  1. Something else you may want to consider , if you have the time and can wait, is the CEDIA show is in Atl next month( last week). You can get in there and play with all the "toys" and see what is out there .If you're gonna spend the money check out all the manuf at one spot and see which you like best ... will fit in the area you have .... and that you won't want to "upgrade" in a couple of years. Lot's of really neat stuff there including Audio / connections / and mounting Memphis Mike
  2. I have been looking at doing my system all over again but have been confused about amp ratings. I have some exp with electronics but don't understand how amps outputs can be rated at 700 watts at 4 ohms/2 ohms( example only) when the math says house circuits won't hold up to things like this.Unless everyone that has these killer amps have replaced their breakers with monster breakers too. Or have individual circuits for each of the amps. This might seem like a dumb question but I want to do this right the first time.
  3. And of course there is the obvious test( considering you have access)Audio generators and a sound room.) I work for an Manufacturing co of electronic products. We do the "Engineering" thing first, with the mics and generators with O'scopes and printers then we , believe it or not bring in the average "Joe" and let them tell us what their opinion is and compare it to our Technical results and notes. But since we've gotten specific (smile inputed here) .. Nobody mentioned any ELP or Robin Trower.
  4. RY, I personally don't have a favorite selection of songs to do this with. I do however take a range of different types to listen to the whole spectrum. Something accoustic, some jazz( preferably/ piano bass /sax/ etc), and something that I really like and know every note. Take something you like ! Compare what you have heard that music on and see what the "new " sounds like. I may even bring a little classical too.
  5. Folks, Being new to this board I have found lots of good info from the Audiophiles that hang out here. This has also got me looking at my equip and it is now being called "vintage". I have a pair of spkrs in storage that I knew the top end was blown so I was going to apply some of the updates you guys have suggested for the Klipsch. My problem is I can find no info on the speakers I own. Original documents ... boxes... packing etc... I have but Bought in Japan. " Tamon TS-9000 " Anyone have any idea where I can find info or have info on these?
  6. Hey folks, Don't mean to be rude and cut in but I have questions for HBRbuilder as well. And it's even on the same topic. HBR , I asked a couple of posts ago..( New to forum old vs new) I asked then if any one had any other info about my Hersey's. Since I have been reading the posts I have figured out some more info I should have included. First , i said they were HBR consecutive # 156Y303 / 304 @ Trademark 1980 . Inspector: Judy Purtle(?) Tested : Chris Willis Also looking at the initials that you have stated exist I have found that on the bottom left and top right ( at the butt plates ) mine have USA stamped. At the top is the serial numbers. On the left hand side board has the initial "F" stamped. Would you happen to know the history of these like you did for the person who started this post?
  7. AAB3RD, My questions to you, would be, would you be willing to seperate the two pairs and how much are you asking for them? Another question would be the what condition are they in? Bolivar is not that far of a ride and that is a plus. Since I found this BB I have been researching some of the equipment that I have. I have found lots of interesting information and comments. Let me know ...
  8. Originally I was powering these with the Pioneer seperates.( Spec 1 and Spec 4) I had the "rack" system that I purchased in Japan. Tuner .. TX7500 Eq ... SG9500 Dynamic Processor .. RG-1 Pre .. Spec 1 Amp ... Spec 4 T/T ... Marantz 6300 I even brought a Sansui Receiver back as well. 9090DB Switched between the Sansui and the rack until I decided which one I liked best. Had a second pair of speakers that were an off shoot. Nothing special. It is all old school equipment but I was able to mix and match until I got what I liked . The store in Japan was little more than a warehouse where you could plug and play any combination until you were happy.
  9. Thank you all for your responding to my questions. And Yes . I do love the sound that they produce. In fact , I have added and subtracted from the system itself over close to the 20 yrs that I have owned them(and never opened them), but have always built around these speakers. At one time I even configured a way to play a guitar through them. Now that things technically have gone digital it just keeps getting better and better. So well , I have a friend in his 60's that has a walnut pair of the same dating that I am trying to talk him into selling them to me. Kinda like to try my hand at a little HT with nothing but Klipsch.
  10. Hey all. Just found this board and wasn't sure which part of the forum to put this in , but .... Old school rocker and audiophile . Purchased my Heresey's from Modern Music ( Memphis Tn)in 1980. The label on the rear calls them simply " Heresey" / HBR. The trademark date says @ 1980. These have the birch finish that I added the Tongue oil to, to liven up the grains. Love my speakers and they are in perfect condition. ( never moved and always maintained) After reading the board they are matched ( ser #156Y303-304). My question here is ... ( First I love the response and tones no matter if it is classical, jazz , or rock) Did I happen to purchase some really nice speakers that may have retained their original value or did I get something that is not quite old enough to really be " the good ones" ? I am happy either way but just curious. I can take a pic of the labels if it would help to determine exactly what the "Klipsch" world can determine. curious in Memphis
