Yes, I've tried different cassettes, all act the same. I can see belts and pulleys/gears moving, but its likely the capstan or idler is not being engaaged. I am deciding whether to remove the front or not. I would rather not get in too deep. A previous service did get most of the hardened grease out of the mechanisms which did help. The REW and FF speed seem slow, which also points to the idler.

So I opened up the NAK and confirmed that FF and REW work. When pressing play, I can hear and see a motor engage, but I don't see the hubs on the cassette rotate. One motor operates REW and FF functions. The play motor does engage and I see a belt turning a large weighted pulley however the hub does not engage the tape. Will need to look further. I do not see remanents of any broken belt inside the unit.

OKay, I will take a look. It's been serviced before. I think the belts may be okay, but I will open it up and find out.

Just south of Austin, TX. When the play button is pressed the capstan engages the cassette tape and you hear the tension taken up in the tape but the tape does not advance. I'm the original owner and I miss using my NAK.

Anyone have recommendations? I would prefer a shop/tech that can use Nakamichi parts if available.

All right, I  will stand pat on my basic speaker cables. It's funny how some other audiophile forums discuss spending quite a sum on speaker cables and act like they make a huge difference.

Well, I forgot to update this thread. Replaced all of the binding posts. Much happier as I don't have a random speaker drop. Now wondering if the banana plug type connectors have any advantage in sound quality over the basic speaker wire. My ADCOM GFA 255 can use either.

Thanks! This looks very different than what is on my Quarts currently. These connectors are for banana plugs. I can certainly do this work, I am "handy". I would post a picture of what I have currently, but I don't seem to have the rights to post photos. 

 

On an unrelated note, how long am I on probation and only allowed one post per day?

Have Quartets, but the caps do not securely bind the speaker wire to the posts. Previous owner may have damaged them. Looking for replacements. 

 

Not too familiar with this style of post. The simple method used on my Heresy I's seems like a tried and true way to do it.
