Paragon
Thought I would help some of you out. I did some exploring with my ACS295 and in order to hook up a 2.1 as center , you need to: 1] Make the center/sub output got to both channels 2] Make sure Bass Redirection is not selected 3] Make sure Digital output is not selected 4] With this setup, select Digital output in your WinDVD or PowerDVD program I am not sure how good the Bass from the 2.1 will be - not as good as with BassRedirection selected but then you would hear the front/rears through your center channel. NOTE: The 2.1 for a 6.2 setup will probably not get as much bass sent to it as it is meant to and the sub will be somewhat useless - you will be using your 2.1 for its sats. With this, the best thing would be to have a seperate center and sub - both powered and the sub having a crossover and then select BassRedirection. You would have to split the center/sub out into 2 mono connectors. With BR selected, the LFE signal will be sent to both the sub and the front/rears ~This is with my experimenting with SBLive 5.1 and ACS295~ ------------------ All Your Base Are Belong To Us ------------------------------------- 1GHz TBird Abit KT7A-RAID FOP38 & CuShim Kingmax 256MB PC150 Annihilator2 32MB GTS Intel Pro100+Management NIC Promise Ultra100 IBM 75GXP 45GB ATA100 & Maxtor DMP6800 27.2GB ATA66 Plextor 16X10X40A Sony 12X DVD SBLive! 5.1 AOpen HX08 Full Tower 300W Sony CPD-G400 19" Triny Pro 4.1 are comin!!!!!!!! qball
Here's a copy of a post that I had in another thread that didn't get any replies: quote: I have been thinking about the details of the 6.2 setup and I haven't reached any perfect setup in my mind yet. Here are my thoughts: In all cases switch your LR speakers with the improved ones from the 2.1 set. Keep your standard 4.1 setup as it would be normally setup, add the 2.1 setup as Dan described. This may introduce an interference pattern in the room for the center channel as you have 2 identical mono sources. I don't feel like breaking out my waves/optics textbook and going through the equations, at the moment, but it could be an issue depending on the setup. Additionally, you have 2 subwoofers, but one of them is dedicated to the center channel + LFE, which essentially means that it is wasted for everything that doesn't have 5.1 encoding. You can fix the first problem by using only one speaker for your center channel. The problem now is that your center channel is very much underpowered because you have 4x 60W for everything else, and only 35W for the center. This probably won't be an issue unless you're cranking it, however. If you can bridge the amp on the 2.1 then you could get 70W out of it, which seems pretty good to me. I'm not sure whether the 2.1 amp would like to be bridged or not, someone who knows the design would have to comment on that. Now there's still the issue of the subwoofer. Personally, I'd be of the opinion that you should be able to share subwoofers somehow so that you can use both all the time. Or perhaps you could set it up so that you have a front and rear subwoofers ala the 4.2 setup, or right/left setup that might be worth considering. With this costing $200 I was also thinking it might be possible to get a 60-100W mono amp and the center speaker for the quintets and perhaps get better results for about the same price. I dunno, it's a toss up. Any thoughts? -Q
Paragon
Ah.. sorry, I didn't see that. The thing with the Quint center, is that it also has 2 Drivers and it is also meant for a HTS so not meant to be that close. I will be happy with the 4 speaker setup and the wonderful Imaginary center. I could see using the Quint center at greater distances, but ya might be better just getting a regular Quint sat <100W max> and ampin that. The close proximity is going to be the big problem with a 5.1/6.2 setup ------------------ All Your Base Are Belong To Us ------------------------------------- 1GHz TBird Abit KT7A-RAID FOP38 & CuShim Kingmax 256MB PC150 Annihilator2 32MB GTS Intel Pro100+Management NIC Promise Ultra100 IBM 75GXP 45GB ATA100 & Maxtor DMP6800 27.2GB ATA66 Plextor 16X10X40A Sony 12X DVD SBLive! 5.1 AOpen HX08 Full Tower 300W Sony CPD-G400 19" Triny Pro 4.1 are comin!!!!!!!! Paragon
Listen to Metallica - One.. on 2 front channels - if you close your eyes, you can imagine the helecopter going from left to center to right with no problem.. Michael Jackson - Thriller and Men At Work - Dr. Heckyll Mr. Jive also have good left to right footsteps I think the center channel is mostly used for dialogue in movies so I am not worried about it
