  1. This from an Audiogon page. "Valve Art KT100 look similar to the KT88, but it is not an uprated version of the KT88 contrary to popular belief. The shape of the glass for the KT100 is much bigger and heavier than the KT88 and the internal structure is entirely different. The voltage peak is around 600V, if your amp has a big enough transformer you can crank it into a class A with the KT100. Please check with your amp manufacturer before doing anything." http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?accstube&1083782986 Anyone know anything about these tubes or have used them in Dynaco Mark III's or any other tube amp?
  2. Belive me, I was not even contemplating buying them. I just posted the link for everyone's info. Klipsh indeed! Mike

    Denon

Tenn: Are you aware that the Denon avr 3805 is about to come out with the same retail price as the 3803? I have been considering the 3803 and now will go for the 3805, even though it will not be as discounted as the 3803. I have seen pre-orders for it for $995. It has 120 watts and have auto setup and eq and front a/v jacks which I need. Best of luck Mike
  5. I just went to the Ultimate Electronics website and the have the Pioneer 563SA for 139.95. Might be a good time to jump on it. Mike
  6. OF COURSE I MEANT MarK III's, NOT MARK II"S as my poor tying once again failed me. Mike
  7. Well, at last count I had about 4500 LP's, so yes, I will be listening to a lot of LP's. I am not sure whether I will moderize the Mark II's. Aas a matter of fact I have one playing as one side of my system and my Dynaco St 70 as the other, and frankly I can not hear any difference. Niether in tone or loudess. They both sound just as loud when I crank it up and use the balance to A/B them Should'nt the MArk II's be louder? I may not keep them if there realy is not difference in loudness. HELPPPPP! Mike
  8. Has anyone had any experience with Dynaco Mark III's with a McIntosh C22 preamp? Do you have to spend the money that it takes to get a Mac or will a Scott LC-21 or 130 do, as some on the Forum have said? There is a big price difference. Can you hear the difference? Thanks for any info. Mike Sorry for the double post, but I miss typed Mark II's in the first one. I meant Mark III's
  9. I miss typed the Subjest and shoule be MARK III's not MARK II's I am going to s6tart a new thread with the correction. Sorry! Mike

  11. Today, March 9, 2004 would have been Paul Wilbur Klipsch's 100Th Birthday. I say we all take a moment to salute the man, who is responsible for us all being here! Best, Mike

  13. Thanks for all the replies. Craig I will be getting in touch to learm more about the possible upgradees. I am looking at a McIntosh C22 for a preamp. How would that match to an upgraded ST 70? Also, I have heard that one can just change models of EL 34 or different tubes altogether in the ST 70 for a different sound. Is there any truth to this. Thanks Again, Mike
  14. Yes it was Yamaha 1060. The description did not say anything about what kind of instruments, so thanks for the tip. I guess I will try the alchohol trick, but the person that posted it was vague about the application process. Dio you have any guidance as to how and how long it should be applied. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Again, Mike
  15. Sounds like a good approach, but I am still wiondering if anyone has had experience with the Yamaha Lacquer Polish? Thanks Mike
  16. O.K., I have been listening to the KLF 30's which I just got, with my Dynaco ST 70 for the last week, and I think I realize that I have to upgrade the Dynaco to keep up with the KLF 30's. It just does not put out enough punch and power for the KLF 30's. I might add, that in lieu of not having a tube preamp yet I have been using a 70's Marantz 4270 Receiver for a preamp. This adds some volume and punch, but the clarity at loud volume is not there that I expect out of the 30's and the overall sound and soundstage is not jaw-dropping by any means. When I run it diect, it is even thinner. I have a Dynaco CDV-1 Tube CD player if that helps as well. My question is: What modification route should I take. There seems so many different modification schemes out there to choose from, how does one know twe best one for his situation. The Curcio, Van Alstine, Audio Research, Welborne to name just a few,it just goes on and on, and a layman like me needs some direction as to what would be the best. I want to be sure before I go and let my ST 70 be torn up. It is pretty much all original, cloth leads, etc, and I would not want to sacrifice its purity without great consideration and learned opinions about what direction to go. Hope you can help!! Best, Mike
  17. Hello: I found a product for Musical Instruments to remove water statins called "Yamaha Lacquer Polish". Does anyone have any experience with this product? I want to remove a water stain from a Lacquer finish on a KLF 30. The stain is just about 1/2 a shade darker than the medium oak finish and is only barely noticeable. It is about eight inches long, and 4 inches wide. You really have to look close to see it, but it just bugs me and if there is anything that I can do to remove or lighten it I would appreciate it. I just do not want to put something on it that will make it worse. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Mike

  19. Well, now you guys have me thinking about the McIntosh C22 versus the Marantz 7C Preamp. I know that I like the +/- 20 db adjustment for the bass and treble on the C22. What is the bass and treble adjustment on the Marantz. Should I have my Dynaco ST 70 upgraded to modern standads? Will that improve the sound suffiecently to drive the KLF 30's OK? Modern tube preamps do not have have any tone controls, that I know of. Are there any that do? I have to have a way to boost bass and treble. I am just used to listening this way and am too old to change now. I have been listening to the KLF 30's completely flat with just the ST 70 and I really need to have tone controls. Should I junk the tube route completely and go all solid state? Will that maximize the KLF 30's. I really like the warmth ofthe Tube sound though and would like to stick with tubes. HELP!!! I am so confused at this point. Thanks Again Mike
  20. Dave: Do you mean that you are selling a McIntosh C22? If you are how much are you asking? Do you think if I get the C22 for $1500.00 and upgrade the ST 70, I will havve a good sounding system? Thanks Mike
  21. Hello SAAgain All: I have a chance to get an original C22 for $1500.00 including shipping and insurance. Should I go for it? Do the things that were updated really make a difference? Does the output of the original limit me to cery\tain amps, as one member stated. I have an unmodified Dynaco ST 70, that I plan to use with it. Is that the right kind of amp? Which modern tube amps could I use if I find that I do not like the sound of the Dynaco with the C22. Sorry for all the questions, but it is a big investment. Thanks Mike
  22. Gentlemen: Thanks for the inmput and opinions. I probably want to go with the older configuration, since I do listen to a lot of old LP'S. I am interested also, in the fact that the bass and treble controls are +/- 20 db, since I like a lot of leeway in the tone controls. That is why I have ruled out most modern preamps, since they do not have tone controls. The McIntosh 220 only has a +/-12 db for bass and treble. I am also considering an Eico St 84 or HF 85 and a Scott 130. It really depends on price and availability, but to me it is like McIntosh had contact with the Roswell Aliens or something. Their preamps from about the same time seem like they were functioning on a higher level of technologhy than anyone else. I know you pay a price for it, but if all you guys agree that the McIntosh is superior, I will probably play and waiting and hoping game to get my hands on an original C22, unless a reissue comes along art a bargain. What does anyone think a fair price for either the original or the reissue. Best, Mike
  23. Sorry, did not mean to be impatient Will wait quietly. Thanks
  24. No one has any opinions? here's hoping for help. Thanks Mike
  25. Does anyone have any experience with the difference between the original McIntosh C22 preamp and the '90's reissue. I know that there are different tubes in the reissue. Why did they do that? Does that effect the sound, and if so, which do any of you prefer? Thanks Mike
