  1. Thanks all, it is interesting to see the different camps divided.....DirectTV, DishNet and AHHHEMMMM, Cable??...I have not defected yet but am currently assessing startup capital/equipment requirements as well as fixed costs for Satellite. I cannot express my disappointment with retail knowledge (lack of) regarding SAT. equipment/installation requirements and options, given my need for five locations (two could probably share one box/receiver). I basically want HD capability in one dedicated room, local channel access and at least 3 dedicated receivers that will allow for Dolby Digital sound for multiple HT's in my home. The good news is I am becoming extremely knowledgable quickly about this as I have sought out info. from HTForum and several other informative websites including this one. Stay tuned... ------------------ My main Klipsch system: KLF-30's Bi-wired KLF-C7 KSP-S6's KSW-15 Front Sub KSW-100 Rear Sub Monster cable 14 gauge in-wall cable Niles wall plates Marantz SR-8000 Toshiba SD-4205 5 DVD changer Pioneer PDF-1007 301-CD changer Mitsubishi 35" Mitsubishi VCR Pioneer VSX-608 Multi-room amp for Outdoor deck Polk All-weather AW2's deck speakers Niles in-wall volume controls Fridge full of beer and plenty of Don Julio, Jagermeister and Jim Beam
  2. AVMAN- Thanks for confirming what I had been hearing about DishNetwork....Can you confirm the HDTV ability of the Model 7200 DBS receiver or will I need a separate HDTV decoder box in addition to the Dishplayer receiver? I will have only one TV/location for dedicated HDTV viewing. AVMAN, Please send me a Private Message re: knowledgable/reputable contacts/phone numbers for DISH equipment and any special promotions or offers to ease the pain of start up costs. Thanks again for all of your help. Am I being overly optimistic on hooking up five different locations? What should I expect to pay to accomplish this? 3. OK, I have had it with local cable (MediaOne/Comcast) and need to identify the startup costs for DBS. Please help me answer the following: 1) I have five TV's hooked to cable currently, I would want at least two of the locations to have independent control of viewing channels. What is best/affordable way to send the DBS signal to two (2) independent and three (3)additional locations for a total of five (5) locations? 2) What is the better service Dish or DirectTV? And for extra credit I want DD and HDTV ability as well as this Tivo thing I think....tell me more about this Tivo. 3) I would also like access to my local channels and I live in Metro-Detroit. Help me make the sales pitch to the wife, I can't take another season of the Sopranos using regular cable. I have yet to find an intelligent person in the retail world (yes, I have went to high end stores) that can answer all of my questions on DBS....Very discouraging. ------------------ My main Klipsch system: KLF-30's Bi-wired KLF-C7 KSP-S6's KSW-15 Front Sub KSW-100 Rear Sub Monster cable 14 gauge in-wall cable Niles wall plates Marantz SR-8000 Toshiba SD-4205 5 DVD changer Pioneer PDF-1007 301-CD changer Mitsubishi 35" Mitsubishi VCR Pioneer VSX-608 Multi-room amp for Outdoor deck Polk All-weather AW2's deck speakers Niles in-wall volume controls Fridge full of beer and plenty of Don Julio, Jagermeister and Jim Beam

  5. Right on Seb and Keith......Just add sub to taste once your in the ballpark of 75dB with RS spl meter. BTW Ray, everyone knows that the quality/taste of the food improves dramatically when using fine Cutlery, Flatware and China.......For my wife and I we get the best results with Wusthof Trident, Yamazaki and Lenox. But this is more along the lines of the speaker wire debate. 6. Without preaching; pound for pound and dollar for dollar the Marantz SR8000 can't be beat. The Denon 4800 and 5800, albeit excellent HT receivers, are in an entirely different price league. I got my SR8000 for under $1,000 and now with all the rave reviews most dealers will get $1,200 or so. 8. Right On Boa12...Now I shall sit tight and harass my local cable provider for more info/updates on their status. HDTV now sounds a lot easier if I don't have to upgrade to DBS-Satellite through the house. Cable is the low cost ticket if the audio/video quality are there. 11. Boa12- Did I read that right.....Your cable co. send out a HD signal for HBO & Showtime??? I must have missed a memo!!! I have MediaOne, excuse me, Comcast now due to recent buyout. Anyway, my question is: Track 22, the song "Seven Bridges Road" is supposed to be an Audio only track in DTS and for whatever reason I can't get it to play!!!! Is there something special I need to do here, please help. Kmart sale prices: Eagles in DTS ----$15.94! The Doors with Val Kilmer by Oliver Stone Special Edition(2 disc DVD) $19.98!! 13. Check out the Marantz SR8000. Excellent build quality, best remote with a receiver in that price range and it has DD/DTS @ 105 X 5wpc. high current, HDAM amplifier. 14. T-man, buylow, Boa12 and HornEd.....I have the KSW-15 as my front sub wired with both, speaker wire in parallel to my mains(KLF-30's), as well as having the Monster Sub-Cable to a Y-splitter to the LFE In/Bypass and the Left input. My rear sub (KSW-100) is wired the same way but using rear sub pre-out. I have had this hooked up for almost a year now with no problems. The reason I use both is because my Marantz SR8000 will not send sub out signal unless in DD or DTS mode (Boa12 is in the same boat with me) so I rely on the speaker level inputs for my sub signal when listening in 2-ch or 5-ch stereo. Is this really bad to hook up this way??? For me it has been the only way to achieve the best volume levels and sub signal for all listening (DD/DTS/2CH/5CH). I have volume levels on both subs at around 12:00-1:00 and KSW-15 at 50 HZ and KSw-100 at 70 hz and have what I would consider to be house shaking bass. I would like to hear how BOA12 settled on hooking up your VEL HGS-18. Even better would be to hear from BobG, Trey or PhilH from Klipsch on the "real deal" as far as my wiring mess goes. I will be doing some comparisons this weekend with each separately and post results, but I have to agree with T-Man that the safest most universal hookup is speaker level inputs....that for me increased volume/output of both of my subs. I thought I was done tweaking..... ------------------ My main Klipsch system: KLF-30's Bi-wired KLF-C7 KSP-S6's KSW-15 Front Sub KSW-100 Rear Sub Monster cable 14 gauge in-wall cable Niles wall plates Marantz SR-8000 Toshiba SD-4205 5 DVD changer Pioneer PDF-1007 301-CD changer Mitsubishi 35" Mitsubishi VCR Pioneer VSX-608 Multi-room amp for Outdoor deck Polk All-weather AW2's deck speakers Niles in-wall volume controls Fridge full of beer and plenty of Don Julio, Jagermeister and Jim Beam

  16. Doug, I own the Quintets with the KSW-100 sub. Here's what I would do if I were you....First I would set all of your speakers to large, I would do this so you would be utilizing the internal crossover in the Quintets....I thought they only played down to 120hz but if you say 100 that's fine. This will allow you to get the max available freq. range out of the Quintets. Now the sub: Option 1: Run speaker level inputs in parallel from your Denon 1601 to the sub spkr inputs R & L. Translation; run a second set of speaker wires from your mains to the sub.....This will not hurt anything as long as it is a powered sub....it will only be drawing minimal current/signal. Option 2: Run sub out cable from denon to Y-splitter and then to R and L RCA inputs on sub. Experiment with each and maybe even try both together (I am running my Quintets with Monster cable with y-splitter AND using Speaker level inputs) for whatever reason having both hooked up at the same time works best. Good luck and be sure to post results for all of us, as sub hookup options are about as confusing as it gets. ------------------ My main Klipsch system: KLF-30's Bi-wired KLF-C7 KSP-S6's KSW-15 Front Sub KSW-100 Rear Sub Monster cable 14 gauge in-wall cable Niles wall plates Marantz SR-8000 Toshiba SD-4205 5 DVD changer Pioneer PDF-1007 301-CD changer Mitsubishi 35" Mitsubishi VCR Pioneer VSX-608 Multi-room amp for Outdoor deck Polk All-weather AW2's deck speakers Niles in-wall volume controls Fridge full of beer and plenty of Don Julio, Jagermeister and Jim Beam

  19. BOA12- Thanks for updating us all......It sounds like you've made a lot of progress with the Marantz and that awesome remote. Is your SR8000 as quiet as mine with the KLF-30's and C7... I can't hear anything out of my speakers between tracks or at idle with volume up. Are you still thinking of going back to the Denon 3801??? I didn't think so. I programmed all of my components into the Marantz remote and I even use 2 of the 4 Macro's to impress the chicks (Wife and daughter). 20. When I check Ebay, no one is ever selling the matching center or selling the complete system......I could be wrong as I don't shop at EBAY for the same reasons as Doug Drake (thanks Doug). Maybe I'll just keep them and convert my 3 year olds bedroom into the ultimate home theater for disney movies only!!!!!!!! There' got to be someone who has an extra powered sub or speakers and would be looking to swap?? 21. Please see my same post under the Home Theater section for complete details. Mint Condition, original center and four matching satellites (all black) with universal mounting brackets. Would consider trade for: RF3's or SF-2's with SS-1's or SB-3's with SS-1's or just suprise me with a reasonable offer. Email/private message to bloomis914@aol.com
  22. I am the proud owner of the Quintet center and 4 matching satellites (all black) these speakers are in mint condition with the universal wall mount brackets. I have recently moved into a new home and I am going to upgrade my basement theater system. I will sell the 5 pieces for the best reasonable offer, or ideally I would like to trade for a set of RF-3's or SF-2's with SS-1's or SB-3's with SS-1's. All reasonable offers of cash or trade will be considered. Please e-mail me at bloomis914@aol.com or send a private message.
  23. Count me in for a Klipsch T-Shirt/Polo and a hat and a wall plaque would be nice.
  24. Very simple needs: I only want the best. 1. Sony VPL-W10HT Projector...This thing is what I need in my totally finished, totally dark basement. Both of my current Sony and Mitsu 35 inchers only have S-video, no component inputs. Just when I thought I had a decent TV along comes HD and component inputs 2. Ok, so I would settle for a new 16:9 HDTV from Pioneer, Mitsubishi or Toshiba 3. I'm dying to order a couple of SVS subs That oughta cover me for this year.
  25. Boa12- The copy light bugged me for about 3 months also. You need to go in to the set up menus and it is controlled when you select input source (I think)...For clear direction I called Marantz Tech service via the 800 number and it was fixed in less than three minutes. Regarding output volume of the SR8000. We have very similar systems. I watch/listen to the TV at around -45 to -50 db in the 5-channel stereo mode. DVD's or VHS tapes in Dolby Pro Logic, Dolby Digital or DTS are set at about -25 Db.........THIS IS UNBELIEVABLY LOUD. My wife (who enjoys Music and HT) says "No louder than -25 db for movies" because explosions or scary bass impacts make her hit the roof!! You need to go into the speaker level menu and setup all individual speakers(-10db to +10db) for each mode also. They are probably all set at the factory flat setting of 0 db. Mine are set up as follows: KLF 30's(large) L=+7db, R=+9db KLF-C7 (small) +8db KSP-S6's (small L=+8db, R=+10db If I turn up a DVD to any louder than -20db.....look out it is real loud. Only exception has been concert DVD's I run at around -15db. For plain 2-channel stereo or CD's -15db notifies all of my neighbors of the music I'm playing(I'm in a 2,500sq.ft. home on .5 acre lot)....-10 to -5db is reserved for 1-2 minutes of "listen to this!!!" for friends only. Normal guests would run for the hills at this point. And once or twice after several Margaritas I got it to +3db and saw a vision of PWK appear!! Those KLF-30's can pound!! Good luck and give the Marantz time and make sure you have it set up properly regarding speaker sizes and levels before even thinking of trading it in for the 3801. It is truly a very warm and pure sounding piece.
