Insulating a sub box...?

With as much as I have read on sub owners opening up and insulating their boxes, i'm wondering if there is any benefit to doing so.
Adding styrofoam, polyfill, etc.; is this a good thing?
What does it do the the dynamics of the enclosure? Thanks.f>

I if am thinking straight, it will give go down in hz just a little but far as loudness you will not be able to tell a diference. Normally ported sub boxes are louder than the sealed ones, and the sealed ones are suspose to be more of a tight and more responsive bass. (quicker)
