Very nice! Keep the pictures coming.

Curious about the tuning of those bass bins... did you conduct any measurements to see at what point those begin to fall off?
Those mid-horns are beautiful, and I have to agree with your assessment of the importance of the midrange in this type of design.
It's basically just like the Cornwall, and it tests about the same.

I finally have a webpage up for these speakers.

I also finally named them. Alura.

Nice craftsmanship. Love the brass screws. The only thing I don't like is that funky T2A auto-former. Anyone who springs for a pair of your speakers might as well go all out and replace the T2A with this. I talked to Paul and sent him a schematic of the T2A and he provided that the zero was a direct replacement in terms of the DB changes per tap and number of taps. btw, they are about 6" in diameter.
I was looking at those the other day. I would love to try a pair.
BTW, I use the model 3636, not that it makes much difference for this discussion.

Really a great show. Been watching every episode.
Anyone else think that Daryl is getting a little tired of it? It seems to me that he had more energy in the earlier episodes.

Those look really nice! What grill cloth is that Greg?
That's one of the Wendell Fabrics acoustic cloths - 4163 I think. www.wendellfabrics.com

Thank you everyone.
I didn't take many pictures of the build process, just haven't had the time lately. Sorry. The bass sections are built with 1" Baltic Birch and the top sections are 3/4" and more or less permanently mounted. The top sections are open on the back (pic below). The bass sections do extend up into the upper riser to provide a bit more volume, which helped keep the cabinet size a bit smaller. I didn't use the space in the bottom riser because I felt it might screw up the porting with the opening from the cabinet to the bottom riser area.

Very nice work! I can't believe you veneered all the way inside the LS. What did you use to glue the veneer on?

Looks great Nat!

That's a cool video. I remember when you told me about this a while back, we were talking about the idea of using a glass of water to show the vibrations.
I can attest to the effectiveness of isolation. Not so much with Super Balls, because I haven't tried those, but I use cone shaped feet, and it's still amazing to me how it affects the imaging of my system when used under my DAC. Doesn't do so much under the transport, but under the DAC really makes a difference.

My JFL2A3s supposedly peak at twice that, but they aren't good listening at those kinds of levels. My P-CATs are for listening to then. If I want over 95dbl, it's the P-CATs. The 2A3s are beautiful under that. I assume that the JFLs have some headroom that you don't have with the Wrights, but any 2A3 will run out of gas before hard-rock-heavy dbls.

Fellow JFL Horus amp owner here. Jeff told me that my amps would put out 1.8wpc.
Beautiful sounding amps. I don't think I could ever part with them.

Congrats to the Packers from a long time Steelers fan. Steelers had too many mistakes tonight, plus Ben just didn't look like he was playing his best ball.

I think your speakers are still Klipsch Heresy speakers.

You're welcome.
They came out great. I dig the cane too.

Try placing shims under them in just the right areas, and put weights on them (books) to bend them in the opposite direction of the warping by at least as much, if not more than the amount they are warped, and leave them like that for a while. They may come out of it.

I have been asked many times over the years to provide braces for Do-It-Yourselfers to install in La Scala bass horns to reduce the known resonances with the large unbraced sides of the horn. But I've been reluctant to do this because each brace needs to be fitted individually to each side of the LS bass horn, and installing them is a nasty job. I'm still wary of doing this, but since I was making some braces for a project anyway, I decided to make a few more, and I've got a couple of sets available if someone wants to tackle this job.
I also have made some extra grill frames used to cover the braces and create the double-V look that I've used in some of my modified La Scala speakers.
More information and pictures here on my website www.voltiaudio.com/lascalabraces.shtml

You did a nice job with that. I can attest to how difficult it is to match walnut edgebanding to the veneer on Khorns. The one pair I tried it on? I gave up and re-veneered the entire cabinet!

Hi Greg,
I wish I could post a pic, but my camera is so bad it wouldn't be of any help to you anyway. So, I will attempt to explain as best I can:
From the crossover to the top of the bass-bin, the wire has spade connectors on both ends, and is 22-inches long.
From the inside of the bass bin, the wire has a pair of ring (closed) connectors on one end and bare wire on the other end that is soldered to the woofer, and is 17-inches long.
Both the upper and lower wires are connected to a two row, 4-position (4-screw) terminal strip, affixed to the top (exterior) of the bass-bin..
I have taken these measurements from the factory wires on my Belle's. Hope this helps.
Happy New Year!
Marty
Wow, thank you so much Marty! That is exactly the information I was looking for. It's basically just like the La Scala, only the barrier strip is not visible, it's below the tophat in the riser area.

I have an old K400 horn that has a 3/32" hump in the middle of the inside. What interesting is this is from the cut-a-way that was sent to dealers to show off the construction of the Khorn to potential customers.
