Receiver for KG4's

Recommended Posts

I was recently snooping around a garage sale and picked up a pair of KG4's for $140. There are in good condition and were only owned by one owner who loves audio equipemtn. My main goal is to simply use the KG4's as a stereo music setup. My question is what receive to pair with them? Down the road I would eventually like to get a tube amp (~$500) along with a receiver. So what would be a great recommendation for a receiver with these speakers? My budget would be sub $500 for the receiver now and about the same for the tube amp down the road.

Chicago Area

I don't know if you are interested in my Sony but I am willing to ship if need be.

Take a look at this Marantz in your neck of the woods. It will make your KG4's rock.

The price "might" be a little high but the 2285B is one of the more desired vintage Marantz receivers.

This here is also a great deal all you need is a preamp or a receiver with preouts.

The man at a nearby garage sale. I had gone by on Friday after picking a friend up from work and had just bought some Bose 201s for some satelittes that my dad needed and told him that I would be back tomorrow for the KG4's considering I didn't have the $140 in cash on me. As I was walking away he said, "If anyone else asks the price, they're $1000". So naturally I laughed and told him thanks for holding on to them. I went back the next day and he tells me that he sold them to some older guy buying them for his nephew earlier that morning. Needless to say I was a little upset at the fact that the man didn't keep his word but its still understanding that he wants to get rid of them. Either way he said that he wasn't sure if I was gonna come back so he parted with him. I guess its a lesson learned to put some money down next time on such a steal.

A man's word is a man's word. He anticipated you not keeping your word. What can you do?

This might be worth investigating. More $$$ but a great deal if in good condition.

how do the KG2's fare? I have a Theater in the box set for movies and such that does a pretty decent job but I really want something to listen to music with. Here are teh KG2's, similar price.

I know these arn't Klipsch speakers but these seem to be very good speakers as well.

I think the KG2's sound great. With the passive on the back the bass response is really pronounced for a bookshelf speaker. Even though the KG2's are a "baby KG4", they slam just about as well. Offer the seller $125.00 and see if he bites.
