scooter_nate
Hey gents, Have my system all up and running with the heresy II's and I am getting crackling on the right channel. At first thought it might be the speaker ie caps. (don't know how to if the caps need replacing speaker date is 86). Switched speakers around and the same thing left good right bad. I am using a Thorens Td 126 with a Marantz 2240 took the caseing off the Marantz looked at the soldering on the binding post it all looks good hooked back up same problem. I turned it up louder speaker worked good then started again. WTF getting a little pissy now I have no clue where to look, is it something serious or could it be something as simple as dust in the volume control. Appreciate your input Nate
Dennie
Hey Nate, Does moving the volume or balance control have any affect the "distortion"? You might want to try some of this: CaiLubeMCL is a precision lubricant for moving contact surfaces. Ideal for usewith faders, switches, potentiometers, and other mechanisms withsliding surfaces. Maintains optimum signal quality and reduces wear andabrasion. It replenishes lubrication lost on surfaces that have beencleaned with solvents or other cleaning solutions. Formulated forconductive plastics and carbon based controls. CaiLube MCL, 5 oz.Spray: Provides light 5% coating of CaiLube MCL liquid. Petroleumnaphtha carrier solvent used to flush away dust, dirt, andcontamination. Here's a Linky! ------------>CLICK HERE
Dennie
Is the cartridge on the TT OK? Can you use a different source? Like a CD player or DVD player? Are your connectors good everywhere? Is there a frayed speaker wire somewhere?
scooter_nate
Thanks Dennie Yes it makes a difference using the volume control it seems to be better the louder I go, its really bad at low volume. Also I tried it with the radio, DVD, and using different speaker wire with the same effect. Maybe I do need that lube, would I have to gut the receiver to apply it? Nate
Dennie
Sorry Nate, this thread went right past me! The "lube" should come with a little tube, like WD-40. You should be able to pull the knob off and spray it into the volume/balance control while twisting the control. I am sure there are people who can better answer this question, but..........they must be busy! I hope this helps, Dennie
