  1. The people answered your question... that's as cheap as you will get it. What more is there to say? Get the money and buy it. In addition in you stating to me about making useless posts, you should take a look at your content: you really should not give people advice in matters you have no experience in (in reference to your USB soundcard post)... do you own a external soundcard? no... how about PCI soundcards... you don't even know the difference between retail and OEM card... You suggest to people that corner loading the sub and facing it firing it to the room gives you the best bass response possible when this claim is proven to be false. You ask people about buying neons and hepa-filters and running your satellites without their dustcovers so you can show off your speakers to your little buddies. Don't tell me about the credibility of my posts.

  3. "his woofers rattling on their stands and port noise" That's exactly why I added a 15" DIY sub with a highpass filter on the Klipsch sub... you are proving the initial point of this threat... the subs are not all they are hyped up to be if you want to play them at house shaking volumes (which people like yourself claim... which the ProMedia sub will not provide). And for the record I was never attacking you... I just wanted to say that the sub is not all it's hyped up to be so that future buyers that are expecting HT style bass output to get this and be all disappointed. In addition I was wondering if these people that have this house-wrecking output to enlighten me on their setup.
  4. "I don't know WHY you would have your port facing the corner. The sound travels a lot better when directed into your room, believe me." That's a funny statement... why would you face the port into the room when the port is where the sound is the loudest. When you are corner loading a sub you are supposed to have the port hitting against a wall. I don't care what you "hear" or if I should "believe you" because you have "sensitive ears" but you will not get as big a gain if you are firing into the room.
  5. Yeah, it's a nice unit. Drops pretty low and can get decently loud at 50Hz+ But people on here are saying stuff like they can barely have the volume turned up past 1/3 and they sub is hurting their ears. I think that is kind of BS. I have this thing faced in the corner of the room with the port firing straight into the corner with one 6.5" sub on each side of the wall. That's the max gain you will get in my small 13' by 13' room. Even with this it's pretty good but nowhere near ear shattering levels. People are saying that it rattles windows... LOL! You must have some really loose windows because the most I can do with my setup is get my drywall to vibrate. I'm not putting down the subs... hell I've had these v2.400s for 3 years and they have been rocking as well as the day I bought them but I really think people shouldn't overhype the subwoofer.
  6. Another problem with connecting HT subs to PCs is that signal is compressed by the soundcard and butchered. The output voltage of the signal I bet is nowhere near as strong as a receiver even if you have a $300+ soundcard.
  7. I just got my sub connected to the .1 channel on my Live! Platinum... the problem though is when I enable the option for Surround Sound Decoding (the only way my HT sub will recognize the channel) my rear left and right channel get all echo and with reverb. You can't really hear it unless you are playing with some very vocal music. It's just pissing me off. I like to use the .1 jack because of the bass redirection and crossover on my PC. My sub box is too small... I should be using an 8CF box tuned to 18Hz to get like 120+db at that frequency. Instead I am losing like 11db at that freq with my alignment. For a 15" woofer the thing packs a punch and it actually sounds tighter than most 12" woofers I have heard. My next addition will be some Adire H281 monitors.
  8. Hey how is that 12" Infinity? Is that an HT sub? How did you go around wiring that thing up to you SC? I'm still having some issues with my soundcard and my 15" Tempest that I have hooked up.
  9. You use a "software crossover" through the Creative Surround Mixer... so that the soundcard only send certain frequencies to certain channels.
  10. I have a SoundBlaster Live! Platinum 5.1 soundcard. I have my ProMedia v2.400s hooked up like normal. The HT subwoofer is hooked up to the .1 jack on the soundcard. I used an 1/8" jack to RCA converter... then a Monster Cable Splitter to 6m of Monster Standard Cable RCA to the plate amplifier. In my Creative Sound Mixer I have it set up so that I have Bass Redirection enabled to the .1 channel. My crossover/bass redirection is set at 80Hz. The soundcard will redirect all bass to the .1 channel under 80Hz. The ProMedia system will do anything above 80Hz while ALL the bass under 80Hz is redirected to the Tempest. This way I can play the Promedia at EXTREME volumes without the port noise of the ProMedia sub because it isn't playing any real lows and the Tempest can pound out bass with authority. So much that I had my neighbour complain from next door.
  11. LOL! I built a sub built around a 15" Tempest and an AVA250 amp for my ProMedia v2.400s... really thumps and it only cost me $450US. 3CF box with an 0.8Q alignment gives it plenty of punch and the in room response is pretty good to around 25Hz (because it's a 13' by 13' room).
  12. Why? What is the point? That is the most ridiculous thing I have seen in my life. I BSed around with a salesman at Best Buy today about one of these Lifestyle systems. I asked him if he could crank it up... so he does... which playing and badly distorting the guy is yelling "Sounds pretty good doesn't it!". LOL! I swear my ProMedia v2.400 subwoofer drops lower and play more accurately than this.... Using 5.25" woofers is just ridiculous for a subwoofer. In addition those little satellites cannot be turned up very high before they sound harsh and metallic... I believe they use 2.5" drivers in those. Lastly, my buddy has a Bose system in his Maxima and he thinks it's the best stock system ever. He cranks up the bass and it is distorting very baddly muffling out the trebles. I'm just curious why so many people think highly of Bose when truly it sucks.
  13. Gonna do the plan for the Adire Monolith... just gotta order a couple of the PR15s. http://www.adireaudio.com/Files/Monolith.PDF This box seems to be around ~9CF net. The only difference with mine though is that I have only an AVA250... The other question is what is better? PRs or ported? My buddy told me that ports are louder than PRs. If this is true then could you take the size down to around 7CF with a low port tune?
  14. I don't really have a size limit... I just don't want a huge clunky sub if I don't really need to. Personally I think sonosubs look stupid. I'd be willing to build a bigger box for the Tempest though if I could get that earth shattering output. I also am thinking of maybe buying a Shiva and putting the Tempest in the car. What kind of box would make a Shiva do 20Hz output nicely with an AVA250 on it?
  15. By no means is my Tempest sub weak on the high end of the bass spectrum. I'm essentially upgrading from the Klipsch ProMedia v2.400 subwoofer so anything is better than that. It is suprisingly punchy and on point the whole time during fast segments of bass. The room I'm using it in is only like 13ft by 13ft so it definately has the power to shake the room but I'm not really hearing the REALLY LOW end. I was expecting the segment in Saving Private Ryan where the tanks are rolling in to be more low and rumbly as I heard on my buddies system who is running twin Velodyne HGS18s. Is there any way I can make a small sub that still has that earth-shaking 20Hz output? PRs, etc...
  16. Price to build it was: (Canadian Prices) SUB COSTS Adire Tempest - $240 (after tax & shipping) Adire AVA250 - $303 (after tax & shipping) 3/4" MDF - $25 #6 1 5/8" drywall screws - $2 Probond All-weather Exterior Wood Glue - $5 General Electric silicone caulk - $3 #10 1 5/8" machine bolts and T-nuts - $3 Two cans of Motomaster Truck Bedliner - $18 EQUIPMENT COSTS Drill bits - $10 Two packs of sandpaper - $7 TOTAL COST = $616CAD or $450US So this is my very first DIY project ever. First time I built sub a box too. So anyway the box is 2.8-2.9CF after sub displacement. It has a "window like" brace right in the middle on the inside. It is a sealed alignment. I didn't bother stuffing the box with anything. Sounds pretty good for the music I listen to (rap, hip-hop, jungle, techno and even rock). I'm just wondering what kind of subs could compare to my current woofer in it's alignment? I think I'm going to built a ported alignment with this subwoofer. About 5CF with 20Hz tuning. Do you think that would give me a huge gain in output over what I have now? This time I should be able to build the box in less than a couple of hours.
  17. I can't have the digital signal on because I don't have digital speakers (ProMedia v2.400s) and even if I did the only thing hooked up to the digital port is the sub. I have all the options set as they said in the manual. I figured how to redirect the bass to the sub but another problem has arisen now. To do so I used the creative playcenter and enables CMSS which is like a surround sound emulator. Now the sub is gettign the signal... one of the front channels sounds ok but the rear channel sounds like an echo. Any idea about this now? Thanks for the help guys.
  18. I just finished building a 3CF sealed 15" Tempest sub with an AVA250 amp. My soundcard is a Soundblaster Live! Platinum 5.1 I am running Klipsch ProMedia v2.400 from the main left and right channels on the soundcard. The connector I am using is a 1/8" to RCA converted to a Monster Standard splitter then that goes through to 6m of Monster Standart RCA cable and that goes through the amp. I know the wiring is not defective at all because I get the sub pounding with either one of the main left or right channels. I can't get any sound out of the .1 jack to go to the sub. I have "Bass Redirection" enabled in my SBLive! control panel and "Digital Decoding" is off. Don't really know what is wrong. How do I enable the analog output out of the .1 jack.
  19. I have 6m of Monster Standard Cable... I don't know what to get now. My soundcard is the SB Live! Platinum 5.1 My front L/R and rear L/R jacks are used by my Klipsch subwoofer. The only other free output jack is the digital out. Is that the center channel... can that be hooked up to my amp (Adire AVA250)? Otherwise what would I have to do?
  20. Ok... so the answer is unanimous... brace it! Now how would I go about bracing it. Also to theEAR: What kind of acoustic material should I use and how would I apply it? Wouldn't it be a fire hazard with the back of the amplifier touching the sound deadening material. (I just got the AVA250 today, btw)...
  21. I currently have a Adire Tempest sitting here... I am almost done a 18"*18"*19" box sealed (about 3cu ft). It's pretty much a cube. Can I get away without bracing it since it's a cube? I plan on stuffing it with polyfill and all that... The amp that I should get tommorow (Tuesday) is an Adire AVA250.
  22. There are two dealers of Paradigm in my area (Edmonton Alberta). One sells it for $1100. The other sells it for $980. Is there any places where people got theirs for cheaper in Canada (I want to avoid over the border fees)?
  23. Which of the following woofers is probably the best value for your dollar? My father wants to get a professionally finished woofer for the living room downstairs. He was looking at these two drivers as they are in the similiar price range. Adire Rava for $636.00 -> $707 after shipping and taxes or Paradigm PS-1200 for $690 -> $738 after taxes (available locally) My dad is very hesitant to buy a Rava because he has never actually heard one. He listens to about the same amount of music and HT so he doesn't really know how it will perform in each situation. Is the Rava a decent sub? He heard the PS-1200 and he said he absolutely loved it for HT. However for music he said it was a big laggy/boomy. Of these two subwoofers which is the better one?
  24. Yeah... I will probably end up doing that... for now. I understand that the response curve will be kind of crappy. The Tempest will be able to do the extreme lows while the ProMedia satellites will do the mids to highs. There will probably be a gap in the sound originally where Tempest ends to where the v2.400 subwoofer crosses over to the satellites. Is there anything that can be done to remedy this? I plan on getting some towers a little later in a couple of months. But I will try to make due with what I have at the moment.
