ybl8te
i know that you generally get a lower reading when you put your meter across the speaker - but one would think 3.3ohms on a 8ohms speaker to be higher ?? any thoughts on this guys
djk
An MBA allows you to alter the laws of physics by a factor of 10x or 0.1, as needed (it's part of their job description). If using an inexpensive home theater piece I would set the impedance selector to 'low' or '4 ohms' if it has such a feature. As you turn up the volume and 'thump' it a bit you will find the speaker sounds the best on the tap that closest matches its impedance, and plays the loudest too.Always try the 4 ohm tap. Leave it on whatever sounds the best.Hint: it sounds 'thin' when you turn it up if you have it hooked to too high of a tap.
ybl8te
thus is the major problem - no 4 ohm tap on my rig - and i do think this is why my amp and speakers do not mix. they are only 4-6ohms and played on a valve amp - you have problems.................slap these on a solid state, and be another difference
djk
This may be of use: http://www.edcorusa.com/products/288-em3100.aspx Hook the speakers to the 4R tap, and the amplifier to 8R or 16R (whatever sounds best). They make a smaller ones too, I would pick one rated at 2x your amplifier power (for headroom and better bass).
