Turned on my system today, all of the sudden I started hearing a popping noise coming from my left speaker, looked down at the amp and saw sparks omitting out of the chassis, needless to say I quickly hit the off button on my system and shut it all down. I pulled the bottom cover off the ill fella and found a couple of resistors at the power tube fried one to a crisp. Is this the end result of a power tube going south? Are there any checks Icando or should I just replace the bad resistors and throw in a fresh batch of tubes.

I like the way they put the element of realism into the story and characters, sound and affects were excellent. Can't wait for the next one.

would it benefit me sonically to change out the sound card to something else.
most definitely.
Looking for some suggestions on sound card models.

Not sure if the 2 channel forum is the appropriate site to post this, but I value this groups responses, so here goes.
I have a Sound Blaster Live card (not sure if its 24bit, if that even matters for playback) in my current office computer, would it benefit me sonically to change out the sound card to something else. I have Itunes playing into a sonic impact amplifying a set of klipsch SB-1's.
I know the computer is my weakest link, I played with the EQ settings in Itunes , as most music sounds veiled and uninviting, its a little better but still pretty sterile, any suggestions.

Visually it would be next to impossible to check for wear or damage, unless you have a high powered microscope along with the correct lighting, in the end you would still have to know what your're looking for in a way of wear or damage. I think your ears will tell you if theres any problems with your stylus, install it, make your correct adjustments, put on a LP you don't value much and give it a good listen for any abnormalities.

Just took a look at the new specs for the Heresy III. The frequency response numbers don't reflect any additional bass. Have the specs been revised yet.?
Those are preliminary specs, we'll get the final ones soon.
I mean, come on guys, would you rather our engineers be working furiously on getting the Cornwall ready, or measuring product that's already finished? []
Spoken like a true corporate clone.[]

Ok, we've touched on best drummer & bassists, why not vocalists.
I first the late Freddy Mercury and second Robert Plant in his Zeppelin days.

That's some long hard travels for such a delicate tube to make, might as well ship you some eggs.

If you have some equipment with microphonic tubes, putting these isolators under them can help. It worked for me on the Rogue Magnum which has the inherently microphinic 6sn7.
When I had the Rega P3 in the mix, I put isolators under the feet, this made a very pleasent difference in the performace of the table in terms of better imaging, there may have been some other attributes but they escape me at the moment. YMMV.

I agree with Carl, the pre is going to create the true signature of your system, the amps just ENLARGE the sound, I'd give a tubed pre a try with both amps, that would make for a fair assesment.

I can only speak for the FP, it was a fun and educational to build. I had no soldering skills when I began the project, but by the end I was almost a pro. The mods make for fun to hear the changes they produce.
I no longer use the forplay, its collecting dust at this point. The onlyt hing you see in the mix that I still use in my main system are the Dynaco MkIII that I rebuilt and modded myself, I'm damn proud of those babies and truley enjoy there sound strapped in triode.

I had a similar scenario with the HK 430 in my garage, unfortunately changing the internal fuses that did blow didn't fix my problem. Hope this isn't the issue in your case. If anyone has any idea on what else to check let me know.

Hey all,
I can almost anticipate the responses I will receive, but here goes.
Picked up an Ipod to carry my whole cd library around with me to enjoy. Thrilled to death with it so far, bought a different set of headphones for it though, those ear pods kill. I picked up an Itrip fm modulater to send the signal to my car stereo ( I don't have a cd player) and shop stereo, its the bomb as far as convienence, sound quality not the best, but it is what it is.
I,ve been considering picking up the base for this toy so it can put use of its line out function and hook it up to my 2 channel system, to see if it works better than going through the headphone mini jack which is terrible in terms of sound quality. Anyone try this and notice any difference or am I just wasting my time and money, and just stick to its practical purpose.

OK, I hope everyone had a good laugh, yes that is magnet wire that was left over from the Bottlehead Foreplay, and Paramour projects. I figured if it was good enough for them it should be fine for the Dynaco's.
I'll change out those resistors and try out some other tubes I have on hand.
Thanks guys, glad I could put on smile on all your faces.
