Timar Posted May 20, 2010 Share Posted May 20, 2010 While the Image S2/X1 are phantastic IEMs for their price, the clarity of high frequencies on them isn't quite comparable to the S4 or even the BA driven X5/10. This, I think, is due to the impedance mismatch between the tiny dynamic driver and the eardrum, which is the cause for some distortion. However, such effects can be limited by inserting an acoustic damper between the driver and the eardrum. I took a very small amount of synthetic batting, and made a 5mm long roll fitting the diameter of the S2's tube. It's easy to remove with some tweezers and is an additional protection against ear wax. The damper caused some loss of HF (of course), which I compensated for using the treble setting of my MP3 player. It made the heighs considerably clearer for me.
