samoore
Has anyone out ther tried to upgrade the caps/inductors in the Reference series crossovers? What were your results? If anyone has a schematic of the crossover for the RF-3 or just the specs of the caps and inductors please send them my way. Any thoughts on this undertaking? Thanks! USparc
This is something I would have done after changing the internal wires, but it is hard to figure out the components in the network. Changing the internal wires to FTP cat 5 cables is already a big succes. For HF: + ----++++----****----====------------ / / / # @ # @ horn # @ / / / - ------------------------------------ ++++: 10w 2Ohm J ****: 4,5 J 100V MER CH ###: ?? (solenoid) @@@: same as ### ??? ====: ? For LF + -----++++---------------------------- / / / # # W1 W2 # / / / - ------------------------------------- ++++ : solenoide with ferith core ###: 18.0J 100W MET CH That is what I could figure out when changing the internal wires. Who can (will) make this complete?? ------------------ ------------------------- Receiver: Pioneer VSX-909RDS DVD: Pioneer DV-525 Screen: Thomson 46" RetroProjection Front: RF-3 tFTP Rear: RF-3 tFTP Center: RC-3 tFTP
USparc
Yep, I knew this would happen. For HF you have to move the horn to the end and the ### after the **** and the @@@ after the ====. For LF move all vertical components after the ++++. Hope this is clear?? ------------------ ------------------------- Receiver: Pioneer VSX-909RDS DVD: Pioneer DV-525 Screen: Thomson 46" RetroProjection Front: RF-3 tFTP Rear: RF-3 tFTP Center: RC-3 tFTP
lne937s
I did it with All Solen- fast caps, solid wire air core inductor for the low end and litz wire for the high. Use the closest values available to the originals, use a meter. A little variation from the original will not cause a problem- crossover filter values are usually not exact. michael hurd
I had posted a thread with this question and didn't have many responses. I for one would encourage upgrading the parts and will be someting I will do when I get back home from this college. If you do this, just be careful how much heat you use when soldering the capacitors as they don't like an excess of heat especially if the leads are short. There are many good capacitor designs and inductor designs on the market. For mine, I will look into copper foil air core inductors, as well as metalized polypropylene capacitors for the upgrade.
