  1. So, my choices are the M-Audio Sonica Theater - 7.1 - USB for $119 http://www.midiman.net/products/consumer/sonicaTheatre_page1.php Or Soundblaster Extigy - 5.1 - USB for $150 http://www.soundblaster.com/products/extigy/ Without seeing any reviews of it yet, it sounds pretty close. I like how the extigy has a remote control, but the 7.1 definatly leaves room to grow
  2. Umm.. Doesn't the Audigy 2 PLATINUM eX still require a PCI slot? That's not really an option on a laptop. Is there anything besides the Extigy? It's use of USB 1.1 really leaves bandwidth to be desired..
  3. Ok, I'm buying a Fujitsu N3010 Lifebook Laptop as my main machine for college. I'm going to use it for gaming/music, all that good stuff. Obviously, it has poor integrated AC97 audio. I want to find a good external USB Sound card to take advantage of my 4.1's and be ready to expand to 5.1 someday. Am I limited to just USB or are there any PCMCIA solutions? And what sound card do you recommend? Thanks!
  4. 2 Questions: What's the best way to place the subwoofer to hear maximum bass? I have a square room with the subwoofer in the top left corner N ________ I* I I I E I_______I On an L shaped desk in the corner facing North. The sub is sitting on a 45 degree angle in the corner with the port facing SE.. Also, I want to remove the control pod from the front right speaker to allow closer control. I heard that there are screws holding it in, but I must be blind beecause I don't see how it's attached..
  5. I leave my surround at around 12:00, any thing higher gives me clipping on the rear tweeters at high volumes (Should I get this checked out?)
  6. I'll jump in here and post my problem.. On loud music, if I have my Surround speakers all the way up along with my fronts, It sounds like my rear left satellite is clipping, I also get a very minute amount of clipping through the rear right satellite. This, along with my speaker mounts vibrating (weren't tightened to well) really degrade my sound quality at high volumes. Could the tweeter possibly be blown?
  7. Yes, It seems like all the speakers are sheilded, but the control pod is not. Normally a cellphone will cause all kind of noise in a speaker system of almost any kind, with my promedia's, I hear nothing, even holding the phone next to the speakers, The only time I hear hiss from a phone is on the Front Right with the control pod, in which I hear the hiss on all the speakers (so, it's the output of the control pod) Also, yes both my front speakers are on either side of my 2 moniters, and they do shake quite a bit with REALLY loud music..(Not to mention that it draws so much current that my lights dim just a bit when the bass hits) Looks like I've got this 20A circuit just about maxed...
  8. I have a question for everyone. Based on this article: http://forums.klipsch.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=29994 It leads me to belive that you can power an secondary subwoofer off of the current subwoofer. Is this true? or is this just running the two subwoofers in parrallel, effecivly splitting the 130W between them? I have a subwoofer from an old labtec set of speakers I just blew =X, It works fine, but the amp's blown. So I could wire up the two subs together (although, the old sub might actually hurt SQ, I'd have to see)
  9. There are a few ways to do this. If your current home theatre is only in stereo, you need a rca/mini-plug adapter into your soundcard line in, which will give you quadrophonic stereo sound, Or if your home theatre offers 4 channel output (unlikey) you can connect it to each of the 2 mini-plug connectors. If you only want the sub, you can connect in one of these fashions and unplug the satellites.
  10. I'm about to pick up a pair myself from Circuit city, exact same deal. As soon as I get paid (Please soon!!) I have about $75, just waiting for another one for about $120 and I'm getting my ProMedia's
  11. I'm wondering how everyone normally sets their volume levels on their PC and on the speakers. I have a 4 channel SB Live! card I normally leave wave and main volume on the PC at 100% and just control the volume to my liking on the speaker control. Is this not the optimal way to set it? as in the high volume in the software mixer could introduce distortion into my volume? I figure the highest software volume gives the best signal/noise ratio
  12. Here's how I did it: I have a cheap 13" TV.. no audio output I have an old VCR of my grandparents that has stereo RCA's in and out, so I just used the RCA line out and used an RCA-1/8" adapter and plugged it in to the line in of my SB Live! Granted that I don't have klipsch promedia's (yet) I have a cheap $70 laptec set that I just killed (accidently switched polarity going to amp, doh!) But this system works great!
