Dishnetwork 6000 model HDTV receiver

I live a double life one in analog 2 channel and one in HT. I have been a 2 channel lover as long as I rememeber, but the technology of HT, sattelite and HDTV is a great hobby I have pursued for the past 6 years.

Through the conveneience of 12 month 0 % financing I decided to go for it. Just paid wifes car off. Toshiba 36 inch direct view HDTV, Panasonic RP 91 and the Dish 6000.

The Dish receiver 6000 I also loaded with the "8VSB" card wich allows one to access local over the air HDTV broadcasts.

I watched some PBS and "The Practice" today; it is real strange to get DD and an awesome picture over the air with a simple $40 Radio Shack indoor powered antenna.

My wife got to pick out the TV and she really liked the Toshiba. I am sure most 36 inch direct view TV s are very pleasing compared to any analog TV one has become accustomed to.

It will be another 10 days to get the other dish installed on my roof and the very expensive "64 switch"(delivered for $ 160, the "8VSB" card was only $140); which allows one to automatically switch to the satellites that carry the HDTV channels.

Set up was a little clumsy but the sound(optical DD) and picture quality are at least equiviliant to the best THX certified DVDs I have watched.

If posters are interested, I will write some periodic updates on my experiences; I find HDTV to be an interesting developing technology.

Couple of brief updates...

1. Prologic sounds better than the old receiver.

2. PBS is my best over air channel and the picture quality remains awsome.

3. Still have not bought and installed the new dish and switch to get all the Hi Def channels from Dish Network.

4. James Bond on ABC HDTV tonight and last Saturday look awsome. Roger Moore though.

5. NCAA basketball looked pretty good.

6. I am researching outdoor antennas. The more things change the more they remain the same. A roof antenna; I would have never beleived 5 years ago.

In the last 3 days I have noticed some little "Pond Ripple" lines in the very white bright areas of the HDTV terrestrail signals from all stations.

I cannot reproduce the phenomena through the Sattellite signal or DVD.

The indoor 10 year old Radio Shack powered antenna is the source still.

I am putting in an order for an outdoor Terk antenna and will switch the component video cable to see if I can effect a change.

The picture is still awesome but it is a strange artifact.

I do not debug video as well as I do audio.

got home at 5:30 and got to it. put up 2nd 18" dish (for 61.5 orbital slot hd satellite), replaced 2-dual lnb's on dish500 w/1-'quad lnb'(provides both 110 and 119 orbital slot satellite channels through each of 4 outputs). replaced model 7200 (put in 2nd bedroom after i ran new cable) w/model 6k. hooked 7200 into output from 'quad lnb',all o.k.. tied in 61.5 w/ 1 output from quad w/s-21 switch giving me 3 satellite positions' channels on model 6k. hooked up to sony hd 36"tv...BAM!! h b o hd,s h o hd, 24hr-a-day ppv channel, and the rather cool hd demo channel. installing local antenna for hd digital over-the-air broadcasts on wednesday. will follow up.
