the K-80  carry  the 2nd Generation klipsch  tweeter diaphragms Mylar/polymer that added  Ferro-Fluid in the voice coil  for better sound reproduction  , cooling  , and durability , these are very high tech ,very good sounding ,  Ferro-Fluid dries and hardens with age , it is VIP to top up  these tweeters with  Ferro-fluid for proper operation

    Welcome to the Klipsch Forum

    Hello OO1,

I think I just made a rookie mistake. I recently bought a pair of kg 4.5 after selling all my gear 12-14 years ago after having children. One of the tweeters wasn’t working so I ordered some diaphragms off eBay. Today I finally got around to replacing the diaphragm. Pulled it out and saw what I now know is ferrofluid. I thought it was some foreign substance which ruined the original diaphragm and as such proceeded to clean it all out 🤦‍♂️. I see you said to “top up” the ferrofluid. Is there a specific amount? Can I use too little or too much? Is there a particular type/brand I should use?

The new diaphragm is titanium unlike the original.

eBay might be best bet. As for getting the old one off… just pick at it. Shouldn’t take much. Pics?

Ordered one off eBay but didn’t realize there were 2 different sizes for the KG line. The one I ordered is much smaller. It was easy to remove it simply popped out with a small flathead screwdriver. I’ve attached pics of the old one and the new, incorrect badge.

    edit:

I believe the smaller one was off a KG2.2 and I need the one off the KG4.5

  3. Hello all,

I haven’t been on the forums in probably 10 years. Shortly after having kids I unloaded virtually all my gear. I’ve since picked up a few sets of speakers and just yesterday bought a pair of KG 4.5 in medium oak. Anyway, got them home yesterday and didn’t hook them up until about 30 minutes ago. One of the horns isn’t producing any sound and of course the seller is telling me they worked fine. Any suggestions on where to start to see what’s going on? Thanks much!

I couldn’t remember my username or password and tried putting in the email I’m sure I used but had to create a new account.

I couldn’t listen to them, as I have always done in the past because it was a 90 minute drive to meet in the middle and yesterday the windchill was in the single digits. Guess that’s what I get for buying speakers without hearing them first.

another edit. I took the entire horn assembly out of both and tried the non working one in the working tower and nothing. Would I just need a replacement diaphragm? Best place to purchase?
