InVeNtOr
i have an UMC-1 and i am making my own RCA cables. the issue i have is, the rca's i purchased are quite big. they are the locking type and have a large outer diameter. when i plug all 7 rca's in the umc-1, they all touch. will that be an issue? i don't remember any rca's that i have ever owned touching before. i still haven't even pushed the power butten yet on that umc-1 or even had a power cord pluged in. thanks for the help,
garymd
All the RCAs (left and right/top and bottom) in my old Scott amps touch because they just didn't space them very far apart in the old days. The only problem I encounter is when this causes the inside of the jacks to touch (inside the unit - not sure what the technical term for that part of the jack is) and then it's a matter of one or both channels cutting out. Nothing ever blows up if that's your worry. As long as there's no movement inside the unit, I don't think you should have a problem. The shielding should be more than adequate on the cable ends. That's my experience anyway. You might want to wait for someone who actually knows what they're talking about.
InVeNtOr
well for the most part that is what i have been reading. the only other suggestion i have read is putting electrical tape on them. i have teflon tape, so thats what i'll use. what i don't like about them being close is, it's hard to tighten them down. sucks the one feature i really wanted is causing the issues.
