crossover for subs

does it make any difference if you set the crossover on the sub itself? I have my crossover set through my receiver and my subs crossover are dialed all the way up to 200. I was told this takes the subs internal crossover out of the equation and the receiver handles the crossover from the sub out jack. This true right? So is it pointless to crossover at the receiver and the sub itself?

Depends on the sub and how it's hooked up... Generally the "LFE" input on most subs will bypass the subs internal crossover. If the internal crossover can't be disabled, then it's best to turn the crossover to it's highest possible point, as you described.

Yes it's better to use the receivers crossover (which controls the whole system) and to take the subs crossover out of the picture. Some subs have settings to turn off their crossover and if the sub does not just turn the subs crossover all the way up.

Sounds like you did fine. [:)]
