  1. @CanadianAndy Check the audio output format on the TV. If you see the Dolby Digital light on the soundbar when watching Netflix then the TV is set correctly to output Dolby Digital. Does the TV output still show Dolby Digital when watching a Blu-ray movie? I doubt it, otherwise the Dolby Digital light on the soundbar would be illuminated so either the Blu-ray player is not sending Dolby Digital to the TV or HDCP is preventing the TV from sending it to your soundbar. If that is the case, you may still be able to listen to your Blu-ray movies in surround sound if you can connect the Blu-ray player directly to the BAR 48 using a digital optical cable (assuming your Blu-ray player has a digital optical output.) You won't get any sound from the Surround 3 speakers unless the ((SUR)) light on the soundbar is illuminated.
  2. @CanadianAndy If the Dolby Digital (or DTS) light is not on, you are not getting surround sound from the source. If it is on, you might be getting 5.1 surround sound from the source but you could just be getting stereo or even mono sound. If the Dolby Digital (or DTS) light is not on and the BAR 48 has to simulate surround sound, the sound level from the surround speakers will be barely audible. I don't know if this is how it is supposed to work but this is how it works on my system.
  3. Melting735, my Surround 3 speakers volume is too low, also. I've exchanged with new replacements both the S3 speakers and the BAR 48, updated to current firmware v23 (12/13/2019), adjusted the "Surround" volume, twiddled with the HDMI input, the Optical input and the Bluetooth inputs. The S3 speakers are always too low in volume. I waited 24 days for a ridiculous response from Klipsch technical support and was told to update the firmware. I replied they need to fix their product. I've posted about it here:
  4. @Melting735 Are the ((SUR)) and Dolby Digital lights on the BAR 48 illuminated?
  5. Melting735: From recent data on Klipsch's support page, BAR 48's starting with S/N: 106655719280001 appear to be the most reliable models (they have the newer PCB's and 2.4Ghz wireless feature which fixed the sub-woofer pairing problem). Many sellers still have older, defective models in their inventory so I would recommend checking the S/N of any replacement/exchange models before walking out of the store. These modules have been through several revisions so try and get the latest model and then be sure and update it with the correct firmware file before use (because they all shipped out BEFORE the recent firmware updates could be applied).
  6. @CanadianAndy If you were getting any sound from the Surround 3 speakers the BAR 48 must have had the ((SUR)) light on. 🙂 Did you verify that the Dolby Digital light was also on? It would need to be if your source was sending 5.1 surround sound to your soundbar. To get surround sound from your TV you have to ensure the TV sound output format is set to Dolby Digital and not PCM.
  7. FYI, this is with my BAR 48 which has firmware v23 (dated 12/13/2019).
  8. @DaleG in my BAR 48 Surround Button post I included the pages from the manual that describe how to increase the volume of the surround speakers. As usual, the instructions are incomplete. The diagram shows there the surround volume can be increased to +8 or decreased to -8 from the neutral setting. To increase the volume on my speakers I had to press the volume up about 28 times to get to the +8 level as the original setting appeared to be around -6. Holding the volume up button didn't seem to work! The other thing to consider is your source: What is it? How do you know there is rear channel content? If you are listening to YouTube, I believe it only provides stereo output regardless what the video description might say.
  9. I installed the latest BAR 48 firmware v23 (dated 12/13/19) two days ago (12/18/2019) from klipsch.com/firmware and have had no problems.
  10. In fact, Klipsch does appear to finally have read their email and realized that they uploaded one or more defective firmware files. The one that I had trouble with was only 1/3 the file size it was suppose to be and locked up my system (IOW: they forgot to add all of the data to it) and has since been removed by them. They uploaded a new firmware file dated Nov 29th to replace it which has the correct file size to imply it is complete (though that does not mean it will work). If you did input the correct serial number and had a failure with the 12/13 dated defective firmware file, it is worth deleting that file and downloading and installing the new replacement file, backdated to November. Note: this only applies to you if you had one of the defective firmware files. Some of the units use an updated firmware file which is also dated Dec 13th which is NOT effected by this. These files are serial number dependent. If in doubt, re-check the support site's firmware download page to see which file they are currently showing for YOUR system. It may or may not have changed. Maybe that will fix some of the issues many of us are having ??? In the meantime, I received my replacement BAR 48 with the 2.4GHz wireless connection and will certainly have to install the appropriate newly updated firmware on it when I get home to see if that one works and solves the un-plug/re-plug issue with the wireless sub woofer pairing lost.
  11. Yes, I had the same issue (search past threads). The only way I could restore function to the BAR 48 was to load the previous revision of firmware's batch file (one that works) onto the USB drive and reload. It reloaded w/o any issues and got me back to where I was before the "latest" firmware locked it up. Important: Please double check you uploaded the correct firmware version for your specific serial number. *This is a known issue.
  12. This YouTube video explains the process much better: Klipsch Bar 48 Firmware Update
  13. Klipsch has different versions of firmware available for the different ranges of BAR 48 production units (by serial number). You have a newer module with the 2.4GHz wireless signal feature vs the older ones which do not have that. They have changed the modules a few times during production so different software for the hardware is needed to update them ("firmware"). Sometimes the soundbars are defective so no version of firmware will fix them. Other times, it will. In any case, it is important that you load the correct revision for your unit (i.e. V23 or V83).
  14. Klipsch posted a firmware update on Dec 13th, which is supposed to address that problem. You can download the firmware on their support page (BAR 48 Firmware).
  15. After receiving my BAR 48, I had the exact same problem (and so do many, many others...). Works great, as long as you unplug, wait for the blue LED to go out, re-plug the sub back in.... until the soundbar powers down again (or stops receiving an audio signal). *At turn-on, you can even see the Soundbar communicate with the sub properly. The sub turns on, just like it should, the sub's blue LED goes from flashing to steady, indicating proper pairing, but no sound will be heard from the sub unless manually unplug/re-plug it in (every single time). VERY ANNOYING. I did upload the Version 2 firmware, as requested by Tech support, and the firmware update went smoothly, but it made absolutely no difference in fixing the unplug/plug-in subwoofer issue (loss of pairing).
  16. I bought the BAR 48 (3.1 channels) a few weeks ago. It has several input types. The inputs I've used are the Optical In and the HDMI In. Both worked fine connecting to my LG TV (I had to futz around to get the optical cable fully seated at both ends and set the LG TV to the "internal speakers plus optical out". The HDMI is easy, no problems setting it up). FYI, I bought the Surround 3 speakers to make it 5.1 channels, but the volume on these speakers is a whisper - I'm still waiting to hear back from Klipsch support. If that doesn't work, I'm going to exchange them for a new pair (I bought them on Amazon).
