooters....thats the only reason i bought the 4.2 setup.
  11. I agree....give it a rest. Arguing over the internet is like running in the special olympics...no matter who wins your still retarded!!
  12. My father-in-law just dropped off a pair of Magnavox speaker boxes which he no longer uses. The boxes are 3'H x 1.5'W x 1'D. The look like thay could bring down the house. They have what looks like a 10" sw, a nice size midrange and also a tweet. All the wife could say was "Oh No...Here we go again" Well I hooked them up to an amp in my drum studio and they are nothing even close to the ProMedia 4.2 setup I have for my pc. HAHAHA...proof that bigger in not always better.
  13. True....but it goes like this. Ford could slam a V12(GT-40)in the Ford Mustang and have it destroy anything out there but they look at reality. Lets face it...put a big enough engine in any car and it shall fly. Point is this...there is no better mechanical ingenuity than that of the Shelby Cobra. Its mainly an all steel car and it set and still holds records...and oh-yea...it was like that from STOCK! The Viper can only wish it would set in history like that...chances of that happening---ZERO!!!
  14. I am not going to get into it with you but this is a no bs story. I seen many many video clips of vipers getting smoked in the quarter by honda civics and even dodge neons. They are fast no doubt but they are quite big and weigh considerably more. My friend at work had a celica(had is the keyword). That car would get up and run like mad. Seen it smoke some of the baddest cars out there. My friend had a Mustang that he tuned himself that ran low 9's in the quarter and it was easily street legal and it didn't cost total to build what a Viper costs new. Do a search on a file sharing site for street racing and watch Vipers get stomped on by 4cyls.

They are the most hideous thing I have ever seen. My theory is that with enough speakers anything should eventually sound good. Its those speaker enclosures with a select few speakers in it that sound good---those are the companies that know their sh*t. Kinda of like a focus with a 4cyl smoking a 10cyl viper. Simply put...bigger does not always mean better.
  16. Are you talking about the switch on the back of the sub itself? I thought that was simply an on/off switch.

I've just picked up a set of refurbed 4.1s and so far they've been awesome, but I'm concerned about longterm usage. When they aren't in use I always put them in standby mode, and after extended usage I usually check the temp of the sub to make sure it isn't overheating too much. How much can one crank them up on a regular basis without worrying about too much fatigue? ---------------- What do you mean you put them in standby mode??
  18. I have had my Klipsch 4.2 Promedias for along-long time. Well I bought them right from Klipsch when they had that special deal running when they said 4.1s were sold out. Anyways I noticed from the get-go that the subs fire up tuff. I mean heat wise. I don't want this to lead to subs that die prematurely so I was thinking about adding a nice size heat sink to the back of each sub...think this would help any? Kinda like one you put on a computer cpu/video chip but bigger. I would think it would help dissipate the heat. Any thoughts are welcome...I don't know if it sounds stupid but its just a hunch.
  19. Ok.....i gotta ya so far. Now the thing is I only see DVDs in 5.1 modes. What do I do for that? Will I have no surround at all while playing them?
  20. I have been running a 4.2 setup for about 2 years. i have them connected to a Soundblaster Live! X-Gamer. I recently took a trip to the local Tweeter and noticed how good the surround sound setups sounded that they had setup. I just don't think my 4.2s are surround sound capable. I don't get that "bullet flying from one corner of the room to the other" effect. I want to hear stuff spinning around the room and I am not getting that. Is this system capable or do I need to replace some stuff (ex: soundcard, speakers, etc..)????? I wonder if i should have bought the 4.1s and connected them to the digi. port on the card. I think that is the only way to go. Am i wrong? Help me out here....Thanx in advance!!!
