  1. Craig,

I just want you to know that if I didn't like the sound of my 299A I'd tell you, & I'd still feel comfortable asking you into the house. The addition of Telefunkens made it sound more forward to me, & I like that sound with the forward sound of the Khorns & LaS.

If I found fault with your build quality in the Bogen you rebuilt for me, you'd hear that, too. As a customer, I paid for the right to have you listen to my complaints. Just because I haven't complained, doesn't mean that I won't. It does mean that I haven't.

You've gotten honest responses in our conversations about my 2A3 monoblocks and multi=channel Marantz, and I think your new amp looks sweet & its versatility is a big selling point.

  2. Craig,

No doubt, you can answer your own question-Yes. I'm just surprised that the difference is so audible. I'm not sure how much the new cans have to do with it, but it's much improved. You'd had to have heard it before to discern, but it's obvious to me.

On the backplate- A three-sided would be more rigid with a top & back plate that is one piece.

  3. Craig,

Looks sweet. Interesting options. Rick's suggestion was a good one about the backplate. I think Ryan's about the chrome was, too. Not getting much fresh air these days, huh?

BTW, you were absolutely right about the improvement of the 299A with the transformer replaced. It's good to have it home.

  4. Kelly,

With the AVVT 2A3 tubes, I'm still awed by these amps. Rock, jazz, blues & some classical are my steady diet. I listen to my 299A,& Marantz for multi-channel SACD daily, too. The detail of the Dionysus monoblocks is jawdroppingly descriminating. Jeff advised me of the AVVT, & told me that they would take the amps to another level. It was a lot like getting Nagler lenses for my Celestron C8 telescope. For the first time, I clearly saw the shadows of the craters on the moon. Music is palpable through these amps. Jeff knew when he put them up for sale he'd be kicking himself. I hope his PP project turns out even better.

  5. No doubt, get a pr of LaS. They are plentiful & reasonably priced used.I recently bought a second pr for $800. Greg can fix you up with a nicely finished pr for less than you'd spend for the same quality finish. Many of us also opt for the ALK crossovers, which he posted that he can install for you. I'd at least give him a call & check out the possibilities.

    Welcome to the forum.

  6. Like some others, I have grown tired of plugging & unplugging speaker cables into several different amps. The switch boxes I have found have small wire size limitations & no RCA plugs. Does anyone know of a source for a single pole, triple throw switch that I could use to build my own 3 source, 1 speaker pr outlet box with RCA connections?
