-BC-
so im getting my first amp today and i need some good advise on the type of cables i should use for the cleanest sound possible. should i connect my receiver to my amp with just a plain rca cable or with a xlr/rca cable? im thinkin that the xlr might be better but id like to hear what you have to say...... Don Richard
If your receiver has an XLR output and your amp can take XLR, go that way. The balanced connection is more immune to noise and XLR has latches to prevent accidental disconnects. If your receiver has only RCA and your amp has both, I would stick to RCA. The advantages of the balanced hookup are lost unless both are balanced and you may wind up with more noise as a result.
