  1. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3083611697&category=61378 anyone have an idea how they might sound? I thought that they might make a nice for surounds, but I think I would be better finding a pair of Belle and more my Heresy to the rear. I do see a pair of LaScala's inhte Toronto area, atleast that would only be a 12-14 hour drive. I will have to think about that over the weekend. although I don't really care for the black lacquer finish.
  2. I found these on the Canadian site, might be nice if I lived a few thousnad km's closer (say 9,000kms +/- 1,000). Oh well I'll have to keep watching, something is bound to turn up around here. sorry about the missing link. I must have been in dream land, try this http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3080292608&category=14993
  3. Here is a photo showing the glue where the veneer is bonded to the BDF / front veneer panel. I sanded all of the edges until they were flush with the adjacent side. It may have been my incompetence in veneering and there may not be a way to fix this one, but how do I improve on this. One thought, this was a pre-glued veneer from a local hardware store, next time I may an untreated or paper backed veneer, (mail order).
  4. The glue showing is the amount sandwiched between the veneer and the mdf. the most visible place is the top since it was put on last. I would estimate the white glue line @ approx. half of a 0.5mm lead pencil. I am not sure how I could have avoided it, I try and post a photo when I get home tonight. Any help is appreciated.
  5. I have now finished a couple of coats with the boiled linseed oil. The grain is realy starting stand out a bit and I am satisfied would the out come at this point. But, since the wood is getting darker and the glue is staing white, the glue under the veneer ant the edges are really showing up. Is there anything I can do about this?
  6. ok, thanks for all the help. I just got back with the linseed oil. I better get to work.
  7. ok, just did a search, I BLO, I assume single boiled.
  8. Thanks for the quick reply; Im going to head out to the hardware store for supplies. Oh, are there different types of linseed oil, i.e. boiled, double boiled or plain?
  9. I have just finished veneering my sub with a walnut veneer. I notice that the Heresy finish has an orange tinge to it, is this because of the finishing process at Klispch or is it due to time. Any suggestions on how to match the colors?

    Suggestions

Thanks for the input guys. I would love to have a NAD T742, but it cost twice as much. I still wonder if I should wait but I was hoping the denon or Yamaha would make a good alternant.
  11. I am looking at buying a new HT receiver. I have found a couple that should be suitable for my needs as far as options and price range, both are last years model and are 5.1. I wonder if I can get some insight into overall quality and which would be the best performer when it come to music. - yamaha RXV530 or - denon AVR1603
  12. I am just getting into HT leaving the old VHS tape behind. My question is, what do I look for in a DVD player, ie built-in-Dolby, optical output, DTS output, etc. What are some of the more important feature required, I plan on buying a receiver shortly after.
  13. artto "Perhaps Mr. Ellis should take things back one step further & just use mono. And while he's at it, possibly have some surgery done, to remove both side ears & instead have one ear placed squarely in the middle of his forehead." Yikes, yikes, ...
  14. I ran across a site, can't get the guys name yet because his index page is out of commission, but his discussion on center channels very interesting. http://www.ellisaudio.com/cc.htm

    DIY Sub

I just logged back on and noticed that my previous post got lost on route, sorry about that. I basicall covered the fact that after exchange and duty etc to Canadian dollars, I would be putting ~650.00 dollars for the driver and amp. If I could only find a supply of decent drivers and amp I would go for it. I love the ideaIof constructing my own sub, but I am concerned about my ability to build somthing that I could stand to look at. thats another reason I like the IB setup, the box is hidden on the other side of the wall. I am going to build something, maybe I'll start with an empty sono sub and check out the size and Aesthetics before sinking the other $650.00 into it.

    DIY Sub

Dustin Are you the that built the twins? if so how do you think the 3'-3.5" sub compaired to the 5' 11" tempest? My main concerned about a DIY sub project is sinking $700-$800 into it and ending up with a boom box. How would you compair the sound quality and range of the tempest sonosub to a pw2200 or velodyne cht-12.

    DIY Sub

I have been thinking about building my own sub, but can I actually make a sub that would compair to a manufactured sub? I mean that with all the engineering and testing done before a production model is produced, how can I throw somthing together that would be compairable. Aside from that, I can't decide what style, they all seem so interesting. One moment I have decided on a sono sub, then and IB sub then a dipolar IB sub... Now I have run into another very interesting design. I am going to post a couple of links and look forward to some feedback. I don't now if I am capable of the woodwork or not, but I am very tempted to find out. I would love to have a horn like one of these. http://www.decware.com/whorn.htm (the original - basic layout plans avalible online) http://www.decware.com/wicked1.htm (the redesigned - have to buy plans)
  18. What are you using for speaker cable now? I just went through a similar upgrade. I had the same setup since the early 80's, 30' pair of 18 gauge zip wire. I upgraded to 12 gauge ofc (Oxygen Free Copper), as well as, rewired my heresy and diy interconnects. The change was incredible, I wish that I had of made these changes years ago. I plan of experimenting with some alternate speaker cables, but I also think that there is a point of return (appreciable change). If you are using 27 year old 18 gauge zip wire, get ride of it.
  19. scounce What ever happened to the PWK signed Brazillian Khorns, did they make it to thier new home? Was there a photo posted of thier new habitat?
  20. HDBRbuilder Thanks for the info, I'll pick up a couple of different sizes tomorrow. I have seen some clear silicon textured ones, I assume that what you are gettin at with the grippers is to imobilize them, right. I have some of that rubberized cloth used as placemats on patio tables on the riser to keep the Heresy from sliding off. This works really well, after sitting for a day or two a gental bond forms between the two and the have to phycally sparated. I didn't like the idea of making holes in the bottom of the heresy, so this works much better. I can't believe the improvement that I made with a little bit of wire. I use to run the nad with subsonic filter on, the EQ boost on and the loudness on at all volume levels (50 w/ch). Now I never have the loudness on and I can hear an increadable difference with the EQ boost. I am so impressed with these little speakers, I find it hard to express it in word. I wish that I could find a secound set, or better yet, and pair of corwalls.
  21. I have made a few changes over the last few weeks and the end result is deeper, fuller and more detailed bass. The same is true with the midrange and highs as well. This fourm is a treasure-trove of information, I wish that I had found the the kind of information years ago. Up until a few weeks ago I had the same setup for the past 15 years. The first modification was the speaker cable which consists of 12 gauge OFC, then I started work on the heresy. I have replaced the zip wire connecting the drivers a number of times, first with cat5 then 12 and 16 gauge monster cable. For now, I am going to run all solid core copper. I have cat5 to the squawker and tweeter, and I am experimenting with a twisted pair of 14 gauge to the woofer. This setup seams to work very well for me event though I don't think that I have a very good soiled joint at the woofer with the double run 14 gauge (needed a third hand but at three in the morning, what can you do). My next step is to replace the 12 gauge OFC with some DIY Cat5 speaker cable and a new set of interconnects. Oh, I am also running a new pair of DIY coax interconnects. Man am I having fun now. I almost forgot, I made a set of 2" ramped stands for the herisy and isolated them from the hardwood floor with four pieces of felt at the corners. I don't now what real effect this has had, but I thought that I should mention it while I was here. I will have to remove the stands and see I there is a difference. That cat5 cable is amazing stuff, I wonder what else is lying around here that I could try out.
  22. I hope in the marketing change that I might see an increase in Klipsch speakers locally. We use to have a relatively decent representation in the mid 80's, i.e. the kg2, kg4, heresy, forte, and cornwalls. All of these were in a decent audition room. I have been looking to audition the Klipsch line and found a local dealer 4km away. They have the sb1, sf1 and ksw 10, all on an isle shelf. sure is great for acoustics eh! Ha ha I did get a descent audition of a pair of RF5 and only had to travel some 640+km round trip. Very impressive, I just wish that I could pop in on a whim; I could use a little more listening time. I have to say, the local store would order in what ever I wanted for only 20% down. I find it hard to buy and/or do a side by side comparison with only the sales pamphlet.

  24. "...almost no one who is interested enough in Klipsch to participate on this forum has ever bought home audio there. After 300 hits, I'm amazed not a single member has replied to say they bought main speakers from Best Buy." Have Best But sold Klipsch before?
