skunk stripe? what up wit dat? Never seen it on any other pair. It can't be cleaned/removed?

To be honest, I have no idea; they arrived like this.  While it's strange to remove a grill to wash something that's brand new I'm not opposed to it.

  2. ... a few moments later...

I am super impressed with the KI-396, and overwhelmed by the encompassing live-like sound these can output.  Even before running ARC, I had a smile on my face and after running ARC the smile is even larger.  Coming from a pair of electrostats that gave me some trouble over the past almost 20 years of ownership, these are a real treat and check many of the boxes.  It also helps that they are nowhere near as fragile.

Here is one channel of result of running ARC (red is sweep, green is correction, black line is target curve).  I can always tinker with this later.

Only complaint and this may go away with time (not sure) is the skunk stripe down the foam backing on the grill.  If it still bothers me with time I'll replace it with something less "shiny."  Worse in person than it is in the photo, but a reminder these are pro-level cabinets.

Audio Classics selling their demo pair is strange. I thought they had clients that would buy with the other high end they sell. They sell speakers that are a lot more than the Jubes. Just my two cents

They do have very high end equipment.  However they don't have many listening rooms or a ton of space - you'll see plenty speakers crammed inside the main rooms at times.  I believe they have "nestled in" to this building some time ago.  It was roughly 20 years ago that I went there in search of hi-fi and a gentleman by the name of Ernie was astonishingly accommodating;  any piece of equipment I wanted to hear I could, whatever my budget was at the time didn't matter.  I feel that's how things should be.

I have had some difficulties purchasing items from them in the past few years but I can understand their need to sell the pair of Jubes.  Sometimes "everything is for sale" and they have to move stock.

  4. should i like... buy these just so someone can purchase them from me later?  aren't these rare as hens teeth or not worth it.

    How old are they?

Serial # lookup shows 1998.  So they're in the quarter century club - a candidate for new caps.

I'm not looking to make these into SPL demons (I have another project that does that) but some more bass extension would definitely be nice to have.
