MikenTX
I was given a new Yamaha amp and was looking at setting it up. Problem is I cant set it to the speakers I have. I use a set of KG4s for A&B mains, C1 center, and a set of Polks as rears. According to Yamaha I cant do this. 1) How important is getting the impedance set right? 2) Can the speaker impendance be changed?
Michael Greenway
What is the nominal impedance of your Polks? Are you running more than a pair of front speakers? If you have just one pair on front then there should not be a problem using the Yamaha.
Steve Phillips
I have an older MX-630 2 channel and asked Yamaha if it would handle a 2 ohm load. They said NO!. Well it was used to drive my 2 4 ohm subs and had been doing that for 4 years with no problem. I ran both subs on one channle (2ohm)and the center bi-wired 4 ohm on the other using A&B speaker outs. did fine and never got hot even after two action movies. I decided there were no benefits from doing this and stopped. I wouldn't load anymore than 4 ohms one anyone channel. 2)I don't think so,not easily anyway or worth the effort. Just my opinion I'm guessing it's a 5 channel reciever, but need more info on the KG4s.I remember them being produced 6 and 8 ohm and maybe 4 ohm. What are yours?Yamaha I would assume is being careful. Make sure it's well ventilated and it should do fine.Yamaha in the past has done well with lower than 8 ohm loads. But don't take my word for it,better safe............ MikenTX
Polks and Center are 8 ohms .... KG4s are 4 ohms. I have been running two sets of KG4s. One on A and one on B. My Yamaha does not offer this combination.
