Hi forum

I have a 52" lcd that looks great but sounds aweful! I have been looking at a HD theatre 500 or quintet or something to help. The thing is we don't really watch our blu ray player much anymore since my son was born a year ago (though I guess some day we will) and we also don't listen to music on it (every now and then we put it on one of the music channels on the cable). We usually just watch regular TV - american idol, lots of football games, lots of barney (good lord will he ever grow out of barney).

Anyway looking to spend under 1k for receiver and speakers and wondering if I should buy lower end htib or just start w two fronts and an center with mind to expand later on or what ... I had a bose 3.2.1 a while back and didn't like it much. It sounded ok i guess but when we watched moves we cold never hear dialog...

any advice would be appreciated.

eta: the room in our new house this will go in is approx 12 x 20

Id say, start with your local craigslist, you can get alot of great deals on there for klipsch speakers both heritage and brand new. This is the best way to get the best bang for your buck. I got the RF-10 surround system and denon receiver for 400bux and in pretty much pristine condition. What i can suggest you do is invest in a decent receive, something with HDMI ports and some update video processing. The klipsch quintet is a great set, although it doesnt come with a sub, it will need it since there is no low end on those speakers, they will however be better than the tv 100 fold. The hd 500 is a great little set too, that will blow away your tv speakers but then again almost anything will. I think it will be a good place for you to start, you can get a good receiver for 400 and they will be able to power the sattelites without an issue. This is of course you go the full retail route, but like i said, craigslist will get you your bang for your buck if you dont mind some used equipment. Also remeber, people that buy klipsch tend to take care of them, always be warey though!

man welcome to the forum you have found the best place to look for klipsch gear. Most of us are your everyday regular joes. So we shop around a lot. Craigslist is a great resouce if you know what you are looking for. Don't be worried about buying older klipsch gear, klipsch speakers if not abused hold up very well I would have to say 10 to 15 years easy. Don't forget the garage sale forum is a great way to meet people and get an idea of what people are selling. Also a good idea if you know what you are looking for you can place a WTB or want to buy and normally a forum member will reply to this in a couple of weeks. if you have any questions please feel free to email me anytime.

Welcome, the best thing I could tell you is to not do anything right away, get some ideas about what you want by looking at all the models and get an idea what you can afford and what size you want. If you take your time you will be happier in the long run with better speakers.

You can get an idea about used prices just by looking here on the forum, if you want new look at the authorized dealers on the internet unless you have a local store better than BB.

Ask questions until you know what you want and about prices you may find on the internet or local to make sure your getting a good deal.

Have fun.

Thanks for the replies fellas. I'm going to do some research. I found an outfit called Onecall.com has the HD theater 1000 for $519, cheaper than the HD 500. I may go with that but I"m going to dig around this site some more to learn. thanks

you wont be disappointed with the quality of any of klipsch's products except for a few of their computer speaker sets which i bought and was unhappy with the quality, great sound, just quality of the amp and connections were kinda junky. Any of klipsch's component speakers are great quality, you'll have great clear sound. Don't hesitate to ask any questions, this website is the best place for info on klipsch, there are many different view points and opinions on here so it'll help you make decisions in the long term. Good luck. make sure you buy brand new from authorized klipsch retailers too, you want to have thw warranty just in case.
