playntheblues replied to playntheblues's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
I would like to thank both of you (again). I will also pass these along when the time comes. The forum can be a great place when folks get along and share knowledge and equipment. All the best, Guy -

Hi, Congrats , lol Yes I would love to have them count me in. I will be happy to pass them along once I find another pair like you just got. I was able to purchase one of those NOS from the same guy. I was looking for three (bridged center). How high of a bid did you place. I thought I was safe with $300.00 LOL. Thank you very very much and I look forward to them. All the best, Guy -

Not sure bsafirebird1969, thats the builders home. Sorry

Greg, yes it has side grills or you can order the full wave guides, like on the Vita Vox. One of the other nice things is you could cross the mid down to 250hz. That would tighten the bass.

Chris, there is a horn group in DAllas, the DFW hornheads. I have not ordered them, but I'm tempted. I was in the middle of tweaking my K-horns and ran into these. I have purchase a JBL 2404 tweeter and was looking for a University mid, and started to talk with John Warren about a crossover for the Baby Cheeks (JBL 2404). John started talking about how good he heard the BMS coax was and I started looking for horn options and ran into these. After talking with Dean this evening I tend to agree with him. I think the trick is going to be the crossover. Andy the fella that makes them has a crossover for a different mid., not the BMS coax. Boy they sure look good and total cost would be about $4,500.00 but that is a big leap of faith.

This is an enlarged vita vox with the full wave guides. They offer the wave guides on the cabinet $ 350. each cabinet. The side hatches for driver removal are made with the braces attached so the side must be removed for driver access. The top and bottom are all removable and screwed together on site. It is a bit of work to set them up but well worth it in extended bass performance, or if there is not a perfect corner to be had.

It features 2" thick "D" shaped sand cast compresion chamber. The Bass is so smooth, flat 28hz~300hz ,tested with JBL 2245H, resonance is 32HZ This is the First one built, winning bidder will have first option for the next one. Fundemental frequencys of 16 hz can be heard at reduced level. This horn feels like a locomotive is passing through my living room.

Quicksilver monos- what to gain over tube integrated
playntheblues replied to richieb's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
The Cayin TA-30 is a wonderful amp. and for the money you can't go wrong! I too had the Cayin fully upgraded from Buzzy Bee (what a great guy to work with). I upgraded about two months ago to Dodd Audio 8 watt mono blocks and a ground grid pre amp.. Take this with a bowl of salt, I think the Dodd amps. are the other best deal going! The mono blocks cost $1,200.00 new custom built point to point nothing but the best parts. I would (and many others too) put these amps. up against any amp., they are that good! Just like speakers no amp. is perfect and you get to the point where they just sound different. So you will have to find what sounds the best in your home. Back to your question. Sorry for the rambling. My monos in my system improved the imaging, sound stage, highs and lows were more extended. It is a major improvement. MY next search is for the perfect preamp. for my system. Been looking at BAT 51 se, TacT 2.2s, Dodd Audio, etc.etc. Good luck and enjoy the journey. All the best, Guy -
Just wondering, how much are they asking?

congrats Nothing like having your system just the way you like it. ROCK ON! -
You know my friend did tell me that the University just plugs right in heres his quote " I now have a "pair" of 1953/54 horns with JBL 2404H tweeters, University SAHF in K-5-J wood horn, and Stephens 103-LX2 woofers. IMHO, this is the best best combination I've found so far. Te system usually startles me at least once every listening session... it's sounds very "real"."
